National Democratic Party Indian (NDPI) expressed its strong concern over the Jammu region is grossly
discriminated in all most all walks of life and for this discrimination not only the valley based political masters are responsible but the passive attitude of the Jammu political leaders is no less responsible for the gross discrimination and injustice with the Jammu region.
NDPI held an office bearers meeting in the party office, here on Tuesday, which was addressed by NDPI chief Rajesh Gupta who was accompanied by other senior leaders including Umesh Manhas, Rajiv Luthra, S. Kuljit Singh, Sandeep Anand and Tilak Raj. Rajesh Gupta appealed to people of all walks of life of Jammu to join the peaceful struggle against discrimination with Jammu. NDPI chief said, “In the matter of education, employment, professional trainings, allocations of the funds and budgets, economic and social development and for the national projects and its allocations the Jammu stands discriminated and this is a sad commentary and it adversely impacts all of us. So the political leadership of Jammu, social and cultural organizations as well as the common masses of Jammu should stand up and be ready for the peaceful struggle so that the discrimination with the Jammu province will be removed but it requires selfless struggle on the part of the people and political leaders’.
NDPI leader said, “the Jammu province has been largely discriminated by the successive valley dominated rulers ever since the dawn of the democratic rule .The fact that the Jammu region stands grossly discriminated is not hidden from anyone .It is very disturbing that step motherly treatment has been meted with the Jammu region and there is the immediate need to do away with over seven decades of the continuous discrimination and give the people of this region its due share in the matters of socio economic and political development”.
NDPI president further added, “thus discrimination is rite large on the face of Jammu and this is a serious matter and the political parties and leaders of Jammu should not play second fiddle to the perpetuation of the hegemony by the Kashmir centric rulers and political masters. So serious efforts need to be undertaken by the powers that be to facilitate the discrimination free Jammu so that this division will also feel justice and equity in the lap of the democracy and the sooner it is done the better. He also called for immediate assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir and said that only a democratically elected Government can come concrete on the security front as the bureaucratic setup of LG Administration has failed.

5 Teenagers Prevented From Joining Militancy In Jammu And Kashmir’s Baramulla: Police
Security forces have busted a terrorist recruitment module in the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir being run by Pakistani handlers through social media, a senior police officer said on Tuesday.
“Five youths, including two juveniles, were rescued from terror folds, counselled and handed over to their parents in the Pattan area of Baramulla district,” Senior Superintendent of Police Amod Nagpure told reporters in Pattan, 30 kilometres from here.
He said the police and army unearthed the module in which Pakistani handlers through social media were trying to lure youths into joining terrorist ranks and act against the government of India.
5.8-Magnitude Quake Hits Nepal; Tremors Felt In Delhi-NCR, Rajasthan
New Delhi, Jan 24: A 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck Nepal Tuesday afternoon with tremors also being felt in parts of Delhi, national capital region and Jaipur.
The quake struck at 2:28 pm with the epicentre in Nepal at a place 148 km east of Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand, the National Centre for Seismology said.
“It was scary as the tremors hit,” said Shantanu, who resides in a high-rise tower in Noida.
Amit Pandey, a Delhi resident, said, “I was on the fifth floor of one of the blocks at the Civic Centre. I felt a growling noise beneath my feet and a mild shake, when the tremor passed through perhaps.” Many others in the towering Civic Centre, the headqauters of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, also felt the tremors which hit when the House proceedings were underway.
Tremors were felt in parts of Rajasthan’s capital city of Jaipur as well. There was no immediate report of loss of life or property from there.
Aero India to showcase nation’s growing strength in defence: Rajnath
The five-day event, on the theme ‘The runway to a billion opportunities’, will be the biggest-ever aero show organised at Air Force Station, Yelahanka in a total area of around 35,000 sqm. As of date, 731 exhibitors have registered for the event.
The Defence Ministers’ Conclave, with the theme ‘Shared Prosperity Through Enhanced Engagement in Defence (SPEED)’, and a CEOs Roundtable are among the marquee events.
The Manthan start-up event and Bandhan ceremony, which witnesses the signing of MoUs, will also be part of the event, along with a fabulous air show on all five days. It will showcase the paradigm shift the government has brought with the aim of organising such events, which also include DefExpo.
The events have been restructured with a focus on increasing defence exports and forging partnerships rather than merely import of weapons and equipment.
Singh pointed out that the country’s defence industry was going through a transformational phase and the active participation of the private sector was the biggest catalyst to that change.
“Not just the private sector, but R&D establishments and academia are also working together with the government. Aero India is a medium to provide a platform to all the stakeholders to jointly strengthen the defence and aerospace sector and contribute to nation-building,” he added.
He emphasised that while Aero India was a business event, it also aimed to strengthen India’s relations with other countries. He also underlined the importance of these events for the business ecosystem of the states in which they were organised as well as available opportunities.
The defence minister commended Bengaluru for successfully organising several editions of AeroIndia, saying that the event was shaping Karnataka as an epicenter of the aviation and aerospace industry.
Making IB, RAW reports public a matter of grave concern: Kiren Rijiju on SC Collegium resolutions
New Delhi, Jan 24: Law Minister Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday said it was a “matter of grave concern” that certain portions of sensitive reports of the Intelligence Bureau and Research and Analysis Wing were put in public domain by the Supreme Court Collegium.
He said intelligence agency officials work in a secret manner for the nation, and they would “think twice” in future if their reports are made public.
He was responding to questions on some recent Supreme Court Collegium resolutions, which contained potions of IB and RAW reports on certain names recommended by the top court for appointment as high court judges, being made public last week.
The Collegium had reiterated the names to the government earlier this month while rejecting intelligence inputs.
“Putting the sensitive or secret reports of RAW and IB in public domain is a matter of grave concern on which I will react at an appropriate time,” Rijiju told reporters at a Law Ministry event here. (Agencies)
Don’t Agree With Digvijaya’s Views: Rahul Firefights Surgical Strike Row
JAMMU, Jan 24: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday distanced himself from senior party leader Digvijaya Singh’s remarks over the authenticity of surgical strikes in the aftermath of the 2019 Pulwama attack and said the army doesn’t need to provide any proof as he combated the fallout of Singh’s remarks calling them “outlying” or views held by the fringe.
This comes after Digvijaya Singh said there is no proof of the 2019 surgical strike against Pakistan, while the Centre claims to have carried out the attack. Disagreeing with Singh’s remarks, Rahul Gandhi said that those were Singh’s personal views.
The Wayanad MP, who is currently in Jammu for the Bharat Jodo Yatra, said that Digvijaya’s views are outlying.
“We don’t appreciate Digvijaya Singh’s personal views. His views are outlying views. We are absolutely clear that the Armed Forces do their job exceptionally well and they do not need to provide proof of that,” said Rahul Gandhi during a press conference.
He also spoke about his meeting with a delegation of Kashmiri Pandits, who have complained that they have been used for political gains.
“I met a delegation of Kashmiri Pandits yesterday. They have expressed that they feel they are being disrespected and used for political gains. They requested me to raise their issues in parliament,” said the Congress MP.
When asked about the banned BBC documentary, he said that the truth always comes out and no amount of banning can suppress the truth from coming out.
“The truth always comes out. No amount of banning the press and using institutions like ED and CBI against people can suppress the truth from coming out,” said Gandhi.
Earlier during the yatra an agitated Jairam Ramesh lashed out at the media on Tuesday, saying all that needed to be said about Digviajaya’s comment have already been done. The questions should now be directed at the Prime Minister.
A day after Singh stirred up the hornet’s nest and the Congress distanced itself from the leader, party MP in charge of Communication, Ramesh told the media while walking for the Bharat Jodo Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir that all queries related to the surgical strike uproar have been answered by his party and the media needs to aim its questions at Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Digvijaya Singh trying to put an end to the row also said: “I have got the greatest regard for the Defence forces” as the leaders marched on along with other padayatris.
“Congress party has said whatever it wanted to. I tweeted yesterday regarding the same. I do not want to say anything other than this,” he said.
Taking to Twitter, Ramesh claimed that even the UPA government had carried out surgical strikes.
“The views expressed by senior leader Digvijaya Singh are his own and do not reflect the position of Congress. Surgical strikes were carried out before 2014 by the UPA government. Congress has supported and will continue to support all military actions that are in the national interest,” Ramesh tweeted.
“They (Centre) talk about surgical strikes and that they have killed so many of them but there is no proof,” said Digvijaya Singh in his address in Jammu on Monday. (Agencies)

DSS cautions, seeks experts committee
Alarmed with the recent reports from Joshimath and in the backdrop of the Chamoli disaster earlier,
the executive committee of Dogra Sadar Sabha (DSS) has appealed to the Hon’ble Lt Governor Shri
Manoj Sinha to constitute and invite an Experts’ Committee to Ramban district at the earliest to
review adhoc execution of works being carried out on haphazard road and rail alignments that are
causing extensive damage to houses and agricultural lands of hundreds of residents of nearby villages,
besides forest lands in the district under NH 44 National Highway Widening Project and stated that a
man-made disaster, similar to the recent one in Joshimath in Uttrakhand, is staring into the face in
Ramban district as accelerated and unabated landslides and sinking agricultural and forest lands have
caused cracks in the walls of hundreds of houses, shops, commercial establishments and temples in
villages of Dalwas, Dharmond, Nashri, Kunfer, Peerah, Chanderkote, Karole, Nera, Seri etc.,
Shri Gulchain Singh Charak, Former minister and President DSS addressing a press conference along
with Executive Committee members of the DSS said that residents of Chanderkote -Ramban area have
been complaining of execution of Project works, not by the officially engaged company, but by the
unqualified contractors to whom the job has been outsourced by it. Even the alignments have been
made at several places out of political considerations for inclusion and exclusion of villages and not
based on technical study.
Shri Charak appealed to the Hon’ble LG Shri Manoj Sinha and the Hon’ble Highways and Transport
Minister of the Union Government Shri Nitin Gadkari to “constitute an appropriate and empowered
committee to have a detailed appraisal, unbiased supervision and monitoring of ongoing works to fix
responsibility for losses and to accelerate provision of due compensation/ relief and permanent
accommodation to adversely affected families. besides suggesting corrective measures”.
in Uttrakhand While conveying heartfelt sympathies with thousands of hapless residents of Joshimath
affected by widening cracks in their houses and agricultural fields and roads, house collapses, Shri
Charak hailed Government of India for readily constituting a Committee to conduct a rapid study of the
occurrence of land subsidence and its impact in the Joshimath region of Uttrakhand.
Shri Charak said that he had already written to the Hon’ble Lt Governor and Hon’ble Highways and
Transport Minister about the grim situation in Ramban district which had deprived hundreds of
residents of their livelihood and has repeatedly brought the issue to the notice of the concerned
district and divisional level authorities on several occasions, but little heed has been paid to our
concerns.
Shri Charak further said that huge debris (mulba) excavated with the use of heavy machinery and
explosives for ruthless cutting of earth along steep mountain slopes during the road widening
project is being thrown straightaway into River Chenab giving an open invitation to serious floods that
may occur due to blockade of the flow of waters in River Chenab. He pointed out that in Dalwas
village, houses were seen with the earth cut and removed from about 60 ft. vertically beneath the
foundations, while the retaining walls constructed were quite insufficient.
Shri Charak said that inadequate relief and compensation was provided to some affected families and
initially the District Development Commissioner, Ramban and Tehsildar Batote had provided some
temporary accommodation to affected families in government schools and the Company’s quarters at
Dalwas, but no soccour came later and no compensation was paid to them. There was an undue delay
in release of Compensation to other Land Owners (Zamindarans) whose land was acquired by the
government for link roads and other Road Construction during 2007 – 2010 under NABARD projects.
He added that the contributors of land had approached Revenue Authorities of Distt. Ramban many a
times for early release of pending dues, but the matter continues to be delayed on one pretext or the
other.
Shri Charak emphasised that if the slopes and fragile soils of the Shivaliks and Peer Panchal ranges of
the Himalayas and the hills of Jammu region are not taken care of properly and at the earliest, the
unplanned and ill executed road and railway line construction works through excessive use of
explosives and JCBs will continue to bring greater disasters.
Shri Charak stressed that regular landslides are leading to excessive loss of fuel, trade and hours of
journey and danger level of expected damages is on manifold increase.
The rampant deforestation in the name of clearing the road alignment is unchecked and rampant,
with no reforestation plans in sight, either by contracted agencies or the forest department. There
seems to be no ‘Relief and Disaster Management Policy’ to deal with any such foreseeable calamity.
Shri Charak further stated that though there is a pressing need to construct good roads, improve last
village connectivity, construct hydel-projects and other necessary infrastructure to meet the
requirements of ever increasing population, visitors, tourists’ traffic and development, but there is
also an urgent need to make proper plans and execute works properly to avert disasters.

Doctor-private clinic continues to prevail in J&K alleges patients
SRINAGAR: Despite constitution of divisional level Prescriptions Audit Committee (PAC), doctors in several hospitals of Jammu and Kashmir aren’t prescribing generic medicines to patients available at the hospital.
Health officials on condition of anonymity said that doctors at various hospitals are not prescribing generic medicines to the patients so as to give benefit to private clinics and to give their percentage as well.
They said directions given doctors to mention, unit/department name on the prescription is also thrown to the winds so that identity of doctors not prescribing generic medicines won’t get disclosed.
Meanwhile, attendants as well as patients said that the nexus between doctors and private clinics is still active and in order to get benefit doctors are prescribing costly drugs and unnecessary diagnostic tests.
“Unnecessary diagnostic tests/procedures are prescribed and patients are referred to the private clinics/specialists without requirement,” they said.
They added that despite the availability of generic drugs at the hospital, doctors are prescribing costly drugs which are not available at the hospital stores so that patients can get them from private clinics and the doctor will get his share.
A health official acknowledged that drugs are prescribed in contravention to the provisions of Drugs & Cosmetic Act & Regularizations.
He said that the government has already taken a serious note of it and recommendations, highlighting actionable points will be sought from concerned authorities in this regard so that this practice can be stopped fully.
“The prescription Audit report submitted by the Nodal Officer has raised serious issues regarding prescription of patients where doctors are not writing Generic drugs and does not mention the name, unit/department on the prescription.” Medical Superintendent Associated Hospital GMC Anantnag has recently written to all doctors of the hospital.
“Accordingly it is once again intimated to prescribe Generic Drugs for which Jan Aushadhi Kendra and AMRIT Stores are already functional in the hospital so that patients will be benefitted and make proper signatures, write full name and unit/department on each and every prescription.” It reads further.
Notably, Directorate of Health Service Kashmir last year ordered for constitution of divisional level Prescriptions Audit Committee (PAC) and asked Chief Medical Officers and Medical Superintendents to nominate one Nodal Officer besides constituting similar committees at district level.
DHSK had also asked all the CMOs and Medical Superintendents to nominate one Nodal Officer for each district and sub-district hospital and shall collect photocopies of at least 1 percent of prescriptions by doctors in OPDs on a random basis.
CMOs were also asked to constitute district-level PAC comprising doctors on administrative posts, excluding consultants.
“These prescriptions collected by the Nodal Officer shall be scrutinized by PAC whether the prescriptions are written in capital letters with the name of doctor, signature and registration number besides that generic drugs are prescribed and preference is given to the drugs, which are available free in hospital supplies,” DHSK had directed—(KNO)
