Mehbooba Mufti Placed Under House Arrest in Anticipation of Supreme Court Decision on Article 370

Srinagar, December 11 : In anticipation of the Supreme Court’s verdict on petitions challenging the abrogation of Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti has been placed under house arrest, according to her party.

“Prior to the pronouncement of the Supreme Court judgment, the police have sealed the doors of @MehboobaMufti’s residence and subjected her to an unlawful house arrest,” stated the party in a post on X.

Simultaneously, authorities prevented journalists from gathering near the residences of National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah and vice-president Omar Abdullah on Gupkar Road. Police presence was evident at the entry point, restricting journalists’ access to the NC leaders’ residence.

Omar Abdullah, residing with his father since vacating his official residence in October 2020, is currently in the valley, while Farooq Abdullah, Srinagar’s Member of Parliament, is in Delhi for the ongoing Parliament session.
