Intelligence agencies have issued a security alert for Delhi and Uttarakhand following an alleged threat suggesting that Khalistani terrorists could target key locations in the coming days, official sources said.

According to intelligence inputs, the threat primarily concerns possible attacks on prominent temples in Delhi and Uttarakhand. Government establishments, railway stations, and police installations have also been identified as potential targets.

Sources said the alert was triggered after an email containing alleged threats was received. The email reportedly mentioned several temples, government offices, and political leaders as possible targets, prompting security agencies to initiate precautionary measures.

Following the alert, Delhi Police, Uttarakhand Police, and central intelligence agencies have been placed on high vigilance. Security arrangements at sensitive religious places, government buildings, transportation hubs, and other vulnerable locations are being strengthened to prevent any untoward incident.

Officials said Delhi Police has launched an investigation to verify the authenticity of the email and trace its origin. Cyber experts and intelligence agencies are examining technical details to determine whether the threat is credible.

Authorities have not disclosed specific locations or operational details for security reasons but have assured that all necessary preventive measures are being taken.

This is not the first such alert this year. Ahead of the Republic Day celebrations in January, intelligence agencies had warned of possible attempts by proscribed Khalistani outfits and Bangladesh-based terrorist organisations to target New Delhi and several other cities.

Similarly, in February, security agencies issued another alert after receiving intelligence inputs regarding a possible terror threat near the Red Fort in Delhi. Intelligence reports at the time indicated that terrorists could target a temple in the Chandni Chowk area, prompting heightened security around religious places and heritage sites.

Security agencies continue to maintain close coordination with local police forces and other law enforcement agencies to monitor developments and ensure public safety.

Officials have appealed to the public to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious activity or unattended objects to the nearest police station or emergency helpline, while avoiding rumours or unverified information circulating on social media.

 Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday departed on a three-day State Visit to Seychelles, where he will attend the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the island nation’s National Day as the Guest of Honour and hold bilateral talks with President Patrick Herminie to deepen strategic and maritime cooperation.

In his departure statement, Prime Minister Modi described Seychelles as a valued maritime neighbour and a key partner in India’s Vision MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions) as well as New Delhi’s commitment to the Global South.

“This year marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Seychelles, rooted in mutual trust, shared democratic values, respect for diversity, and deep people-to-people ties,” the Prime Minister said.

During the June 27–29 visit, Modi will participate in Seychelles’ Golden Jubilee National Day celebrations and become the first Indian Prime Minister to address the National Assembly of Seychelles, a milestone reflecting the close democratic and parliamentary ties between the two countries.

The Prime Minister said he looks forward to comprehensive discussions with President Patrick Herminie to further strengthen the enduring friendship and expand cooperation in maritime security, economic development, and regional stability in the Indian Ocean.

“Together, we will work to advance the progress of our peoples and promote security and prosperity in the Indian Ocean region,” Modi said.

He will also interact with the Indian community in Seychelles, acknowledging its longstanding contribution in strengthening the special relationship between the two nations.

According to officials, an Indian Armed Forces contingent and two Indian Navy ships will participate in the National Day celebrations, underscoring the growing defence and maritime partnership.

Prime Minister Modi last visited Seychelles in 2015. His latest visit follows President Patrick Herminie’s State Visit to India in February 2026 and is expected to further enhance bilateral ties, reinforce maritime cooperation, and advance the shared vision of a secure, peaceful, and prosperous Indian Ocean region.

: Launching a sharp attack on the Narendra Modi-led government, Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Saturday criticised the Centre’s continued silence over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, describing its stance as “morally reprehensible” and “strategically inexplicable.”

In an opinion article published in The Indian Express, Gandhi accused the government of abandoning India’s long-standing commitment to justice, peace, and support for the Palestinian cause. She argued that New Delhi’s silence has weakened India’s diplomatic standing while distancing the country from its historical allies, including Palestine, Iran, and several nations across the Middle East.

Gandhi alleged that India has failed to respond to growing international concern over Israel’s military actions in Gaza, despite increasing global criticism and legal scrutiny. Referring to findings of a United Nations Commission of Inquiry, she highlighted reports documenting the large-scale destruction of civilian infrastructure, schools, hospitals, and the heavy toll on children during the conflict.

She stated that India’s traditional foreign policy had always been guided by anti-colonial solidarity, respect for sovereignty, and humanitarian values. According to Gandhi, the present government’s silence has undermined those principles and isolated India from the broader international community.

The Congress leader also questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s diplomatic engagement with Israel, describing his visit ahead of the Israel-Iran conflict as a “bewildering strategic decision.” She argued that India has sacrificed both its moral standing and strategic interests while allowing Pakistan to project itself as a mediator in regional affairs.

Gandhi further claimed that several countries, including France, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, South Africa, and Latin American nations, have taken stronger positions on the Gaza conflict, while India has remained largely silent despite its historical leadership role among Global South nations.

Calling for a reassessment of India’s foreign policy, Gandhi urged the government to reclaim its independent diplomatic tradition and speak with “moral clarity” on the humanitarian situation in Gaza.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge echoed Gandhi’s views, stating that her article serves as a reminder that India’s current foreign policy has alienated the country from its long-standing partners in the Middle East. Rahul Gandhi also shared the article, asserting that India should uphold humanitarian values and restore its independent voice in international affairs.
