Tapas Sudan, a researcher, at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, has been awarded the Centrally Administered Doctoral Fellowship by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) Doctoral Fellowship to work on his Ph.D. thesis titled “Mitigation Strategies Adopted to Combat Unprecedented Supply Chain Disruptions: The Case of Indian Manufacturing Industry” under the supervision of Dr Rashi Taggar, Faculty, School of Business, for a period
of two years. Twenty-eight students from Jammu and Kashmir were awarded the doctoral fellowship out of 461. Earlier, the candidate has also received funding from the Asian Development Bank (Tokyo) for his research on “Recovering Supply Chain Disruptions in the Post-COVID-19 Pandemic Through Transport Intelligence and Logistics Systems: India’s Experiences and Policy Options”, co-authored with his supervisor. The researcher has published research papers in national and international journals and edited volumes,
besides attending and participating in national and international conferences related to supply chain management and other allied management aspects.

NDPI Chief challenges BJP to dare and take back land from former ministers, bureaucrats
Jammu: National Democratic Party Indian (NDPI) J&K UT Chief, Rajesh Gupta on Wednesday challenged BJP Government run by LG Manoj Sinha if you have guts then show the people of J&K by removing an inch of the land from former ministers, bureaucrats. “We demand roll back of this unjust land notification. The BJP- controlled administration is planning an escape route for big sharks involved in land mafia business by uprooting poor and landless people,” NDPI president claimed that the government’s aim is to keep people engaged so that they have no time to think over “real issues”. “All its agencies have failed (to control dissent). And this is now an attempt to keep the people occupied. Every now and then, they come up with some new order, some new diktat to harass the people.”
NDPI leader strongly maintained that BJP leaders seem to be unaware about the ground realities. He alleged that BJP has been totally failed to genuine issues of the people from J&K while deliberating upon various day to
day problems being faced by the public in the absence of any elected Govt. people of UT are deprived of basic amenities like power, water supplies. Besides this people are suffering the burden of Toll Plazas.
He said, “People at large have been feeling sense of deprivation,” the NDPI leader said, blaming the BJP for betraying Jammu. “People are realizing the futility of electing a government that is not only insensitive towards their problems but also responsible in adding to these on every front”, he said. Gupta stated that people had enough dose of misgovernance in the J&K for last six years, saying people have realized that they have to support NDPI which can address their issues and fulfill their expectations.”

Education ministry seeks factual report from WB govt on ‘Azad Kashmir’ question in school book
New Delhi, Jan 18 : The Ministry of Education has asked for a factual report from the West Bengal government on a class 10 model question paper asking students to mark “Azad Kashmir” in a map, sources said on Wednesday. “The ministry has taken a serious view of news reports on a question for class 10 examination 2022-23 of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education asking the students to identify ‘Azad Kashmir’ on India’s map,” a source said.
“The ministry has asked for a factual report along with an Action Taken Report from the Education Department of West Bengal in connection with the question in the test paper,” the source added.
A political row had erupted in West Bengal on Tuesday after an image of the class 10 model question paper asking students to mark “Azad Kashmir” in a map went viral on social media, with the opposition BJP claiming it to be a “jihadi conspiracy” and the ruling TMC in the state terming it a mistake that it does not support. West Bengal Board of Secondary Education president Ramanuj Ganguly had conceded that the “goof-up” took place in the test papers published by the autonomous body, adding that action was being taken against those responsible for the mistake. Kyiv helicopter crash kills 18 top Ukraine officials dead
Kyiv, Jan 18 (AP) A helicopter crash in a Kyiv suburb Wednesday killed 18 people, including Ukraine’s interior minister and three children, Ukrainian authorities said.
Interior Minister Denys Monastyrskyi, his deputy Yevhen Yenin and State Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Yurii Lubkovych were among those killed, according to Ihor Klymenko, chief of Ukraine’s National Police. Monastyrskyi is the most senior Ukrainian official to have died since the start of the war with Russia almost 11 months ago.
Nine of those killed were aboard the emergency services helicopter that crashed in Brovary, an eastern suburb of the Ukrainian capital, Klymenko said.
Kyiv Regional Governor Oleksii Kuleba said three children were also killed. Earlier, officials and media reports said the helicopter crashed near a kindergarten.
There was no immediate word on whether the crash was an accident or a result of the war with Russia. No fighting has been reported recently in the Kyiv area.
A total of 29 people were injured, including 15 children, the regional governor said.

Not This Winter: Deadly Snow Avalanches Halt Work On Strategic Zojila Tunnel
SRINAGAR, Jan 18: Last year, despite heavy snow, work was not stopped at the strategic Zojila tunnel that would provide access to Ladakh throughout the year once completed. But not this winter. Two deadly snow avalanches not only stopped the work but around 1000 workers were sent out of the area for safety reasons.
The avalanches have killed two workers of the construction company Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Ltd. (MEIL) which has been awarded the construction of the Zojila tunnel.
The contract to the MEIL was awarded on October 1, 2020 and the work on Zojila Tunnel connecting Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh commenced in April 2021.
“Since the work was started the company achieved excellent results throughout 2021 and 2022. Tunneling works were progressing well till January 10, 2023. But heavy snowfall disrupted the works on January 10 and keeping in view the safety of the crew all works were suspended,” says the Project Manager Harpal Singh.
Giving details of snow avalanches in the area, he said a massive snow avalanche set off from Serbal village on January 12 killed two workers who were outside the camp for unknown reasons. Subsequently, he said, the company advised all workmen to leave the project areas but 172 workers are staying back.
“900 workmen left the project on January 13,” he added.
Singh told Outlook that another deadly snow avalanche hit on January 14 at 5:30 pm and transported about 50000 m3 of snow.
“All 172 workmen had decided to stay in the camp which is 100m away from NILGRAR tunnel and were very safe,” he added.
“Next morning all 172 workers evacuated safely and were sent to their homes,” he said. “Entire project work is now under suspension from Sonamarg to Baltal,” he added. However, the work on the project from the Ladakh side hasn’t stopped as the area is not proved slide prone so far.
The Zojila tunnel will be a two-lane highway (9.5 meters wide and 7.57 meters high) in the shape of a horseshoe. The New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM), an advanced technology, is being used in these works.
The government of India conceived the idea of the Zojila tunnel in 2005 to have all-weather connectivity to Ladakh as the UPA government felt all-weather connectivity to Ladakh was a strategic necessity. The government started exploring the possibility of the tunnel and handed over the project to the BRO in 2013.
In 2016 the NDA government raised funds and floated bids but one player came forward under BOOT mode. The concerned agency, however, failed to carry on the work and the project stopped for a few months. Then in 2020 the government of India came up with a new design and the work was allotted under EPC mode where a contractor has to design, construct and maintain the tunnel and funds would be provided by the government.
Last year with the onset of the autumn and early snow all hotels shut earlier in Sonmarg. But Singh didn’t stop the work. But this year snow avalanches have forced the company to stop the work. The deadline to complete the project is 2026 but Singh says it will be completed early.
Maruti Suzuki recalls 17,362 cars for Faulty airbag controller
India’s leading automobile manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., primarily known for its passenger cars, has recently recalled 17,362 vehicles, including the recently released Grand Vitara, Alto K10, S-Presso, Eeco, Brezza, and Baleno, in order to replace the airbag controllers.
Models released between December 8, 2022, and January 12, 2023 are being recalled by the company after the discovery of the faulty airbag controllers.
Maruti Suzuki has stated in a notification that the purpose of the recall is to inspect and, if necessary, replace the airbag controller in these vehicles for free.
In rare instances, it is possible that the damaged part may have a flaw that prevents the airbags and seat belt pretensioners from operating in the event of a collision.
Customers of the faulty cars have been advised by Maruti Suzuki not to use or drive the vehicle until the damaged part has been replaced.
Maruti Suzuki has stated in a notification that the purpose of the recall is to inspect and, if necessary, replace the airbag controller in these vehicles for free.
Affected vehicle owners will receive communication from Maruti Suzuki authorised workshops for immediate attention, the company said.
This week, the company also launched its much awaited 5 door Jimny sports utility vehicle (SUV) in two variants – Alpha and Zeta.
Committee to inquire allegatiions levelled against MS, SMGS Jammu
JAMMU: A committee has been constituted by Health and Medical Education Department to look into the allegations levelled against Medical Superintendent, SMGS Hospital, GMC Jammu.
“Sanction is, hereby, accorded to the constitution of an Inquiry Committee comprising of the following officers to enquire into the allegations: levelled against Medical Superintendent, SMGS Hospital, Government Medical College, and Jammu by parking managers,” reads an order, issued by Secretary Health.
As per order committee members include Zahoor Ahmad Wani, Director Finance, Health & Medical Education Department, Ata UI Munim Tak, Deputy Secretary to the Government, Health & Medical Education Department and Sanjeev Sharma, Deputy Secretary to the Government, Health & Medical Education Department.
