Srinagar, Nov 24: Cold conditions prevailed in Jammu and Kashmir with all the meteorological stations in the Valley recording sub-zero temperatures.

Quoting a MeT department official, news agency GNS reported that Srinagar recorded a low of minus 0.8°C, the same as on the previous night. The temperature was 0.9°C below normal during this time of the year for the summer capital so far, he said.

Qazigund recorded a low of minus 2.0°C against minus 1.6°C on the previous night. The temperature was 2.1°C below normal for the gateway town of Kashmir, he said.

In Pahalgam, the mercury settled at minus 4.4°C against minus 4.8°C on the previous night and it was 2.0°C below normal for the south Kashmir resort, he said.

Kokernag recorded a low of minus 1.0°C against 0.3°C on the previous night and it was 1.6°C below normal for the place, he said.

Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 2.4°C against minus 3.8°C on the previous night. It was 0.3°C below normal for the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, the official said.

In Kupwara town, the mercury settled at minus 2.4°C against minus 2.9°C on the previous night, the official said. It was 1.9°C below normal for the north Kashmir place, he said.

Jammu recorded a low of 9.1°C against 9.0°C on the previous night. It was 2.4°C below normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said. Banihal recorded a low of 10.0.°C (7.6°C above normal), Batote 7.3°C (2.5°C above normal), Katra 9.6°C (0.1°C below normal) and Bhadarwah 3.0°C (0.9°C above normal)

In Ladakh, Kargil recorded a low of minus 10.2°C, Leh minus 9.0°C and mercury in Drass, the world’s second coldest place after Siberia, settled at minus 12.0°C, the official said.

The MeT department has predicted mainly dry weather for next 24 in J&K and said that no large change was expected till the end of this month.

SRINAGAR, Nov 24: State Investigation Agency Kashmir on Thursday carried multiple raids across J&K in connection with militant funding case.
Official sources said that SIA conducted raids at Bandipora, Kupwara, Anantnag, Srinagar and Kishtwar.
Till this report was being filed there was no report of any arrest or recovery so far from these ongoing raids. (Agencies)

Secretary, Planning Development and Monitoring Department (PD & MD) Dr Raghav Langer on Wednesday kick started wheat sowing across the fence at the International Border (IB) with Pakistan in Chack Changa, Hiranagar of Kathua district.

The Secretary, PD & MD was accompanied by DIG, BSF, Hari Om; DC Kathua Rahul Pandey; DDC Member Marheen Karan Kumar Attri, SDM Rakesh Kumar and Chief Agriculture Officer Sanjeev Rai.

Dr Langer said the UT Administration along with the BSF authorities is actively pursuing the potential of cultivation in the border belt so that farming communities get maximum benefit from the chunk of land, which was lying unutilized hitherto.

Dr Langer suggested adoption of mechanized ways of farming by establishing machinery banks under BADP, SSY schemes so as to empower local farming communities in reaping rich dividends from their produce.

The Chief Agriculture Officer Kathua informed that the target for sowing wheat crop is enhanced to 200 acres from the current Rabi season which, he said, will be achieved with the handholding efforts of all stakeholders, government agencies and departments.

Dr Raghav Langer also inspected various developmental works, rural assets of border panchayats and interacted with progressive farmers at Haripur.

Later, Dr Langer presided over the proceedings of block Diwas at RC Farms Marheen wherein he threw light on the object of public outreach initiative of the government to listen to the grievances at doorsteps of the people.

Referring to the avenues of opportunities in border areas, Dr Raghav Langer said youth should aim at becoming a job creator rather than job seeker. He said youth should explore opportunities in entrepreneurship by availing self-employment opportunities extended by the government.

After listening to the issues of the locals, the DC redressed many grievances on the spot and passed a slew of directions to the concerned officers for early redressal of the projected issues. He assured the public that all their genuine grievances shall be redressed in a time bound manner.

Jammu: To mark the “Constitution Day” celebrations, “preamble reading ceremonies” will be held across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir in all government offices, autonomous bodies, PSUs, local self government institutions, schools and colleges.

The Constitution Day, also known as “Samvidhan Divas” is celebrated every year on November 26 to commemorate adoption of the Constitution of India. On November 26, 1949, the Constituent Assembly of India adopted the Constitution of India, which came into effect from January 26, 1950. The sanctity of the auspicious occasion necessitates the rightful duty of the citizens to celebrate the august occasion. This year the Constitution Day is being celebrated on November 26 on the subject – ‘India- the Mother of Democracy.’

“Accordingly, for the celebrations and sensitizing citizens in respect of ideals enshrined in the Constitution, Preamble reading ceremonies shall be held across the country on November 26, 2022 at 11.00 am. It has been also decided that similar preamble reading ceremonies shall be held across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, in all government offices, autonomous bodies, PSUs, local self government institutions (Panchayats, Municipal Bodies), Schools and/ Colleges,” read a GAD circular.

The Divisional Commissioners and Heads of the Departments, Deputy Commissioners and Managing Directors of all PSUs and Corporations have been directed to organize ‘Preamble reading ceremonies’ on similar lines, on the scheduled date and time in their respective offices, locations.

According to the circular, further talks, webinars, discussions to embolden the constitutional values and fundamental principles will also be taken up on Constitution Day.

JAMMU, Nov 24: The Jammu and Kashmir police along with the special operations group recovered one suspicious package on Thursday, November 24, in the field near Chhani Manhasan in the Vijaypur area of J&K’s Samba. Upon inspection, the J&K police recovered arms and ammunition along with a wad of cash from the package which was dropped by a Pakistani drone from across the border.
Notably, following reliable input, J&K police spotted a package in the field in Jammu’s Samba in the early hours of Thursday. After getting the information about the suspicious package, security forces rushed to the spot including the bombs squad team of J&K police. According to the officials, the suspected package when recovered was sealed.
The J&K police recovered one steel Improvised Explosive Device (IED), two pistols, 4 magazines, several batteries and a watch from the package. They also recovered cash of around Rs 5 lakh from the package dropped in Samba.
Speaking about the recovery of the package, Additional SP Samba, Surinder Chaudhary said, “Police team from Vijaypur Police Station recovered one suspicious sealed packet today in the field near Chhani Manhasan in Samba, following reliable inputs. The spot is undisturbed and intact.
According to the preliminary information, this is a case of a drone dropping from Pakistan’s side attempting to smuggle in weapons and cash to the Indian side for carrying out terror-related activities in Jammu and Kashmir. As per the officials, there was a movement of a drone that was spotted in the area of Vijayapur which is opposite to Sialkot-Pakistan border.
Notably, senior police officials including SSP Samba reached the spot and monitored the operations. Also, searches are being conducted nearby as security forces suspect more drone droppings in the area concerned.
It is pertinent to mention that this drone dropping comes following a suspected drone detected by the Air Traffic Control (ATC) radars near Jammu airport in Jammu and Kashmir on November 20. Notably, the security forces were put on high alert after the suspected drone detection near the Jammu airport. (Agencies)

SRINAGAR, Nov 24: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday morning conducted searches in multiple locations in various places in three districts in the Union Territory as part of its investigation into a case registered with the State Investigative Agency in connection with ‘online journalists threat’ case.
Today’s searches is subsequent to the leads received from searches done a few days ago in the same case, Srinagar Police said.
The searches are being conducted in Srinagar, Badgam and Pulwama districts.
“Searches are going on in multiple locations in Srinagar, Badgam and Pulwama districts in connection with ‘online journalists threat’ case. This is subsequent to the leads received from searches done a few days ago in same case,” Srinagar Police tweeted.
Further details into the matter are awaited.
Earlier on November 19, in the wake of a threat to Kashmir- based journalists by a proscribed terror outfit, Srinagar Police conducted simultaneous searches at various locations across Kashmir.
The police team comprised of four to five members launched simultaneous searches at twelve locations across the valley including the houses of fugitives like Sajjad Gul, Mukhtar Baba, active terrorists of the proscribed terror outfit LeT (TRF) and other suspects in Srinagar, Anantnag and Kulgam districts.
According to police, a First Information Report (FIR) under relevant sections of law was registered in Sherghari police station against terror handlers, active terrorists and terrorist associates of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and its offshoot of The Resistance Front (TRF) for online publication and dissemination of direct threat letters to journalists and reporters of Kashmir.
“The premises which were raided and searched belong to Mohd Rafi at Nigeen, Khalid Gul at Anantnag, Rashid Maqbool at Lal Bazar, Momin Gulzar at Eidgah, Basit Dar at Kulgam, Sajjad Kralyari at Rainawari, Gowhar Geelani at Soura, Qazi Shibli at Anantnag, Sajjad Sheikh @Sajjad Gul at HMT Srinagar, Mukhtar Baba at Nowgam, Waseem Khalid at Rawalpora and Adil Pandit at Khanyar Srinagar,” the police said.
