SRINAGAR, Oct 31: The Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) has ordered for change in the classwork timing in schools across Kashmir with effect from November 1.
As per the DSEK order, all the government and private (recognized) schools of Kashmir Division falling within Municipal limits of Srinagar city will observe class work timings from 10am to 3pm.
“The schools falling outside Municipal limits of Srinagar will observe timing from 10.30am to 3.30 pm from November 1 of 2022,” the order reads.
The directorate has warned the schools to strictly adhere to the new school timing.
“Any deviation in this regard shall be viewed seriously,” the order reads further.

Abdul Rashid Malik appointed as Senior Advocate General in Srinagar wing of J&K High Court
JAMMU, Oct 31: Jammu and Kashmir government on Monday appointed Abdul Rashid Malik, Ex-District and Sessions Judge, as Senior Additional Advocate General in the Srinagar wing of High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
“Sanction is hereby accorded to appointment of Mr Abdul Rashid Malik, Ex-District and Sessions Judge as Senior Additional Advocate General in the Srinagar wing of High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh,” read a government order.
“The above said appointment shall be:-
i. governed by the terms and conditions as envisaged in Government Order No. 1906-LD(A)) of 2015 dated 22- 06-2015, Government Order No 2327-LD(A) of 2017 dated 16-06-2017, Government Order No 2328-LD(A) of 2017 dated 16-06-2017 and Government Order No 3378-LD(A) of 2019 dated 16-09-2019 and other orders in this behalf, i. for a period of one year which shall be extended subject to satisfactory performance of the Advocate; and
ii. shall be subject to orders passed in WP(C) PIL No 6 of 2021, titled Sushil Chandel Vs Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and others.”
“In terms of Administrative Council Decision No. 35/4/2021 dated 10-03-2021 read with Government Order No. 1678-JK(LD) of 2021 dated 24-03-2021, the Law Officer shall submit the information of cases on daily basis through Director Litigation Kashmir and fortnightly to the Department of Law Justice and P.A. on a devised proforma GC-I and GC-II and shall also furnish weekly/Department wise advance list of cases on each Friday or Saturday as the case may be on a devised proforma GC-IlI.”
T20 World Cup: India’s Dinesh Karthik suffers back injury, doubtful for Bangladesh clash
Indian wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik hurt his back during the team’s T20 World Cup encounter against South Africa on Sunday (October 30). Karthik is now doubtful to start against Bangladesh in Adelaide.
Karthik was unable to handle the pace, bounce and swing of the South African bowlers in a crucial Super 12 match of Group 2 as he managed only six off 15 balls in a 52-run stand. So far in the tournament, Karthik has struggled to score runs with the bat.During the match against South Africa, Karthik was observed writhing in agony at the conclusion of the 15th over while clutching his back and hunched over on his knees.

Enemies Trying to Break India’s Unity, We Need to Stand Firm Against Such Attempts: PM Modi
GUJARAT, Oct 31: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said that enemies were trying to break India’s unity and the country should stand firm against any such attempts. After paying tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at Kevadia in Gujarat on his birth anniversary, PM Modi remembered those who died in Sunday’s Morbi bridge collapse incident and got emotional.
“I am in Kevadia, but my heart goes out to those who died in the Morbi Bridge collapse tragedy,” Mr. Modi said. At least 132 people died after the suspension bridge collapsed in Gujarat’s Morbi city on Sunday evening. Patel’s birth anniversary is observed as the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas or National Unity Day.
PM Modi said for India, its unity has never been a necessity, but has been its uniqueness. “This unity of our country has been eyesore for our enemies. Not just today, but from thousands of years and even during the period of our slavery, all foreign attackers did whatever they wanted to do to break this unity,” PM said.
“The poison that was spread in that long period, the country is facing problems due to it today also. We saw the country’s partition and enemies taking benefit of it,” Mr. Modi said.
Those forces are still prevalent, they want to make people of the country fight in the name of caste, region, language, he said, adding that history is also presented in such a way that people cannot stand with each other.
“We should note that these forces are not just our known enemies from outside, but many a times it (the enemy) enters into us in the form of slave mentality also,” the PM said. “We have to answer them as the son of this country, we have to remain one,” Mr. Modi said. (Agencies)
2 LeT Militant Associates Arrested in Shopian, Arms and Ammunition Recovered: Police
SRINAGAR, Oct 31: Police on Monday claimed to have arrested two militant associates affliated with Lashkar-i-Toiba oufit in Kellar area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district.
A senior police officer told that on a specific input a joint team of Police, army and CRPF during searches arrested two LeT militant associates.
They have been identified as Gowhar Manzoor Bhat and Abid Hussain Nanda both resident of Drabgam Pulwama. From their possession one pistol, a grenade, 10 rounds and Rs 60000 have been recovered, the officer said.
An FIR has been registered in Police station Kellar in this regard and investigation have been takenup, the officer added. (Agencies)
Pakistani female journalist crushed by former PM Imran Khan’s truck during coverage
A female Pakistani journalist covering former prime minister Imran Khan’s long march died on Sunday after being crushed under his container. Subsequently, the incident forced him to halt the march for the day. The deceased has been identified as Channel Five reporter Sadaf Naeem.
According to Channel Five, the reporter was run over by Khan’s container after she fell from it near Sadhoke. After the tragic incident, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman called off activities for the day.
“We are ending today’s march due to an accident. We have decided to stop here,” Khan said. Khan also sent his condolences to the family of the deceased and said that he would pray for the departed soul.
The long march would start from Kamoke on its fourth day on Monday. Earlier, it was planned to reach Gujranwala by the end of its third day. She was trying to interview Khan for her TV channel, Dunya TV reported.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, while reacting to the death of the journalist, said that he was “deeply saddened” by the death of the reporter.
He further wrote in his tweet that Sadaf Naeem was a “dynamic and hardworking” reporter, adding that he prays for the forgiveness of the deceased and patience for the family. Information Minister Maryyium Aurangzeb expressed shock over Sadaf’s death and questioned how the reporter was run over by the container-carrying truck used by Khan.
“I personally know her. She was a hard-working journalist and was killed while trying to interview Imran Khan which is shocking,? she said.
Punjab Chief Minister Pervez Elahi lauded the deceased and extended his condolences to her family and announced financial assistance worth Rs 25 lakh for her family. “The Punjab government will take full care of the family,” he tweeted.
Meanwhile, the Punjab police said that a police officer, posted in Muridke for the march, died due to a heart attack. According to a statement issued by the Sheikhpura police spokesperson, Constable Liaquat Ali was on duty as a driver at the PTI march when he died due to the heart attack. He is survived by his wife, three sons and a daughter.
India records 1,326 new Covid-19 cases, active tally declines to 17,912
NEW DELHI, Oct 31: With 1,326 people testing positive for coronavirus infection in a day, India’s tally of COVID-19 cases rose to 4,46,53,592, while the active cases declined to 17,912, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Monday.
The death toll climbed to 5,29,024 with eight fatalities which includes five deaths reconciled by Kerala, the data updated at 8 am stated.
The active cases comprise 0.04 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate increased to 98.78 per cent, the ministry said.
A decrease of 405 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.
The daily positivity rate was recorded at 1.59 per cent while the weekly positivity rate was recorded at 1.08 per cent, according to the ministry.
The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to
4,41,06,656, while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.18 per cent.
According to the ministry, 219.63 crore doses of Covid vaccine have been administered in the country so far under the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive.
India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 2020, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16. It went past 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20 and surpassed the one-crore mark on December 19.
The country crossed the grim milestone of two crore on May 4 and three crore on June 23 last year. It crossed the four-crore mark on January 25 this year.
Three deaths were reported in a span of 24 hours with one each from Maharashtra, Mizoram and Uttar Pradesh. (Agencies)
25,000 officers making field visits across J&K: LG
Budgam: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha Sunday said that 25,000 officers were making field visits across J&K and called upon the officers to bridge the gap between public expectations and the government’s delivery mechanism.
An official spokesman in a statement issued here said that addressing an event in connection with the ongoing Back to Village IV (B2V4) programme at Sheikhpura area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district, the LG said that B2V was the government’s endeavour to realise the vision of Gram Swaraj and facilitate communication, cooperation, and coordination between the government and the people.
He said that more than 25,000 officers were making field visits across J&K to receive feedback from the public on various schemes being implemented by the government.
The LG said that the visiting officers would ensure 100 percent saturation of welfare schemes and achieve the targets of self-employment and skill development.
He said that the progress and prosperity of the common man, doorstep delivery of government services, and establishing of peace were the priorities of the government.
The LG said that for decades, corruption flourished in service delivery and widened the gap between people’s expectations and implementation.
“It is our utmost duty, our ultimate responsibility to bridge the gap between public expectations and government delivery mechanism. We are determined to bring transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness in the governance system to meet the people’s aspirations,” he said.
The LG said that with deliverables reaching the doorsteps of the people, every officer, common citizen, and public representative who were the driving forces of good governance must turn this B2V initiative into an opportunity for economic development and social change of rural J&K.
“This spirit of B2V should be nurtured and further strengthened in our culture to make J&K a living example of equal rights and equal opportunities,” he said.
The LG said that the action-oriented deliverables of B2V4 with the realistic assessment of the ground realities were aimed at connecting youth with self-employment and skill development programmes, strengthening the foundation of Panchayati Raj institutions, making every panchayat drug-free and ensuring that the last man in the queue reaps the benefit of government schemes.
He said that the J&K government had brought a new revolution in youth empowerment in the last two years.
“From job seekers, today our youth have become job providers,” the LG said.
He assured support and financial assistance for every youth who aspires to be an entrepreneur and wants to start his or her business enterprise.
“Under the ongoing B2V programme, we have set a target to identify 15 youth from every panchayat for self-employment assistance and 20 youth from every panchayat for skill training,” the LG said. He urged the public representatives to play an important role in making the youth a partner in the development process, besides building a harmonised society.
“Peace is the only way to usher into a bright and prosperous future. Society must identify and isolate the divisive forces and their sympathisers who, on behalf of the neighboring country are trying to create a sense of fear by targeting innocent civilians,” the LG said.
He asked the visiting officers to take feedback from the people regarding the functioning of Village Level Workers and Patwari offices.
The LG also underlined the need to make collective efforts towards achieving Nasha Mukt and Swachh Panchayats.
He appealed to the youth to not get addicted to online gaming and further called for spreading awareness against online gambling.
Rains likely in plains, snowfall in upper reaches from Monday night: MeT
Srinagar: While most places in Kashmir recorded below-normal minimum temperatures on Sunday, Meteorological Department officials here said that a fresh Western Disturbance (WD) was likely to affect J&K from Monday night that would result in rains in plains and snowfall in the upper reaches.
“A fresh Western Disturbance is likely to affect J&K and adjoining regions from the night of October 31. Under the influence of this system, light to moderate rain in plains and light snowfall over middle and higher reaches of J&K is most likely during October 31 night to November 1 late afternoon,” MeT Director Sonam Lotus said here. “Thereafter cloudy weather is expected during November 1 evening to November 4 afternoon with the possibility of light rain and snow at isolated places.” Lotus said that two more back-to-back WDs were likely to affect J&K and adjoining areas from November 4 afternoon to November 8 afternoon.
“Under the influence of these systems, light to moderate rain and snow in plains and light to moderate snowfall over middle and higher reaches of J&K is most likely during this period,” he said adding that there would be a drastic fall in day temperatures and days would be colder.
Lotus said that the snowfall and low temperatures might lead to temporary disruption of surface transportation, mainly over Zojila Pass, Mughal Road, and Sadna Top.
He urged the farmers to harvest their agricultural produce including fruits that are prone to damage in snowfall and low temperatures.
“Carry necessary pruning of trees and drain out excess water from the orchards,” Lotus said.
Gujarat bridge collapse: Death toll rises to 141
Morbi (Gujarat), October 31: The death toll in the Morbi hanging bridge collapse incident increased to 141, Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi said on Monday.
The Gujarat Home Minister further informed that a criminal case has been registered in connection with the incident.
“An investigation has begun today under the leadership of Range IGP,” Sanghavi said. Everyone worked all through the night. The Navy, NDRF (National Disaster Relief Force), Air Force and Army arrived at the spot quickly. More than 200 persons have worked the entire night for search and rescue operations,” Sanghavi said.
Teams including Army, Navy, Air Force, NDRF, and Fire Brigade conducted a search operation throughout the night to find the Garkaw victims in Macchu river after the bridge collapsed, as per officials.
After the incident, Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel, Minister of State for Home Affairs Harshbhai Sanghvi, Minister Brijeshbhai Merja, and Minister of State Shri Arvindbhai Raiyani reached the incident spot at midnight and personally observed the rescue operation and gave directions.
According to the details from the district administration, after the mishap, the system was immediately activated and rescue operations started with the help of locals.
Besides this, teams from other places also started arriving at the spot. Around 40 doctors from various health centres, Rajkot PDU Hospital and Surendranagar Civil Hospital started emergency treatment of the injured at the Morbi Civil Hospital.
After the collapse of the bridge, the Rajkot Municipal Corporation boat and rescue materials including life jackets reached Morbi and started the rescue operation.
Emergency ambulances from Rajkot, Jamnagar, Junagadh Metropolitan Municipality and Morbi Municipality were running throughout the night to bring the injured to the hospital immediately. Several private ambulances were also involved in the rescue operation. Army team from Surendranagar joined with its three ambulances and equipment, informed the officials. (AGENCIES)
