Selfish Interests, Desire For Dominance Root Cause Of Global Conflicts: Bhagwat

0

Selfish interests and the desire for dominance were the root cause of conflicts in the world, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat said on Friday, asserting that lasting peace can only be achieved through unity, discipline and adherence to dharma.

Addressing a gathering in Nagpur, Bhagwat said that for 2,000 years the world has experimented with various ideas to resolve conflicts with little success.

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief was speaking at the gathering after laying the foundation stone for the Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s office in the city.

Bhagwat said that India’s ancient wisdom teaches that “all are connected and one”, and called for a shift from conflict to harmony and cooperation.

He further noted that even modern science is gradually moving towards this understanding.

The RSS chief noted that selfish interests and the desire for dominance were the root cause of conflicts in the world, and said lasting peace can only be achieved through unity, discipline and adherence to dharma.

Highlighting the importance of conduct, Bhagwat said dharma cannot remain confined to scriptures, but must be reflected in people’s behaviour.

Discipline and adherence to moral values require sustained practice and often involve personal hardship, he said.

While India believes in humanity, others believe in the struggle for existence and survival of the fittest, he said, reiterating that the world needs harmony, not conflict

Indian Vessel ‘Jag Laadki’ Carrying Over 80,000 MT Crude Oil Reaches Gujarat’s Mundra Port

Indian-flagged tanker ‘Jag Laadki’, carrying around 80,886 metric tonnes (MT) of crude oil, arrived at Mundra Port in Gujarat on Wednesday amid the West Asia conflict, officials said.

A day earlier, LPG carrier ‘Nanda Devi’ arrived at Vadinar port in Gujarat’s Devbhumi Dwarka district, carrying 46,500 metric tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) navigating through the Strait of Hormuz. On Monday, another vessel – ‘Shivalik’ – carrying LPG docked at Mundra Port.

Adani Ports, which operates Mundra Port, said in a statement that the crude oil carried by Jag Laadki was sourced from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and loaded at Fujairah Port there.

“Measuring 274.19 metres in length overall and 50.04 metres in beam, the tanker boasts a deadweight tonnage of approximately 164,716 tonnes and a gross tonnage of about 84,735 tonnes,” it said.

The tanker’s arrival at the Mundra Port underscores the facility’s critical role in handling substantial crude imports, it said.

“This delivery supports major refinery relies on such shipments to maintain operations and bolster India’s energy security during supply disruptions in the region,” Adani Ports added.

The port provided the safe berthing of the vessel and maritime coordination in safeguarding vital energy lifelines of India, it said.

Fujairah Port in UAE faced drone and missile attacks during the ongoing Israel-US and Iran war.

India imports about 88 per cent of its crude oil, 50 per cent of natural gas and 60 per cent of LPG needs. Before the US-Israel strikes on Iran on February 28 and Tehran’s retaliation, more than half of India’s crude imports, about 30 per cent of gas and 85-90 per cent of LPG imports came from Middle East countries such as Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

The conflict has led to a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, the main transit route for Gulf energy supplies. While India has partly offset crude supply disruptions by sourcing oil from countries including Russia, gas supplies have been curtailed to industrial users and LPG availability to commercial establishments such as hotels and restaurants has been reduced. Kashmiri Pandits Resolve To Celebrate ‘Navreh’ In Kashmir From Next Year

Kashmiri Pandits have renewed their resolve to celebrate Navreh, the first day of the New Year according to the Kashmiri Hindu calendar, in the Valley from next year, terming it a symbolic step towards reconnecting with their ancestral homeland, community members said.

Navreh, which is celebrated by Kashmiri Pandits on the first day of the month of Chaitra, is traditionally dedicated to Goddess Sharika and marks the beginning of a new year in the Saptarshi calendar. The festival, which will be celebrated on March 19 this year, holds immense religious and cultural significance for the community.

“The Navreh Mahotsav is a poignant homecoming movement. The festival would be observed not only in Jammu, but in several cities across the country and abroad, reflecting widespread participation of the community,” Kashi Nath Pandita, scholar and convenor of the Navreh Mahotsav Aayojan Samiti-2026, told reporters here.

Pandita, who was awarded the Padma Shri in 2017 for his contributions in the fields of literature and education, said, “The members of the displaced community have collectively reaffirmed their resolve to return and celebrate Navreh in their ancestral birthplace in Kashmir next year.” “Navreh marks the beginning of the new year and carries deep astronomical and cultural significance. The festival traditionally begins with early morning rituals, including ‘pooja’ and ‘darshan’ of the Navreh Thali, symbolising prosperity, knowledge and continuity of life,” he said.

The second day of the celebrations, March 20, will be observed as Shaurya Divas to commemorate the valour and leadership of the 8th-century Karkota monarch of the Kashmir region, Samrat Lalitaditya.

“The concluding Mahotsav will be held at the Abhinav Theatre here, featuring cultural performances, intellectual discourses and tributes to historical icons,” Panditia said.

Co-convenor of Navreh Mahotsav Aayojan Samiti-2026, Brij Lal Bhat, said the festival symbolises the community’s aspiration to reconnect with its roots.

Bhat, a recipient of the Padma Shri award this year in the Unsung Heroes category, also called for incorporating the contributions of Acharya Shreya Bhat and Samrat Lalitaditya into the academic curriculum of the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education.

The chairman of the Sanjeevani Sharda Kendra (SSK) and chief spokesperson of the Navreh Mahotsav Aayojan Samiti, M K Bharat, said that according to the Hindu calendar, Amavasya and Chaitra Shukla Pratipada fall on the same day this year, resulting in the confluence of Tyag Divas and Sankalp Divas and reducing the three-day festival to two days.

Bharat also invited all sections of society to participate in the celebrations, describing the festival as a vibrant expression of cultural resurgence, bridging the past with the future.

The Navreh Mahotsav has been organised annually since 2021, and this year marks its sixth edition, Bharat said.

Celebrating the festival in exile for decades after migrating from the Valley in the early 1990s, Kashmiri Pandits have been observing the festival in Jammu and elsewhere while simultaneously expressing a desire to return to the Valley. (Agencies)

The Jammu and Kashmir Police have issued a public notice seeking information, video recordings, and photographs from people who attended a marriage function where an assassination attempt was made on National Conference president Farooq Abdullah here.

Police on Sunday constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the recent incident of firing at Abdullah at a wedding function in the Greater Kailash area here on Wednesday.

According to the notice issued by the Range Headquarters Jammu–Samba–Kathua, DIG Shiv Kumar Sharma appealed to all guests present at the function, members of the public, or anyone possessing digital evidence or information related to the incident to share it with the investigating agency.

“Contact numbers provided for the purpose include 9419150173, 9419131379, and 9419186210,” he said.

The DIG said that the incident occurred on March 11 during a wedding at Royal Park, Greater Kailash in Jammu. Police Station Gangyal has registered an FIR in connection with the case, and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to probe the matter.

He emphasised that public cooperation would significantly assist the SIT in collecting crucial evidence and ensuring a transparent investigation.

Jammu Zone Inspector General of Police (IGP) Bhim Sen Tuti on Sunday ordered the setting up of the SIT under the supervision of the deputy inspector general of police, Jammu–Samba–Kathua Range, considering the “seriousness and sensitivity” of the case.

Last Wednesday night, Abdullah, the former chief minister, had a miraculous escape when a gunman opened fire on him from behind while he was leaving a marriage function at the Royal Park banquet hall in the Greater Kailash area. The 63-year-old accused, identified as Kamal Singh, was overpowered and arrested on the spot. A revolver used in the crime was recovered from his possession.

Lok Sabha Revokes Suspension of Eight Opposition MPs

The Lok Sabha on Tuesday revoked with immediate effect the suspension of eight opposition Members of Parliament who had been barred from attending the House since February 3 for alleged “unruly” behaviour during the ongoing Budget Session of Parliament.

Announcing the decision, Om Birla, Speaker of the Lok Sabha, stressed that members must maintain decorum inside the House and within the Parliament complex. He specifically directed that no placards, posters, photographs or AI-generated images should be displayed during proceedings.

The move came after senior K. Suresh of the Indian National Congress urged the House to reconsider the suspension. Suresh said the opposition regretted the incident and assured cooperation to ensure smooth functioning of Parliament.

Following submissions from opposition leaders, Kiren Rijiju, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, said there was a need to draw a “Laxman Rekha” to maintain discipline and ensure orderly conduct in the House — a view supported by both treasury and opposition benches.

Rijiju subsequently moved a motion seeking revocation of the suspension of seven Congress MPs and one Communist Party of India (Marxist) member, which was adopted by a voice vote.

The MPs whose suspension was revoked include Gurjeet Singh Aujla, Hibi Eden, C. Kiran Kumar Reddy, Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Manickam Tagore, Prashant Padole, Dean Kuriakose of the Congress, and S. Venkatesan of the CPI(M).

The eight MPs had been suspended on February 3 after the House adopted a resolution accusing them of unruly behaviour during the first half of the Budget session. Their suspension was originally scheduled to remain in effect until the end of the session on April 2.

During the discussion, Dharmendra Yadav of the Samajwadi Party supported the move to revoke the suspension and assured that opposition members would maintain the dignity of the House. However, he also urged ruling alliance members to behave responsibly, mentioning Nishikant Dubey of the Bharatiya Janata Party and asking him to “correct himself”.

Dubey strongly rejected the remarks, stating that during his 17-year parliamentary career he had never done anything to lower the dignity of the House and demanded an apology from the Samajwadi Party member.

Supriya Sule of the Nationalist Congress Party said both ruling and opposition members must make efforts to ensure the House functions smoothly. She emphasised that personal comments should be avoided and mutual respect between treasury benches and opposition should be maintained.

Similarly, Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Union minister and leader of the Janata Dal (United), said cooperation from both sides was necessary for smooth functioning of Parliament.

Rijiju reiterated that members had been elected by the people to participate in debates and legislative work, not to disrupt proceedings. Suresh also assured the House that since Monday the opposition had refrained from displaying placards or banners and would continue cooperating to ensure orderly proceedings.
