Trust is the only currency that matters in journalism. These are the standards every Himalayan Express journalist works to.
Accuracy and verification
No story is published on a single, anonymous source. Claims are verified with documents or a second independent source wherever possible. Where a claim cannot be verified, the story says so.
Right of reply
Anyone facing serious criticism in a story is given a fair and reasonable opportunity to respond before publication.
Corrections
Errors are corrected quickly and transparently. Substantial corrections are noted at the foot of the story with the date and time.
Independence
Our newsroom does not accept gifts, hospitality or payments that could compromise coverage. Political affiliations are not permitted among reporters and editors. Sponsored content is written by a separate team and clearly labelled.
Attribution
Quotes are reported in context. Wire copy, agency material and press releases are attributed and edited for accuracy, relevance and our own style.
Photographs and video
Images are not digitally altered in ways that change their meaning. File images are labelled as such. Plagiarism and fabrication are grounds for immediate termination.
Reader participation
Our comments section is moderated. We remove abuse, hate speech, misinformation and spam, and we ban repeat offenders.
