The program aims to bolster community engagement in water conservation efforts.

“India has only four percent of the world’s freshwater resources, and many regions are grappling with severe water crises,” Modi remarked. He also referenced recent unprecedented rainfall events in various parts of the country, illustrating the urgent need for improved water management practices.

Neeraj Chopra Qualifies for Diamond League Finale Despite Injury Struggles

0

New Delhi, September 6, 2024 – Neeraj Chopra, India’s acclaimed javelin thrower and two-time Olympic medalist, has secured his place in the Diamond League season finale after finishing fourth in the overall standings. The finale is set to take place on September 13 and 14 in Brussels.

Chopra accumulated 14 points from two second-place finishes in the Diamond League’s one-day meets in Doha and Lausanne. He did not compete in the final series meet in Zurich on Thursday. Despite his absence from Zurich, Chopra’s consistent performance throughout the season ensured his spot in the prestigious finale.

In the overall standings, Chopra is two points behind Czechia’s Jakub Vadlejch. Grenada’s Anderson Peters leads the standings with 29 points, while Germany’s Julian Weber is in second place with 21 points. Peters had narrowly edged out Weber in Zurich.

The 26-year-old Chopra, who clinched gold at the Tokyo 2021 Olympics and silver at the Paris 2024 Olympics, has been contending with a persistent groin injury this season. This injury has impeded his efforts to achieve the coveted 90-meter mark. Chopra finished second in the Lausanne leg, where Peters threw 90.61 meters, and was bested by Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem’s 92.97 meters in Paris.

Chopra has expressed his intention to focus on recovery and technical improvements in the coming months. “My first goal is to get my groin completely healed and improve my technique to throw farther again,” he said last month.

In previous Diamond League seasons, Chopra won the Lausanne leg in 2022 and 2023 and finished second behind Vadlejch in the Eugene, USA finale last year. The Diamond League season finale awards the champion with a prestigious “Diamond Trophy,” USD 30,000 in prize money, and a wild card entry for the World Athletics Championships.

The Brussels finale will mark the conclusion of Chopra’s season as he aims to end on a high note.

Supreme Court Seeks Response from Chanda Kochhar and Deepak Kochhar on Plea Against Arrest Ruling

0

New Delhi, September 6, 2024 – The Supreme Court of India today sought responses from Chanda Kochhar, former Managing Director and CEO of ICICI Bank, and her husband Deepak Kochhar in relation to a plea challenging a Bombay High Court decision that declared their arrest as “illegal.”

The Supreme Court bench, comprising Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Sanjay Kumar, issued notices to the Kochhars and requested their replies on the appeal filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). This appeal contests the High Court’s February 6 ruling, which had deemed their arrest as unlawful. The ruling also affirmed a January 2023 interim order from a different bench that had granted bail to the Kochhars shortly after their arrest.

The Kochhars were detained by the CBI on December 23, 2022, in connection with the ongoing investigation into the Videocon-ICICI Bank loan case. The case centers around allegations of irregularities in a loan granted by ICICI Bank to the Videocon Group, and accusations of corruption involving the Kochhars.

The Supreme Court’s move to seek responses from the Kochhars marks a significant development in this high-profile case, reflecting the continued scrutiny and legal proceedings surrounding the allegations.

Sajad Lone Pledges to Restore Statehood and Article 370 in New Manifesto

0

Sajad Lone, President of the People’s Conference (PC), unveiled his party’s manifesto today, promising a vigorous campaign for the restoration of Statehood and Article 370, alongside efforts to resolve the ongoing Jammu and Kashmir issue.

In his address, Lone outlined his party’s key commitments, including the repeal of contentious laws such as the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), Public Safety Act (PSA), and the Enemy Agents Ordinance. The PC also pledged to work towards the dignified return of Kashmiri Pandits, should they come to power.

Lone emphasized that while a resolution on Article 370 could be passed in the J&K Assembly, the actual restoration of the special status would require action from Parliament. He also mentioned that some aspects of Article 35A could potentially be reinstated at the Assembly level if Statehood is restored, drawing a parallel to similar actions taken by Himachal Pradesh.

“We need to collectively agitate for the restoration of Article 370,” Lone asserted. He argued that the special status has been mischaracterized, suggesting that such federal arrangements are common worldwide and that a renewed focus on Article 370 is essential for achieving a comprehensive federal solution.

Addressing his own political strategy, Lone indicated that he might contest elections from two constituencies, Handwara and Kupwara, in response to pressure from local supporters.

In a rebuttal to BJP National General Secretary Ram Madhav’s recent remarks, Lone accused Madhav of making statements designed to benefit the National Conference (NC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). “Madhav is not naive; he knows the BJP’s image among the majority Muslim population here,” Lone said. “His statements are intended to maintain the status quo and serve the interests of the NC and PDP. I would even offer him Rs 1 lakh to continue making such remarks against me daily if it would expose the truth.”

Lone criticized the BJP’s claims and challenged them to take concrete actions if they believe there are issues with the current political landscape.

BJP Promises Nationalist Government in Jammu and Kashmir; Criticizes NC, PDP for Campaigning with Former Militants

0

BJP National General Secretary Ram Madhav today delivered a fervent speech at an election rally in Nowshera, asserting that the upcoming government in Jammu and Kashmir will be led by “nationalist people” rather than “anti-nationals.” Madhav’s comments marked a strong criticism of the National Conference (NC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), accusing them of collaborating with former militants and separatist sympathizers in their electoral campaigns.

In his address, Madhav emphasized the BJP’s achievements over the past five years, including the abrogation of Article 370, which he claimed has brought peace, progress, and development to the region. He vowed that the BJP would emerge as the single largest party in the forthcoming elections, projecting a victory of 35 seats in Jammu and significant success in Kashmir.

Madhav condemned the NC and PDP for allegedly using former militants and separatist family members in their campaigns. He warned of the risks posed by these groups, recalling past instances where separatist rhetoric was prevalent. “Let us make it clear that the next Government, which will be formed here, will be of nationalist people, not anti-nationals,” he stated. “There will be no Government led by the Muftis and Abdullahs in this UT.”

The BJP leader expressed concerns about the potential resurgence of separatist sentiment, urging voters to support the BJP to prevent such a scenario. He criticized the NC and PDP for wanting to reinstate Article 370, which he argued would reverse the progress made in Jammu and Kashmir.

Madhav also took aim at the Congress party, accusing it of making false promises regarding statehood. He reiterated that the restoration of statehood would be accomplished solely under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, dismissing the Congress’s claims as insincere.

Addressing the issue of terrorism, Madhav accused certain elements of attempting to revive terrorism in Jammu. He reassured the public of the government’s commitment to neutralizing any threats posed by terrorists.

Madhav’s speech reflects the BJP’s strategic focus on presenting itself as the champion of nationalist values and development in Jammu and Kashmir, while starkly contrasting itself with its political rivals.

BJP Demands Apology from Rahul Gandhi Over Remarks on Dogra Rulers and Two-Nation Theory

0

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has issued a strong demand for an unconditional apology from Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, accusing him of insulting the former Dogra rulers of Jammu and Kashmir and promoting the ‘Two Nation Theory.’ The party has warned of potential agitation if their demands are not met.

Press Conference Highlights

At a press conference held this evening, BJP national spokesperson Shazia Ilmi and J&K BJP vice-president Sham Lal Sharma addressed the media, criticizing Gandhi’s recent comments. Sharma accused Gandhi of defaming the Dogra rulers and the Dogra community, asserting that his remarks are unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

“Rahul Gandhi has insulted the Dogra rulers of Jammu and Kashmir, which is a serious offense to the Dogra community,” Sharma stated. He highlighted the historical significance of the Dogra rulers, noting their role in integrating Jammu and Kashmir into India and maintaining communal harmony despite the region’s Muslim majority.

Shazia Ilmi criticized Gandhi for his claim that the Congress-National Conference (NC) alliance would restore the Statehood of Jammu and Kashmir, arguing that only the Central Government has the authority to grant Statehood. “Rahul Gandhi is misleading the people. The Government of India has already committed to restoring Statehood to J&K,” Ilmi said.

Questioning Congress-NC Alliance

The BJP leaders also questioned Rahul Gandhi’s stance on the NC manifesto, particularly its proposal to rename historic sites. Sharma condemned Gandhi for aligning with Congress and allegedly endorsing changes to significant cultural sites, such as renaming Hari Parbat and Shankaracharya Parbat.

Ilmi further criticized Gandhi’s comments on reservation policies, accusing his family of opposing such measures historically. “Rahul should be aware that his father and grandfather were opposed to reservations. Rajeev Gandhi neglected the Mandal Commission for ten years, and his grandmother ensured Jagjeevan Ram did not become Prime Minister,” Ilmi pointed out.

Calls for Apology and Response

Lt Gen (retd) Rakesh Sharma, another BJP spokesperson, echoed the demand for an apology, stating, “Rahul Gandhi consistently attacks our culture and identity whenever he visits Jammu and Kashmir. His comments are an insult to the Dogra rulers and the Dogra community as a whole.”

The BJP has made it clear that if Rahul Gandhi does not issue an unconditional apology, they will take further action and intensify their response against the Congress-NC alliance.

Conclusion

The BJP’s condemnation of Rahul Gandhi’s remarks underscores the ongoing political tensions in Jammu and Kashmir. The party’s demands for an apology reflect the broader contest over regional identity and historical narratives in the context of current political alliances and electoral strategies.
