Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Voting Commences in 88 Seats Across 13 States in Phase Two

Voting for the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections 2024 is currently underway across 88 seats in 13 states. Today’s polls cover all remaining seats in Rajasthan, Kerala, Tripura, and Manipur, along with 14 seats in Karnataka.

In addition to these states, voting is taking place for eight seats each in Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, seven seats in Madhya Pradesh, five seats each in Assam and Bihar, three seats in West Bengal and Chhattisgarh, and one seat in Jammu and Kashmir.

Over 15.88 crore eligible voters are participating in this phase to determine the fate of 1202 candidates contesting for the 88 seats. Prominent candidates include Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, contesting from Wayanad, and Shashi Tharoor and Union Minister Rajeev Chandrashekhar competing in Thiruvananthapuram.

The BJP is optimistic about its prospects in Kerala, particularly in Thiruvananthapuram where a close contest is anticipated. Other seats where the BJP expects significant support include Thrissur and Alappuzha.

The polling originally planned for 89 seats in this phase has been postponed to May 7 in Betul, Madhya Pradesh, following the demise of a BSP candidate.

According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), the second phase involves 8.08 crore male electors, 7.8 crore female electors, and 5929 third-gender electors.

The Lok Sabha elections 2024 are scheduled to be conducted in seven phases until June 1, with counting of votes set for June 4.
