Thar Collision Injures Two at Baghat Chowk, Srinagar

0

Two individuals sustained injuries in a road accident on Friday morning at Baghat Chowk in the Srinagar district of Jammu and Kashmir. The incident occurred when a speedy Thar vehicle collided with a bus from the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).

The accident took place around 9:30 AM, causing significant disruption in the area. Eyewitnesses reported that the impact was severe, leading to immediate concern among local residents.

Police and first responders quickly arrived at the scene, providing urgent medical care to the injured passengers in the Thar. Reports indicate that both individuals suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were promptly transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

Authorities have confirmed that they are conducting an investigation into the incident. An official stated, “We have registered a case and will examine all aspects of the accident. Our primary goal is to ensure the well-being of those injured and prevent such incidents in the future.”

The road at Baghat Chowk is known for its heavy traffic, and local officials emphasized the need for heightened road safety measures in the area. Accidents involving speeding vehicles, like the Thar in this case, raise serious safety concerns, prompting calls for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations.

Moreover, the SSB, tasked with border security, reiterated its commitment to safety as they operate within civilian spaces. A spokesperson from the SSB commented, “We encourage our drivers to adhere strictly to speed limits and promote safety among all our personnel.”

Local residents expressed concerns about the increased frequency of road accidents in the area, urging authorities to implement more comprehensive traffic management strategies. “It’s alarming to see accidents becoming a part of our daily lives. We need proper traffic controls and awareness campaigns,” remarked one resident.

The incident at Baghat Chowk serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety and vigilance while driving. Both the police and local authorities are expected to announce measures aimed at improving safety on this busy stretch of road in Srinagar.

Trump Meets Pakistan PM Sharif, Field Marshal Munir at White House

0

On September 26, US President Donald Trump welcomed Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir to the White House to enhance bilateral ties between the two nations. This meeting marked the first formal interaction between Trump and Sharif, occurring six years after former prime minister Imran Khan last met Trump in July 2019.

During a press interaction, Trump praised the Pakistani leaders, stating, “In fact, we have a great leader coming, the prime minister of Pakistan coming, and the field marshal (of) Pakistan. Field marshal is a very great guy and so is the prime minister, both.”

The meeting took place in the Oval Office, with Vice President J D Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio in attendance. According to a statement from the Pakistan Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the meeting was productive and held in a “pleasant atmosphere.”

The scheduled time for the meeting was 4:30 pm local time but was delayed by 30 minutes due to Trump’s prior engagements. It lasted approximately one hour and 20 minutes, during which both leaders shared various views and strategies. Photos taken post-meeting showed a smiling Trump with his trademark thumbs-up, alongside Sharif and Munir.

Sharif had previously met Trump in New York during the UN General Assembly session. This meeting was part of a broader multilateral session involving leaders from multiple nations, including Saudi Arabia and Indonesia. Trump’s administration viewed this as an opportunity to revive and strengthen ties with Pakistan.

According to Radio Pakistan, the discussions aimed to address mutual interests and analyze regional and global situations impacting both countries. Sharif’s arrival at the White House at 4:52 pm brought him in the company of senior US officials, and his motorcade exited around 6:18 pm.

In a post-meeting press conference, Trump reiterated his belief in having a significant impact on global peace. He stated, “I have stopped seven wars,” a claim he also made in front of world leaders at UNGA.

Pakistan has nominated Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, citing his leadership during the recent India-Pakistan crisis. Since announcing a ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan via social media, Trump has frequently claimed credit for mediating the tensions. However, Indian officials have stressed that the understanding stemmed from direct communications between their military operations heads.

Sharif’s engagement with Trump marked the first White House visit by a Pakistani prime minister since Imran Khan in 2019, whereas Nawaz Sharif, Sharif’s brother, visited in 2015. Historically, Pakistan and the US shared a mutual alliance during the Cold War, primarily united against the USSR in Afghanistan and later in combating militancy.

However, relationships soured over differing policies towards the Afghan Taliban, exacerbated by accusations of Pakistan’s ties to militant groups. The situation reached a tipping point following the US mission that resulted in Osama bin Laden’s death in Pakistan in 2011.

Recent developments include a new trade agreement, establishing a 19% tariff on Pakistani imports. This agreement shows potential for growth as US goods and services trade with Pakistan reached an estimated USD 10.1 billion in 2024, demonstrating a 6.3% increase from 2023.

The US’ total goods trade with Pakistan also showed significant figures, representing about USD 7.2 billion in 2024. Exports from the US to Pakistan amounted to USD 2.1 billion, growing by 3.3% compared to 2023. Additionally, imports from Pakistan totalled USD 5.1 billion, which marked a 4.8% increase over the previous year. Notably, the US goods trade deficit with Pakistan rose to USD 3 billion, an increase of 5.9% from the prior year.

As US-Pakistan ties look to evolve, these initial dialogues hold promise for future engagements, economic collaborations, and strategic partnerships.

Bhalla Critiques BJP for Neglect of Bagh-e-Bhau Pilgrim-Tourist Circuit

0

JKPCC Working President Raman Bhalla, along with former ministers Yogesh Sawhney and Yash Pal Kundal, visited the Bagh-e-Bhau pilgrim tourism circuit on September 25, expressing deep concern over its deteriorating condition.

The network of sites from Balidaan Stambh to Har ki Poudi, including the Harbal garden and Bahu Fort temple, has suffered significant neglect, the leaders asserted. They placed the blame squarely on the BJP-led government, which they claim has failed to maintain this vital tourist project for over a decade.

Bhalla articulated his deep concern regarding the dismal state of the entire circuit, which has been neglected since Congress completed its development before 2014. The integrity of the roads linking Balidaan Stambh with Har ki Poudi, Harbal Garden, and Shahbad Colony is now in question, severely impacting both tourists and local residents.

“The BJP has completely disregarded this pilgrim-tourist circuit in the past eleven years, leading to extensive damage, particularly after recent rains and floods,” Bhalla emphasized, demanding immediate repairs and restorations.

The officials at the helm have failed to fulfill their responsibilities toward the pilgrims and tourists, which has resulted in a significant decline in the tourist experience in Jammu city. Bhalla stated that the current government has neglected ongoing maintenance, repairs, and necessary upgrades.

Senior Congress leaders criticized the BJP for making false promises about beautifying Jammu and boosting tourism. They lamented the shattered trust, asserting that BJP’s claims of development and progress were unraveled in the wake of recent weather-related crises.

“Jammu has suffered immensely on every front under the BJP,” they said, calling the state of affairs an “utter failure” on the part of the ruling party. The leaders also emphasized that man-made disasters have compounded the challenges faced by the local populace, further exacerbating the overall tourism experience.

Among those accompanying Bhalla during this critical visit were senior Congress members Diwan Chand, Latish Sharma, Mangat Ram, Dinesh Dadwal, Sahil Shavotra, Bittu Shavotra, Kundan Dalotra, Arun Dadwal, Sanjeev Kattal, and others. Each leader voiced their frustration over the lack of attention to this vital tourist destination.

Bhalla concluded his statement by reiterating the urgent need for the government to take responsibility and rectify the issues encumbering the beloved tourist circuit. The neglect of such vital projects not only affects tourism but also the cultural and spiritual identity of Jammu.

J&K to Lead India’s Path to Destination 2047: Dr. Jitendra

0

Union Minister of State Dr. Jitendra Singh announced that Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) will be a key player in India’s journey toward ‘Destination 2047.’ Speaking at the launch of the ATL Sarthi and Frontier Region Programme of Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) at the University of Kashmir on October 18, 2023, he emphasized the region’s vast potential and emerging resources.

This event marks a significant step as India aims to elevate its economy from the current fourth to the third position globally. Dr. Singh stated that J&K’s contribution will be instrumental due to its unexplored resources and geographic advantages. He mentioned that since Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government took charge in 2014, regions like J&K have started to receive greater attention, especially in sectors like tourism, floriculture, and innovation.

Dr. Jitendra Singh expressed optimism about J&K becoming a vital contributor to India’s growth story, particularly in innovation over the next two decades. During the event, he highlighted the importance of the launch of ATL Sarthi, which signifies a commitment to integrating J&K into India’s broader economic framework.

The Minister elaborated on the plans for J&K, announcing the establishment of 500 new Atal Tinkering Labs (ATLs) across the Union Territory, making up the largest share of 2,500 labs sanctioned for frontier regions with a total investment of ₹100 crores. These labs will provide school students with exposure to advanced tools in areas such as robotics, 3D printing, and artificial intelligence, aiming to foster early innovation.

Dr. Singh emphasized that India’s economic momentum has been driven by technology-based sectors, including space and biotechnology, which will continue to contribute significantly to value addition in the coming years. For instance, he noted that India’s space economy has skyrocketed from negligible figures to an impressive $8 billion, and predictions suggest it could reach between $40-45 billion over the next decade. Currently, over 400 startups are thriving in this sector.

Highlighting the role of public-private partnerships, the Minister said, “Sustaining growth requires the involvement of private players. Initiatives like InSpace in space research and BIRAC in biotechnology demonstrate how structured collaboration can yield positive results.”

Dr. Singh also pointed out J&K’s burgeoning involvement in initiatives like the Aroma Mission, which has spawned around 3,500 lavender startups, offering significant employment opportunities and attracting young entrepreneurs back from corporate careers. This shift is reshaping local economies and providing alternatives to traditional government jobs.

In discussing the innovation landscape, Dr. Singh noted that 50 students from J&K ranked among the top 1,000 participants in the School Innovation Marathon, reflecting a growing pool of talent in the region. He encouraged parents and students to embrace entrepreneurship, dispelling the myth that successful startups can only emerge from metropolitan areas; he stated that nearly half of India’s startups originate from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.

He concluded with a vision for the future, stating, “As we look towards India@2047, the students in these tinkering labs will be in their prime working years. They will be the torchbearers of a developed India, positioning J&K at the forefront of the national journey.”

The event also saw participation from key figures including Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, and other prominent education officials, emphasizing the collaborative effort to foster innovation in J&K.

Government to Provide 5-Marla Land to Flood-Affected Families

0

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced today that the Jammu and Kashmir government will allocate five marlas of land to each flood-affected family who has lost their homes and land due to devastating floods and landslides this year.

The announcement came during an interaction with residents of Duggain and Billawar, where the impact of the recent flooding has left families without shelter or means for recovery. Accompanied by MLA Bani, Dr. Rameshwar Singh, Abdulaziz conducted an aerial survey of affected areas in the district.

“The year 2025 has brought immense devastation to Jammu and Kashmir. From dry spells in spring to relentless rains and landslides later, the damage across the region has been unprecedented,” Omar Abdullah stated. He emphasized the urgency of relief and rehabilitation, directing local administration to ensure prompt assistance.

The Chief Minister revealed that torrential rains have inflicted severe damage, including the destruction of over 350 bridges and around 2,000 km of roads, alongside significant loss of agricultural land and standing crops. He highlighted that both government and private buildings suffered extensive damage. “Given this scale of destruction, we appeal for a comprehensive relief package from the Central Government,” he remarked, seeking support amid the recovery processes.

In his commitment to assess the situation, Omar Abdullah visited remote regions like Kathua to understand the ground realities. His aerial surveys covered critical entry points into Jammu and Kashmir, including Hiranagar and Lakhanpur, providing him with firsthand insights into the devastation.

After his inspections, he convened a meeting with district officials, including Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Rajesh Sharma, and senior civil and police officers. He instructed district officials to conduct thorough inspections of all flood-affected areas and submit detailed reports on the damages and required support.

During the engagement, Dr. Rameshwar Singh brought attention to the extensive damages in the Bani region, caused primarily by landslides following heavy rains. He stated that villages such as Moar, Najote, and Kanthal-Majra have witnessed complete loss of land and property, affecting nearly 100 families. Singh requested the immediate allotment of five marlas of land for these families and raised additional concerns such as damages to the Jalana Bridge, delays in infrastructure projects, and requested amnesty from loans and utility bills for the affected.

In response to these representations, CM Omar Abdullah assured the gathered representatives that the government would review these demands earnestly. He emphasized the state’s priority on ensuring that all necessary measures are taken to support those suffering from the floods.

The Chief Minister’s proactive approach and promise of five marlas of land allocation embodies an essential step towards recovery. As Jammu and Kashmir faces ongoing challenges from natural calamities, government support will be pivotal in rebuilding the lives of countless families affected by this year’s unprecedented floods.

Farooq Abdullah Urges Government to Learn from Leh Violence

0

Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) President Farooq Abdullah has called on the BJP-led Central government to heed lessons from the recent violence in Leh, Ladakh. The unrest erupted due to long-standing demands for statehood and inclusion in the Sixth Schedule, reflecting deep-seated local frustrations.

During a press conference held on Thursday, Abdullah attributed the violent protests to unfulfilled promises made to the people of Jammu and Kashmir over the years. He highlighted that these demands resonate with the citizens’ aspirations for greater autonomy and rights.

Abdullah emphasized that the unrest stems from local grievances rather than external influences. He noted the initiatives of social activist Sonam Wangchuk, who organized peaceful protests, including a hunger strike and a barefoot march from Leh to Delhi, emphasizing non-violence as a way to voice local concerns.

The JKNC chief also issued a stark warning about the potential risks facing border areas like Ladakh, particularly in light of China’s destabilizing actions in the region. He urged the Central government to engage in earnest dialogue with the people of Ladakh, aiming to address their needs and aspirations effectively.

In the wake of the violence, four people lost their lives, and over 80 individuals sustained injuries, including police personnel. Protesters expressed their discontent by setting fire to the BJP office, police vehicles, and various buildings. In response, law enforcement deployed tear gas and opened fire to control the situation.

Abdullah’s remarks echo a growing concern that the region’s stability relies heavily on the government’s ability to respond to the legitimate demands of its citizens. He concluded that to maintain peace and prevent further escalation, the government must prioritize dialogue and address the core issues that lead to unrest.

Jammu to Srinagar Vande Bharat Train Extension Announced

0

The Railways Department has confirmed plans to extend the Vande Bharat Express from Jammu to Srinagar, enhancing connectivity for travelers in the region. This semi-high-speed train will significantly benefit commuters, pilgrims, and tourists alike.

Divisional Railway Manager Jammu, Vivek Kumar, announced that preparations are underway to implement this expansion. He acknowledged that the plan faced delays due to extensive damage to railway tracks from recent floods and heavy rains.

“We are working on it. The delay occurred because of massive damage to tracks due to floods and heavy rains,” Kumar stated. “But sooner or later, this service will be available to the people of Jammu.” He emphasized that restoration work is progressing rapidly, and officials will launch the service once they receive safety clearances.

The introduction of the Katra–Srinagar Vande Bharat service earlier this year dramatically decreased travel time between the scenic Valley and the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine base camp. With this new extension to Jammu, the Railways aims to further enhance regional connectivity.

Upon becoming operational, the Jammu–Srinagar Vande Bharat Express is expected to operate daily. This service will provide improved travel comfort and reduced journey times compared to existing rail and road options.

The Vande Bharat train has already proven to be a pivotal component in the modernization efforts of Indian Railways, positioning it as a hassle-free transport solution in the Union Territory.

Jammu and Kashmir Forms Committee for Recruitment Rules System

0

The Jammu and Kashmir government has constituted a high-level committee on Thursday to develop a Single Window System aimed at streamlining the processing of Recruitment Rules. This initiative seeks to enhance efficiency in handling recruitment norms across various departments.

An official order from the General Administration Department (GAD-JK) outlines the formation of this committee, appointing the Principal Secretary of the Public Works (R&B) Department as its Chairman. The committee comprises several key officials, including the Commissioner/Secretary of the General Administration Department, the Secretary of the School Education Department, the Secretary of the Information Technology Department, and the Secretary of the Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.

Additionally, members from the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission and the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board, all holding ranks no lower than Additional Secretaries, will also be part of the committee. The Chairman retains the authority to invite other members as deemed necessary.

The committee’s primary task involves finalizing the digitization of Recruitment Rules, aligning its processes with the efficient “Delhi Model”. This model aims to expedite the recruitment process through systematic integration. The committee will also collaborate with BISAG-N, designated as the digital partner, to ensure a seamless integration of technology.

This initiative reflects the Jammu and Kashmir government’s commitment to improving operational efficiency in public recruitment. By establishing a Single Window System, officials hope to simplify bureaucratic hurdles and accelerate the recruitment process for various government positions.

The ARI & Trainings Department will provide necessary support to the committee, ensuring that its objectives align with the broader goals of enhancing government services and accountability.

As recruitment processes often face scrutiny regarding their transparency and efficiency, this committee’s formation signals a proactive approach by the Jammu and Kashmir government. By adopting digital solutions, the aim is to foster a more responsive and transparent system that meets the needs of job seekers in the region.

Pakistani Intruder Arrested Along International Border in Jammu

0

A Pakistani intruder faced arrest along the International Border in the R S Pura sector on Thursday, officials confirmed. This incident marks the second Pakistani national apprehended by the Border Security Force (BSF) in this area within September.

The BSF personnel, remaining vigilant, detected the movement of an individual attempting to cross into Indian territory from Pakistan. They promptly responded, overpowering the intruder as soon as he crossed the border.

No incriminating items were discovered on the arrested individual, who is currently under interrogation by combined teams from various security agencies. This comprehensive investigation aims to ascertain the intentions behind the intrusion and gather intelligence about potential network links.

Earlier this month, on September 8, another Pakistani intruder was detained in the same R S Pura sector, enhancing concerns over border security. The troops engaged in the earlier incident fired warning shots after challenging Siraj Khan, a resident of Sargodha in Punjab, Pakistan, who tried to breach the border fence.

During the September incident, BSF personnel recovered several Pakistani currency notes from Khan, highlighting the persistent infiltration issue along the Indo-Pak border. As tensions continue to simmer, this latest arrest underscores the concerted efforts of the BSF to maintain national security.

Authorities emphasize the importance of heightened surveillance and proactive measures to deter such incursions. Highlighting their commitment, a BSF spokesperson stated, “We remain steadfast in our mission to safeguard our borders and protect the integrity of our nation against such infiltration attempts.” These apprehensions reflect ongoing challenges faced by security forces amid escalating border tensions.

With the region’s security dynamics in constant flux, the BSF’s operational readiness remains critical. The frequent arrests of Pakistani nationals attempting to infiltrate India reinforce the ongoing need for vigilance. Stakeholders are increasingly focused on enhancing intelligence-sharing protocols and coordination among various defense agencies to counteract these challenges effectively.
