The forces on Friday recovered huge cache of arms, ammunition and other material and also arrested six persons in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
Unnamed official sources said that a search operation was launched in Mirhama village during which huge cache of arms and ammunition including six magazines, four grenades, pistol was recovered.
They said six persons were also arrested in this regards.

In addition to this there were facilities like ECG, sugar testing, oxygen level testing and special menstrual health and hygiene kits were distributed amongst women.
The one day medical camp witnessed an approximate footfall of 467 persons.

SRINAGAR: An avalanche hit a village in Gurez in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Friday, but there was no loss of life, officials said.
Officials said that an avalanche was reported near Wazirithal Tulail village at about 10: 30 a.m. but there was no loss of life. However, they said, the avalanche blocked the river Kishnganga. The incident comes to a couple of days after two polish skiers were killed and 19 other foreigners besides two local guides were rescued after being swept away by an avalanche in Gulmarg.
The avalanches are frequent in higher reaches of the valley during January and February, especially after fresh snowfall. Earlier this week, Kashmir witnessed heavy snowfall.(GNS)
NEW DELHI: Fitch Ratings, on February 3, 2023, said there is no immediate impact on the ratings of Adani entities and their securities following a short-seller report alleging malpractices at Adani group.
In a statement, the rating agency said it expects no material changes to its forecast cash flow. “There are also no near-term significant offshore bond maturities,” it said. (PTI)
Several urban habitations in Jammu are facing a habitual water problem since years. However the crisis has become worse in the last few days thus depriving people of basic drinking water facilities.
In a statement here today National Democratic Party Indian (NDPI) Chief Rajesh Gupta said that the residents of Ward No 8 of Jammu East Assembly segment are worst sufferers. The local residents are very much suffering due to non-availability of water supply in the area for the more than five days. Gupta alleged that the people have no drop of water to cook food, wash cloths and utensils, and even for taking bath.
The NDPI leader strongly condemned the Jal Shakti Department for not showing serious concern towards the problems being faced by general public. Gupta said that it is highly condemnable on the part of the Government to take the issue of water scarcity callously knowing fully that this is the basic necessity constitute a matter of life and death for the people.
He added that the people of Jammu East Assembly segment are decrying for regular water supply and for the last five days the concerned department has deprived the people from drinking water supply & yet again proves the gross failure of the Modi’s so called “HAR GHAR NAL, HAR GHAR JAL” & BJP Govt which is misleading the people by making tall claims of its achievements.

The Centre on Friday assured the Supreme Court that the Collegium’s recommendation for the appointment of five judges in the apex court will be cleared soon.
Attorney General R Venkataramani told a bench of Justices S K Kaul and A S Oka that warrant of appointments of these five names is expected to be issued soon.
The bench expressed displeasure over the delay by the Centre in clearing recommendations for transfer of high court judges, saying “it is a very, very serious issue”.
“Don’t make us take a stand which will be very uncomfortable,” the bench observed.
The apex court, which was hearing a matter related to the Centre’s alleged delay in clearing names recommended by the Collegium for appointment as judges to the Supreme Court and high courts, has posted it for further hearing on February 13
The Collegium on December 13 last year recommended five judges for elevation to the apex court — Rajasthan High Court Chief Justice Pankaj Mithal, Patna High Court Chief Justice Sanjay Karol, Manipur High Court Chief Justice P V Sanjay Kumar,, Patna High Court judge Ahsanuddin Amanullah and Allahabad High Court judge Manoj Misra.
The Ruling BJP in Uttar Pradesh has retained four seats of the state legislative council while one was won by an Independent in the biennial polls held for five seats of three teachers and two graduate constituencies held on January 30.
Counting of votes had started on Thursday morning while the results were declared late in the night.
The principal Opposition Samajwadi Party contested all the five seats but could not win a single one. The party, which has nine members in the 100-member legislative council, had required just one more seat to get the post of leader of the Opposition, but failed to do so.
However, the picture of the council remained the same after the results of the 5 seats with ruling BJP holding the 2/3 rd majority with 75 seats. BSP, Apna Dal (S), NISHAD Party and Jansatta Party have one seat each while Teachers group, Independent Group and Independent have two each. There was no Congress or RLD member in the Upper House.
UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath congratulated the winning candidates in the Council elections.
Taking to Twitter, the CM wrote: “The victory of the BJP candidates in the elections to the Upper House of the State Legislature testifies immense public faith in the double engine government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”

The biennial polls were held for Gorakhpur-Faizabad graduate constituency, Kanpur graduate constituency, Bareilly-Moradabad graduate constituency, Allahabad and Jhansi teacher constituency and Kanpur teacher constituency.
BJP candidate Jaipal Singh has registered his third consecutive victory with a huge margin in Bareilly-Moradabad graduate seat. He defeated Shiv Pratap Singh of SP by 51257 votes. This is the eighth victory of the invincible BJP on the seat since 1986.
BJP candidate Arun Pathak won the Kanpur graduate seat for the third time. He defeated Kamlesh Yadav of Samajwadi Party by 53185 votes.
BJP’s Devendra Pratap has created a record by winning for the fourth time the Gorakhpur graduate seat. Devendra Pratap got a total of 51,699 votes while runner’s up SP’s Karunakanth received 34244 votes.
BJP’s Babulal Tiwari won the Allahabad-Jhansi MLC seat.BJP candidate defeated his rival Suresh Kumar Tripathi by 1,403 votes.
Independent candidate Raj Bahadur Singh Chandel has won the Kanpur teachers seat. He was elected from the seat and presently chairman of the question committee of the council.
The Supreme Court on has issued guidelines to avoid delay in release of the undertrial prisoners who have been ordered to be released on bail.
A bench of Justice Sanjhay Kishan Kaul and Justice Abhay S Oka said, “If the accused is not released within a period of seven days from the date of grant of bail, it would be the duty of the superintendent of jail to inform the secretary, DLSA (District Legal Services Authority) who may depute a para legal volunteer or jail visiting advocate to interact with the prisoner and assist the prisoner in all ways possible for his release.”
The apex court said that the secretary, DLSA, with a view to find out the economic condition of the accused, may take help of the probation officers or the para legal volunteers to prepare a report on the socio-economic conditions of the inmate “which may be placed before the concerned court with a request to relax the condition (s) of bail/surety”.
The court said that the undertrials should not languish in jail even after getting bail just because they could not fulfil the conditions stipulated in the bail order.
The top court also said that the trial court can consider granting temporary bail till a prisoner, who is not financially sound, can furnish bond or sureties.
The top court said that the court which grants bail to an undertrial prisoner/convict would be required to send a soft copy of the bail order by e-mail to the prisoner through the Jail Superintendent on the same day or the next day. The Jail Superintendent would be required to enter the date of grant of bail in the e-prisons software,.
In cases where the undertrial or convict requests that he can furnish bail bond or sureties once released, then in an appropriate case, the court may consider granting temporary bail for a specified period to the accused so that he can furnish bail bond or sureties, the court said.
The top court further underlined that if the bail bonds are not furnished within one month from the date of grant bail, the concerned court may suo moto take up the case and consider whether the conditions of bail require modification/ relaxation.
“One of the reasons which delays the release of the accused/ convict is the insistence upon local surety. It is suggested that in such cases, the courts may not impose the condition of local surety,” the court said.

The court guidelines came while dealing with the matter related to policy strategy for grant of bail. Advocate Gaurav Agrawale who is assisting the court as amicus curiae in the matter has drawn the attention on various issues relating to prisoners who continue to be in custody despite having been granted the benefit of bail on account of their inability to fulfil the conditions.
One of the main reasons flagged was that the accused are in jail despite the grant of bail is that they may be an accused in multiple cases and is apparently not willing to furnish bail bonds until he is given bail in all the cases as undertrial custody will be counted in all the cases.
The court has listed the matter for further hearing on March 28 2023.
The Supreme Court on Friday issued notice on petitions challenging the Centre’s decision to ban BBC documentary on 2002 Gujarat riots. The apex court declined to pass an interim order, but directed the Centre to place before it the original record of decision taken and scheduled the next hearing in April.
A bench comprising Justices Sanjiv Khanna and M.M. Sundresh directed that the Centre should produce the original records in connection with its order on the documentary on the next date of hearing in April.
The apex court was hearing a petition filed by journalist N. Ram, advocate Prashant Bhushan and Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra, and another petition filed by advocate M.L. Sharma.
Senior advocate C.U. Singh, representing N. Ram and others, submitted that it was a case where the Centre invoked the emergency powers under the IT Rules to block the documentary. The bench asked counsel, “Why should you not go to the high court first?”
Singh replied that the apex court had transferred to itself the petitions pending in the high court challenging the IT Rules and urged the bench to grant interim relief in the matter. The bench said it is not considering that aspect at the present juncture and orally observed that people have been accessing the documentary.
The apex court said it can’t pass interim directions without hearing what the government has to say. After hearing submissions, the bench issued notice in the matter.
The plea filed by Sharma contended that the BBC documentary on Gujarat riots recorded and was released for public view, however due to fear of truth the documentary has been banned from viewership in India by any means under rule 16 of IT Act 2021.
Sharma’s plea sought a direction for quashing of the January 21 order under the IT Act being illegal, mala fide and arbitrary, unconstitutional and void ab-initio and ultra vires to the Constitution of India.
The documentary titled ‘India: The Modi Question’ has been banned on social media and online channels, but some students have screened it on campuses of various universities across the country.
Sharma’s plea contended that the BBC documentary has reflected true facts with original recording of the victims of riot 2002 as well as other concerned persons involved in the scenario of riot, and it can be used for judicial justice.
A separate petition has been filed by journalist N. Ram, Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra, and advocate Prashant Bhushan against taking down their tweets with links of the documentary.
