Rahul Gandhi Re-Allotted Tughlaq Lane House After Supreme Court Directive

In a significant turn of events, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has regained possession of his 12, Tughlaq Lane bungalow, a day after the Supreme Court directive reinstated his status as a Lok Sabha member. This move follows his disqualification earlier due to his conviction and a two-year jail term, which had led to his eviction from the residence.

The House Committee of the Lok Sabha, in light of the Supreme Court’s decision, has taken the step to re-allot the same bungalow to Rahul Gandhi, which he had been asked to vacate in March. This decision comes after the Lok Sabha Secretariat restored Gandhi’s membership in the lower house on Monday, following the Supreme Court’s stay on his conviction in a defamation case.

Gandhi’s witty remark, “Mera ghar pura Hindustan hai (The whole country is my home),” reflects his perspective on the matter when asked about the bungalow’s re-allotment.

Earlier, in April, Rahul Gandhi adhered to protocol and vacated his official residence in central Delhi upon his disqualification as a Member of Parliament. His disqualification had arisen from a Surat court’s conviction in a criminal defamation case.

It’s worth noting that a disqualified Member of Parliament is no longer entitled to government accommodation and is given a month’s time to vacate the official residence. However, with the Supreme Court’s decision to stay his conviction, Rahul Gandhi’s status has been reinstated, leading to his re-allotment of the Tughlaq Lane bungalow.

As Rahul Gandhi returns to his former residence, this development marks a significant shift in his political journey, prompting discussions about the impact of legal proceedings on the realm of Indian politics. With the bungalow’s doors open to him once again, his re-entry into the house at Tughlaq Lane symbolizes a renewed phase in his political endeavors.
