Nitish Kumar to take oath as Bihar CM for 8th time today

Nitish Kumar will take oath as Bihar’s chief minister for the 8th time today (Wednesday) afternoon at 2pm, after leaving BJP on Tuesday and forming new “Grand Alliance” with Tejashwi Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and other Opposition parties. Tejashwi Yadav will take oath as Deputy Chief Minister.

After meeting Bihar Governor, Nitish said, “Seven parties including 164 MLAs along with independent MLA in our Mahagathbandhan,” at a joint presser with RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav.

Nitish Kumar ended his alliance with the BJP National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and rejoined hands with RJD on a day of rapidly changing political developments in Bihar.

According to a tweet by Kumar’s new alliance partner RJD, the swearing-in ceremony will be held at 2 pm at Raj Bhavan.

“The swearing-in ceremony of Honorable Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister will be held tomorrow at 2 pm at Raj Bhavan,” the party said in a tweet from its official handle.

CORBEVAX booster shot approved for 18 years and above jabbed with Covaxin, Covishield

New Delhi, August 10: The Central Government has approved Biological E’s Corbevax for restricted use in an emergency as a heterologous booster dose, official sources confirmed on Wednesday.
Last month the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (NTAGI) recommended Biological E’s CORBEVAX as a heterologous booster for adults above 18 yrs old.
On June 4, this year Biological E. Limited (BE), a Hyderabad-based pharmaceutical and vaccines company announced that its CORBEVAX COVID-19 vaccine has been approved by the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) as a heterologous booster dose after 6 months of administration of primary jabs of Covaxin or Covishield vaccines for restricted use in the emergency situation for the individuals aged 18 years and above.
“BE’s CORBEVAX is the first such vaccine in India to be approved as a heterologous COVID-19 booster. Recently, BE has furnished its clinical trials data to the DCGI who after a detailed evaluation and deliberations with the Subject Experts Committee, granted their approval for administering the Corbevax vaccine as a heterologous booster dose to people who have already taken two doses of either Covishield or Covaxin,” an official statement from BE read.
“BE’s clinical trial data showed that Corbevax booster dose provided significant enhancement in immune response and excellent safety profile required for an effective booster,” it added.
Mahima Datla, Managing Director, Biological E. Limited, said, “We are very happy with this approval, which will address the need for COVID-19 booster doses in India. We have crossed yet-another milestone in our COVID-19 vaccination journey. This approval reflects that once again sustained world-class safety standards and high immunogenicity of Corbevax.”
“BE has conducted a multicentre Phase III placebo-controlled heterologous booster clinical trial in 416 subjects from 18 to 80 years of age who were previously vaccinated with two doses of either COVISHIELD or COVAXIN at least 6 months prior to the administration of Corbevax as a booster dose,” the statement read further.
“The booster dose of Corbevax increased the neutralizing antibody titers in the Covishield and Covaxin groups significantly when compared to the placebo,” it added.
So far, India’s Cumulative COVID-19 vaccination Coverage has exceeded 207.03 Crore (2,07,03,71,204) till 7 am on August 10. (Agencies)

Nov 25 deadline for final electoral roll publication in J&K: ECI

New Delhi, 10 August: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has notified the schedule of Special Summary Revision (SSR) with reference to October 1, 2022 as the qualifying date, in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir with an opportunity for youth attaining 18 years on it (qualifying date) or earlier to become part of voters list in the UT.

As per its notification, November 25, 2022 has been set as the deadline for publication of final electoral roll, after due disposal of all claims and objections filed within the stipulated time period.

The ECI notification issued in this regard on August 8, 2022 was in continuation to its earlier notification dated June 29, 2022.

As per the schedule applicable to the UT of Jammu and Kashmir, September 15, 2022 has been earmarked as the deadline for publication of integrated draft electoral roll; claims and objections can be filed between September 15 to October 25, 2022.

The disposal of claims will be made by November 10, 2022; checking of health parameters and obtaining Commission’s permission for final publication and updating database and printing of supplements will be completed by November 19, 2022 and the deadline for final publication of electoral roll will be November 25, 2022.

The Election Commission of India, in pursuance of the legal amendments in the Section 14(b) of the RP Act 1950 and consequent modifications in Registration of Electors Rules, 1960, whereby a provision for four qualifying dates i.e., January 1, April 1, July 1 and October 1 as eligibility for youngsters to register in electoral rolls as opposed to the earlier single qualifying date of January 1 only has been made, notified the Special Summary Revision(SSR) exercise for the UT of Jammu and Kashmir with reference to 1st October, 2022 as the qualifying date.

This means that any person who attains the age of 18 years on or before October 1, 2022 and is otherwise qualified to be enrolled as an elector in the Electoral Roll, can apply for his registration in the Electoral Roll during this SSR.

At present the pre-revision activities as well as post delimitation follow up work is going on in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir, wherein the existing electoral roll of the UT of Jammu and Kashmir are being mapped into the newly delimited assembly constituencies as per the Delimitation Commission’s final order made applicable by the Union Law Ministry w.e.f. May 20, 2022.

As part of the pre-revision activities, the process of rationalization or re-arrangement of polling stations, removal of discrepancies of demographically similar entries/photo similar entries, duplicate EPICs, preparation of supplements and integrated draft roll with reference to October 1, 2022 as the qualifying date is going on at present in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir.

The integrated draft Roll with reference to October 1, 2022 as the qualifying date will now be published by all EROs of the UT on September 15, 2022, marking the formal beginning of the revision activities, the notification has mentioned.

The revision activities which will begin on September 15, include disposal of claims and objections received after publication of integrated draft electoral roll.

Covid- 19 In JK: No new death reported, toll stays at 4776

Jammu & Kashmir Government in it’s daily Covid Bulletin on Saturday said that 796 fresh positive cases of novel Corona virus (COVID-19)including 136from Jammu division and 660 from Kashmir Valley reported in last 24 hours raised the total number of positive cases to 469041, Stating therein further that with no new Covid death reported in last 24 hours the J&K’s overall Covid death toll stayed at 4776.
Government in it’s above referred daily Covid Bulletin also said that moreover, 668 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and been discharged from various hospitals including 205 from Jammu division and 463 from Kashmir division.
According to the daily Media Bulletin on novel Corona virus (Covid-19), out of 469041positive cases, 5261are Active Positive (1357in Jammu Division and 3904in Kashmir Division), 459004have recovered and 4776have died; 2346 in Jammu division and 2430in Kashmir division.
The Government in it’s daily Covid Bulletin further said that out of 26210444 test results available, 469041 samples have tested positive and 25741403 samples have been tested as negative till date. Besides, 13,888COVID tests have been conducted in last 24 hours.
Till date 6699253 persons have been enlisted for observation which included 140persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 5261in isolation and 317in home surveillance. Besides, 6688759 persons have completed their surveillance period.
Providing district-wise breakup for positive cases for J&K, the Bulletin informs that in Kashmir division, Srinagar reported 219 cases, Baramulla reported 194 cases, Budgam 81 cases, Pulwama reported 07cases, Kupwara reported 66 cases, Anantnag reported 41 cases, Bandipora reported 16 cases, Ganderbal reported 04 cases, Kulgam reported 29 cases while as Shopian reported 03 fresh cases for Saturday.
Similarly in Jammu division, Jammu reported 52 cases, Udhampur 12, Rajouri 11, Doda 23, Kathua 05, Samba 04, Kishtwar 10, Poonch 02, Ramban 16 while as Reasi reported 01 fresh case.
The bulletin informs that in case of any help, the general public can call J&K Centralised Health Helpline- Toll Free No. 104.In case of emergency, people can avail free ambulance services 24×7 by calling toll free number 108 while as pregnant women and sick infants can avail free services by dialling toll free number 102, the bulletin reads.It also informs that the public can reach national helpline by dialling 1075.

Priyanka Gandhi tests positive for Covid-19, isolating at home

NEW DELHI, Aug 10: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday said she has tested positive for Covid again and would be isolating at home while following all protocols.
The Congress general secretary had also tested positive for COVID-19 in June last year. “Tested positive for Covid (again!) today. Will be isolating at home and following all protocols,” she said in a tweet.

Major terror strike averted ahead of Independence Day, 30 kg IED recovered in J&K’s Pulwama: ADGP Kumar

SRINAGAR, August 10: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday recovered approximately 25 to 30 kilograms of improvised explosive device (IED) near the Tahab Crossing on Circular road in the Union Territory’s Pulwama.This major tragedy has been averted days before the 75th Independence Day of India.
“An IED weighing approx. 25 to 30 Kgs were recovered near Tahab Crossing on Circular road in Pulwama by the Police and Security Forces. A major tragedy has been averted by specific input generated by Pulwama Police”, said Vijay Kumar, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Kashmir.

Encounter breaks out in J&K’s Budgam; 3 Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists trapped

SRINAGAR, Aug 10: The security forces on Wednesday trapped terrorists of banned terror outfit “The Resistance Front” (TRF)/Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in the ongoing encounter in Jammu and Kashmir`s Budgam. The Jammu and Kashmir Police said that terrorist Lateef Rather, who was involved in several civilian killings including Rahul Bhat and Amreen Bhat, is also trapped.

INDIA Active COVID-19 cases in India decline to 1,28,261

NEW DELHI, Aug 10: India Wednesday, August 10, 2022 recorded 16,047 new coronavirus cases and 54 fatalities including six reconciled by Kerala, according to the latest Union Health Ministry data.
With these additions, the country’s overall COVID-19 figures rose to 4,41,90,697 cases and 5,26,826 deaths.
The data updated at 8 am showed active cases coming down by 3,546 in a span of 24 hours to 1,28,261, and they now constitute 0.29 per cent of the total infections.
The COVID-19 recovery rate stood at 98.52 per cent, the Health Ministry said, adding the case fatality rate was 1.19 per cent.
The daily positivity rate was recorded at 4.94 per cent, while the weekly positivity was 4.90 per cent, the Health Ministry said. (Agencies)

Rusted grenade defused in J&K’s Rajouri

Jammu, Aug 9: An old and rusted grenade was on Tuesday defused by the experts of a bomb disposal squad in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said.
The grenade was spotted on the banks of a stream at Ghambir Mughlan in Manjakote area by some villagers who informed the local police station, a police official said.
A police party, along with the bomb disposal squad, rushed to the scene and destroyed the explosive device in a controlled explosion, the official said. (Agencies)
