On the occasion several political activists of BJP and Congress quit their respective parties and joined AAP expressing their faith and confidence in the policies and programmes of the party. Prominent among those who Joined AAP comprised Sarpanchs/Ex-Sarpanchs and other notables including Haji Noor Mohd, Madan Lal, Aijaz Hussain, Kailash Chander, Mulkh Raj, Shaid Hussain, Pardeep Singh, Krishan Chand, Balbir Chand, Shamsher Singh, Mohd Ishaq, Ramesh Chander, Govind Singh besides others. They were welcomed in Party fold by District President South Udhampur Col. Som Raj Sharma and District President North Udhampur Mr. Dharam Singh.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Harsh Dev Singh said that AAP had emerged on the political landscape of the country as the lone voice of the poor, downtrodden and other marginalized sections of society. He said that AAP alone could fulfil the aspirations of the public at large and steer the erstwhile state out of the morass of poverty, underdevelopment, corruption and communalism.

He said that having experimented with various traditional parties, both national and regional, the people of J&K were a disappointed lot desperately seeking a change in the political structure of the erstwhile state. Their disenchantment with such parties was conspicuously manifesting itself in ever increasing number of political activists, professionals, women and youth joining AAP which had emerged as the only a ray of hope in the UT. The revolutionary moves of AAP in Delhi and Punjab had once again revived the people’s faith in the political system with common masses awaiting the much needed change in J&K as well.

“Not only had the AAP revolutionized the Education and Health sector in Delhi but had also set an example of moral propriety of highest order by sacking one of its own ministers in Punjab. It’s policy of free power and drinking water had earned it massive support not only in the states ruled by it but also across the nation. The party believed in upliftment of the deprived classes and common masses who had been disregarded and neglected by successive govts in the past. The meteoric rise of the party was the outcome of the pro-people policies pursued by it and its focussed attention on mitigating the sufferings of the common man”, asserted Mr. Singh.

He expressed the hope that peoples’ growing support for AAP would surely catapult it as the largest party of J&K in the coming times.

SC says two-finger test must not be conducted, those doing it will be held guilty of misconduct

0

Expressing strong displeasure over the two-finger test still being conducted on victims of sexual assault, the Supreme Court Monday directed that those who conduct the test will be held guilty of misconduct.

Restoring the conviction of an accused in a rape case, a bench of Justices D Y Chandrachud and Hima Kohli said the test has “no scientific basis” and “only re-victimises and re-traumatises women” and it “must not be conducted”.

“This court has time and again deprecated the use of two finger test in cases alleging rape and sexual assault…The test is based on an incorrect assumption that a sexually active woman cannot be raped. Nothing can be further from the truth,” said the apex court in its judgement which came on an appeal against a high court order in the case.

The Supreme Court said, “The probative value of a woman’s testimony does not depend on her sexual history. It is patriarchal and sexist to suggest that a woman cannot be believed when she states that she was raped merely because she is sexually active”.

The bench asked the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to ensure that survivors of rape or sexual assault are not put through the test. It also directed that the ministry’s guidelines against the test be circulated widely to create awareness.
