Supreme Court Dismisses Pleas for 100% VVPAT Verification of EVM Votes

On Friday, the Supreme Court of India dismissed petitions requesting comprehensive cross-verification of votes cast via Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) with Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) records. The decision was rendered by a bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta, each providing concurring judgments.

Justice Khanna, delivering the verdict, stated that the court had rejected all petitions, including those advocating a return to ballot papers in elections. This ruling upholds the current election procedures involving EVMs and VVPATs, maintaining the established electoral framework in India.
