New Delhi, Dec 12: On December 11, the Supreme Court of India delivered a landmark judgment on the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35(A). The court’s decision, upholding the sovereignty and integrity of India, has been warmly embraced by the nation. Recognizing that the August 5, 2019 decision aimed at enhancing constitutional integration, the court dismissed any notions of disintegration and affirmed that Article 370 was not of a permanent nature.
Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh, adorned with picturesque landscapes and majestic mountains, have long captivated poets, artists, and adventurers. Despite its natural beauty, the region has been marred by violence and instability for seven decades, an injustice to its resilient people.
Prime Minister Modi, connected with the Jammu and Kashmir cause from an early age, views the issue beyond mere politics, emphasizing the importance of addressing societal aspirations. Drawing inspiration from leaders like Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee and Atal Bihari Vajpayee, he aimed to rectify the historical betrayal to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Articles 370 and 35(A), perceived as major obstacles, hindered the region’s development, creating a divide among citizens. Prime Minister Modi’s administration prioritized understanding citizens’ concerns, building trust through actions, and focusing on development.
Initiatives such as the 2015 special package addressed infrastructure, job creation, tourism promotion, and support for the handicraft industry. Recognizing the power of sports, the government invested in upgrading sporting venues, organizing training programs, and encouraging local sports clubs, witnessing transformative impacts on youth aspirations.
The success of panchayat polls highlighted the democratic nature of the region, emphasizing principles over power. The historic decision on August 5, 2019, to abrogate Article 370, marked a turning point, leading to significant developments in Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh.
Over the past four years, there has been a renewed faith in grassroots democracy, with marginalized sections gaining representation. Central government schemes, such as Saubhagya and Ujjwala, have reached saturation levels, benefiting all sections of society.
Infrastructure and tourism have flourished, and the people’s resilience has played a pivotal role in the region’s growth. The Supreme Court’s recent verdict on December 11 has further strengthened the spirit of “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat,” emphasizing unity and a shared commitment to good governance.
Today, the people of Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh envision a future free from disillusionment, disappointment, and despondency, as development, democracy, and dignity replace the shadows of the past.
