National Conference President Farooq Abdullah Urges Unity Against BJP in Jammu and Kashmir

National Conference (NC) President Farooq Abdullah called for a united front among the people of Jammu and Kashmir to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its supporters in the upcoming elections. Abdullah made these remarks during an election rally in Anantnag, which was also attended by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge.

Alliance for J&K’s Identity

Addressing the crowd, Abdullah emphasized the importance of the NC-Congress alliance in preserving the identity of Jammu and Kashmir. He criticized the BJP for allegedly releasing individuals from jail to influence the election, suggesting that their intent was to use these individuals to suppress the Muslim community. “We have to defeat the flower (BJP’s symbol) and others who have been released from jail. For God’s sake, tell me, why have they been released? They (BJP) want to use these people to oppress Muslims. Unfortunately, they do not realize that there is a special place for them in hell,” he said.

Critique of Prime Minister Modi

Abdullah accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of engaging in divisive politics that undermines national unity. He condemned Modi’s statements, which he claimed spread hatred and division. “I have never heard a Prime Minister making such a speech. He spreads hatred when he says the Mangalsutra of Hindu women will be taken away. Then he says Muslims produce more children. What is it that keeps India together? It is equality and brotherhood. As long as this flower (BJP symbol) is in India, the country will not be strengthened. The country will suffer due to the fissures created by them,” Abdullah asserted.

Significance of the Alliance

Highlighting the challenges of forming an alliance with Congress, Abdullah acknowledged the difficulty of the decision but deemed it necessary for the protection of Jammu and Kashmir’s identity. He framed the election as more than just a political contest; it is a matter of survival and dignity for the region’s people. “Today the question is whether people of Jammu and Kashmir can live with honor and dignity,” Abdullah said.

Concerns Over Governance and Employment

Abdullah criticized the current governance structure, alleging that many administrative positions are occupied by individuals from outside the region. He expressed concerns over local job opportunities and the impact of external administrators on regional needs. “There are a lot of proxies of the BJP here who want us to remain slaves. Today, the question is not who will form the government or about development. The question is whether we will survive or not. Our youngsters are not getting jobs; all are coming from outside. All DCs and SPs are from outside,” he stated.

Shimla — Tensions erupted in Shimla’s Sanjauli area on Wednesday as protestors demanding the demolition of an illegal portion of a mosque clashed with security forces. The demonstrators, who had gathered in large numbers, defied prohibitory orders and police warnings, leading to a lathi-charge and the use of water cannons by the authorities.

Protest Details and Police Action

Hundreds of protestors, led by various Hindu groups, gathered at Sabzi Mandi Dhalli before marching towards Sanjauli. The crowd raised slogans such as “Jai Shri Ram” and “Hindu Ekta Zindabad” and breached police barricades near the Dhalli tunnel. As they proceeded towards the mosque, they broke through a second barricade, prompting police to take action.

In response, the police used batons and water cannons to disperse the crowd. Several protestors, including Kamal Gautam, the secretary of Hindu Jagran Manch, were detained. Despite these measures, the protestors continued to raise slogans and refused to leave the area.

Escalation and Injuries

Singh noted that similar disputes involve thousands of structures and emphasized the need for prompt legal resolution.

Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur urged protestors to adhere to prohibitory orders, cautioning that the sensitive nature of the mosque issue should be handled with care to prevent broader unrest.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu emphasized that the issue should not be politicized and highlighted the government’s commitment to maintaining law and order. Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera responded to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s criticism by questioning why discussions about constitutional values are met with hostility from the ruling party. “We are talking about upholding the Constitution of India. How is that anti-national? The BJP’s repeated objections to such discussions reflect their disregard for constitutional principles,” Khera stated.

Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh Blames Congress for Development Setbacks in Billawar-Basohli Region

Billawar – Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh today criticized the Congress Party for allegedly impeding the development of the Billawar-Basohli region and for denying it district status. His comments came during a public rally organized as part of the “Har-Ghar-BJP, Door-to-Door” campaign, where he voiced strong support for the BJP nominee, Satish Sharma.

Addressing the media after the rally, Dr. Singh accused the Congress of neglecting the Billawar-Basohli region over the past decade. He claimed that local legislators had been more focused on shifting political affiliations rather than addressing developmental needs. “The region has suffered due to a lack of attention from its representatives, who were preoccupied with party-hopping instead of working for local progress,” Dr. Singh stated.

He further criticized Congress MLAs for prioritizing their political gains over the development of their constituencies. “These MLAs were more concerned with pleasing their Kashmir-centric leaders to secure personal benefits rather than advocating for their own regions. This approach undermined the interests of Billawar and Basohli,” he added.

Dr. Singh also accused the Congress Party of obstructing the elevation of Billawar and Basohli to district status. He recalled that when the District Reorganisation Committee was formed, it was under Congress rule, and despite BJP’s strong advocacy for a separate district status for these regions, Congress chose to appease their Kashmir-centric masters. “The Congress-led government, in its pursuit of appeasement, failed to recognize the needs of this region while smaller districts were created elsewhere,” he said.

Looking ahead, Dr. Singh pledged that a BJP-led government would prioritize granting district status to Billawar and Basohli. “One of our first decisions, once we are in power, will be to grant district status to these areas. This has been a long-standing commitment of the BJP,” he affirmed. He noted that the BJP already treats the region as a distinct entity within its organizational structure.

Highlighting recent achievements, Dr. Singh credited the Modi Government for the development seen in the region over the past five years, particularly following the abrogation of Article 370. “During this period, Basohli’s traditional arts, such as Basohli paintings and shawls, have gained GI tags. Additionally, we’ve seen significant infrastructure improvements, including new roadways and the establishment of degree colleges,” he said.

Dr. Singh urged voters to support the BJP to ensure continued progress. “For the Billawar-Basohli region to receive its due share of development, it is essential to elect a BJP MLA who can represent the region’s interests effectively. With a unified BJP presence—at the MLA, MP, and local body levels—guided by the principles of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we can guarantee the region’s growth and play a pivotal role in Jammu and Kashmir’s development,” he concluded.

Bhaderwah Sep 10 : Three days ancient Ancient Mela Patt in concluded in JK’s Bhaderwah with huge participation
concluded here with thousands of people converging on last day of the festival at Mohalla Khakhal in Jammu and Kashmir’s Bhaderwah to witness the annual cultural event depicting rich and unique Nag Culture.

Beside Nag devotees and cultural enthusiasts from different walks of life from across Jamm and Kashmir, the concluding ceremony was attended by Chairman Organizing Committee Advocate Naresh Kumar Gupta, Tehsildar Bhaderwah Kamalpreet Singh and SDPO Wasim Hamdani.

The mela is celebrated every year to commemorate the historic meeting between Emperor Akbar and Raja Nagpal of Bhaderwah in 16th century at Delhi.

The mela, devoted to Lord Vasuki Naag, the presiding deity of Bhaderwah valley, is being celebrated from Nag Panchmi every year.

The mela was organized on the conclusion of the Kailash Yatra and people irrespective of caste, colour and creed participated and witnessed the Mela.

It is pertinent to mention that this Mela was first initiated by Raja Nagpal in 16th century as the ruler of the small principality called the then Bhaderkashi which is now known as Bhaderwah.

Nag devotees have been demanding that the unique cultural event which is a symbol of ancient Nag culture should be given Heritage status and be included in the annual tourism map.

“Despite being centuries old, Nag culture is perhaps the only culture of Jammu and Kashmir which is still being practiced in it’s original form but despite all it’s uniqueness and rich history, tourism department and successive governments never bothered to present it to the outer world to attract tourists,” said locals of the area.

“If clubbed together, Kailash Yatra and Mela Patt can become a major attraction for ancient cultural lovers and history scholars from all over the world as the ancient cultular still remains to be fully explored. Hope government will take some positive steps in immidiate future,” they added.

Meanwhile Chairman Organizing Committee (Dashnan) Advocate Naresh Kumar Gupta expressed his gratitude to all local committees, JK Dharmarth Trust, Administration, Police and organizing committee members for their outstanding support to make this event a mega success.

He said that this more than 600 years old festival is celebrated without any untoward or ugly incident, which clearly shows communal harmony of this area and respect for Raja Nag Pal irrespective of religion.

“We seek blessings of Vasuki Nag Ji Maharaj for the betterment of one and all,” Gupta added, saying that government should make it a heritage destination for ancient culture lovers.

Foolproof security arrangements were made by the local administration to conduct the hassle free program. On the occasion, people were seen dancing on the tunes of ancient traditional folk dance called Dheku which is a regular feature during the Mela.
