In a tragic incident ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled election rally in Doda, two Army soldiers, including a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO), were martyred, and two others were injured during an encounter with terrorists in the Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir.

The confrontation erupted when a joint security team, comprising Army personnel and local police, launched a cordon-and-search operation following a tip-off. The encounter took place in the Pingnad Naidgham area, falling under the jurisdiction of the Chatroo police station in Kishtwar district.

The soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice were identified as Naib Subedar Vipan Kumar, a resident of Patrara village in the Sunderbani area of Rajouri district, and Sepoy Arvind Singh, hailing from Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh. Two other soldiers, Sepoy Musadiq Shafiq and Sepoy Shail Thakur, were injured and are currently receiving treatment.

Officials stated that the gunfight broke out around 3:30 pm when the security forces, during their search operation, came under heavy fire from the terrorists hiding in the area. One soldier succumbed to injuries caused by a grenade explosion, while the other was fatally wounded by a bullet to the head.

The injured personnel were swiftly evacuated and airlifted to an Army hospital after receiving preliminary treatment at a local facility.

The Army’s White Knight Corps confirmed the loss of the two soldiers. In a statement, they said, “GOC White Knight Corps and all ranks salute the supreme sacrifice of the bravehearts; offer deepest condolences to the families.”

This tragic incident comes just two days after the Army successfully neutralized two Pakistani terrorists linked to the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terror outfit in a separate encounter in the Basantgarh region of Udhampur district.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to address an election rally in Doda on September 14, a neighboring district to Kishtwar. Despite the heightened security concerns, the rally is expected to go ahead as planned.

In a deeply sacred and symbolic event, the J&K Dharmarth Trust today celebrated the Punar Sthapana (reinstallation) of Shree Nandi Ji at the historic Shree Ranbireshwar Temple in Jammu. The ceremony marked a momentous occasion for the devotees and the temple’s heritage, reflecting the Trust’s ongoing commitment to preserving and restoring important cultural and religious landmarks.

The reinstallation ceremony was honored by the presence of prominent dignitaries including Vikramaditya Singh, former Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) and scion of the Dogra Royal Family; Martand Singh and Ranvijay Singh, Trustees of the J&K Dharmarth Trust; and other esteemed Council Members including Dr. Vishwa Murti Shastri, S M Sahni (former Director of Tourism, Jammu), Vishal Abrol, Brig (Retd) R S Langeh (Trust President), and Ashok Kumar Sharma (IPS Retd, Secretary of the Trust).

The auspicious event began with a traditional Hawan Yagya, followed by the reinstallation of Shree Nandi Ji with elaborate rituals. The ceremony was performed under the guidance of Vikramaditya Singh, who led the rituals with reverence and dedication. The rituals culminated in a grand Aarti dedicated to Lord Shiva and Maa Parvati, held in the main temple complex.

Students from the Shri Ranbir Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya Birpur, managed by the J&K Dharmarth Trust, actively participated in the event, seeking blessings and contributing to the celebrations.

A significant highlight of the ceremony was the special mention of Chairman Trustee Dr. Karan Singh’s efforts. Dr. Singh had arranged for an exact replica of the earlier Nandi Ji from Tamil Nadu to ensure the preservation of the temple’s heritage.

In his address to the gathering, Vikramaditya Singh expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved in the restoration project. He particularly acknowledged the contributions of Subash Chander, a devoted follower of Lord Shiva, whose efforts were instrumental in the reinstallation of Shree Nandi Ji.

Vikramaditya Singh also took the opportunity to update attendees on the Trust’s recent restoration initiatives. He spoke about the successful renovation of the ancient Gauri Shankar Temple in Pahalgam and the ongoing work at the Shiv Temple in Gulmarg, which had suffered significant damage due to an electrical short circuit. Additionally, he highlighted the completion of the restoration of the Rani Samadhis in Jammu city.

The ceremony concluded with awards and recognitions. Vikramaditya Singh presented felicitations to Subash Chander and Ar Vishal Abrol for their exceptional contributions to the temple’s restoration. Martand Singh and Ranvijay Singh also honored the students of Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan for their participation and dedication to the sacred event.

The successful reinstallation of Shree Nandi Ji represents not only a significant milestone for the J&K Dharmarth Trust but also a reaffirmation of the community’s commitment to preserving its rich cultural and spiritual heritage.
