India Set to Face China in Blockbuster Women’s Asian Champions Trophy Clash

0

Rajgir (Bihar), Nov 15: Defending champions India will face their sternest test of the Women’s Asian Champions Trophy when they take on China — the reigning Olympic silver medallists — in a high-stakes match on Saturday. Both teams are undefeated in the tournament so far, having won all their group-stage matches.

With three wins from as many games, China leads the points table, edging out India by a superior goal difference21 goals to India’s 18. This sets the stage for an exciting showdown as both sides seek to assert their dominance in the six-team round-robin tournament, where the top four teams will advance to the semifinals.

The match will be a chance for India to settle scores with China, who have triumphed in both of their most recent encounters in the 2023-24 FIH Pro League earlier this year, defeating India on both occasions.

India’s Form: A High Scoring Affair

India has been in superb form so far in the tournament, scoring 20 goals in their three matches. Their most impressive performance came in a 13-0 demolition of Thailand, where they played a near-perfect game across all departments.

The standout performance in India’s 13-0 win was from Deepika, who scored five goals, including two from direct dragflicks, highlighting India’s improved set-piece play. The Indian team converted five out of 12 penalty corners against Thailand, a much-needed improvement after struggling in this area in their earlier matches. Alongside Deepika, Preeti Dubey, Navneet Kaur, Lalremsiami, and Sangita Kumari also featured prominently in the forward line, contributing crucial goals.

The Indian midfield, captained by Salima Tete and Neha Goyal, controlled the flow of the game, while Sushila Chanu and Udita provided a solid defensive foundation. However, the defensive unit did not face significant challenges from Thailand, raising concerns about the level of preparation for a more competitive opponent like China.

The Challenge of China: Speed and Precision

As India prepares to face China, the Indian backline will have to be at its absolute best, especially considering China’s reputation for nimble footwork and their deadly counterattacks. The Chinese team, ranked No. 6 in the world, has scored 22 goals in their three matches, leading the tournament in goal-scoring. Their high-paced counterattacks will test India’s defensive setup, and the Indian defence will need to be sharp in transitioning the ball from the backline into the attack.

The Indian attack will also face a much tougher test against China than they did against Thailand, and India’s strikers will need to exercise patience and pick the right options inside the Chinese circle. Coach Harendra Singh has stressed the importance of maintaining the team’s structure in attack and defence, as it was against Thailand.

Harendra Singh’s Thoughts on the Upcoming Challenge

India’s head coach Harendra Singh expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance against Thailand, particularly in terms of maintaining structure and tactical discipline.

“I am happy with the way the team maintained their structure and managed to manipulate the opposition and score goals,” said Singh. “There was a strong connection between the defenders and attacking midfielders, and we need to continue that approach in the remaining matches,” he added, emphasizing the need for consistency as the competition heats up.

As India prepares for the Chinese challenge, the key will be to execute their game plan effectively while managing the pressure that comes with such a high-profile encounter.

Other Matches: Malaysia vs Japan, Korea vs Thailand

In other matches on Saturday, Malaysia will take on Japan, while Korea will face Thailand. Both matches promise to add more excitement to the competition as teams battle for a spot in the semifinals.

As the India vs China clash looms large, all eyes will be on the defending champions to see if they can overcome their recent defeats at the hands of China and continue their pursuit of another Asian Champions Trophy title.

Haryana Pacer Anshul Kamboj Makes History with 10-Wicket Haul in Ranji Trophy

0

Lahli (Haryana), Nov 15: Anshul Kamboj, a 23-year-old fast bowler from Haryana, etched his name into the record books on Friday as he became only the third bowler in the history of the Ranji Trophy to claim all 10 wickets in a single innings. Kamboj achieved this incredible feat during his team’s Group C match against Kerala at the Chaudhary Bansi Lal Cricket Stadium, situated on the outskirts of Rohtak.

Kamboj’s remarkable performance saw him finish with figures of 10/49 from 30.1 overs, putting him alongside the likes of Premangshu Chatterjee and Pradeep Sundaram, who had previously achieved the same milestone in the country’s premier domestic cricket tournament.

Kamboj Joins Elite Company in Indian Cricket

The last time a bowler claimed all 10 wickets in a Ranji Trophy innings was in 1985, when Pradeep Sundaram took 10/78 for Rajasthan against Vidarbha. The first such achievement came in 1956 when Premangshu Chatterjee of Bengal claimed 10/20 against Assam.

Kamboj is the sixth Indian bowler to record a 10-wicket haul in First-Class cricket, joining the ranks of cricketing legends such as Anil Kumble, Subhash Gupte, and Debashish Mohanty. Notably, Kumble’s famous 10/74 against Pakistan in the 1999 Delhi Test remains one of the most iconic performances in cricket history.

Best Bowling Figures in Ranji Trophy History:

  • 10/20 – Premangshu Chatterjee – Bengal v Assam (1956-57)
  • 10/49 – Anshul Kamboj – Haryana v Kerala (2024-25)
  • 10/78 – Pradeep Sundaram – Rajasthan v Vidarbha (1985-86)

Kamboj’s Journey to Glory

Kamboj entered the third day of play with eight wickets to his name and completed his historic achievement by dismissing Basil Thampi and Shoun Roger, securing Kerala’s final wicket. Kerala were bowled out for 291 in their first innings, with Kamboj single-handedly dismantling their batting line-up.

This extraordinary performance also saw Kamboj surpass 50 wickets in First-Class cricket, achieving this milestone in just 19 matches.

A Rising Star in Indian Cricket

The Haryana pacer has been in sensational form this season. Recently, he was picked by Mumbai Indians for the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL), following an outstanding domestic season. His performances have been a key part of Haryana’s rise in domestic cricket. In the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Kamboj was among the top wicket-takers with 17 wickets in 10 matches, helping Haryana secure their maiden title.

Kamboj’s impressive run continued in the Duleep Trophy, where he became only the third pacer in history to record an eight-wicket haul in the prestigious tournament, behind Debashish Mohanty (10/46) and Ashok Dinda (8/123).

Indian Bowlers with 10-Wicket Hauls in First-Class Cricket:

  • 10/20 – Premangshu Chatterjee – Bengal v Assam (1956-57) – Ranji Trophy
  • 10/46 – Debasis Mohanty – East Zone v South Zone (2000-01) – Duleep Trophy
  • 10/49 – Anshul Kamboj – Haryana v Kerala (2024-25)
  • 10/74 – Anil Kumble – India v Pakistan (1999) – Test Match
  • 10/78 – Pradeep Sundaram – Rajasthan v Vidarbha (1985-86) – Ranji Trophy
  • 10/78 – Subhash Gupte – Bombay v Pakistan Combined Services & Bahawalpur XI (1954-55)

A Bright Future Ahead

Anshul Kamboj’s 10-wicket haul has put him in the spotlight and showcased his potential as one of India’s most promising pacers. With his recent performances and his selection for the IPL, Kamboj is rapidly gaining recognition as one of the country’s finest young talents.

As he continues to break records and inspire a new generation of cricketers, Kamboj’s future in the game looks extremely bright, and his historic achievement in the Ranji Trophy will surely be remembered as one of the standout moments of the 2024-25 season.

Amit Shah Unveils Statue of Birsa Munda on His 150th Birth Anniversary, Announces Year-Long Celebration as “Aadiwasi Gaurav Din”

0

New Delhi, Nov 15: On the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of Birsa Munda, the legendary tribal leader and freedom fighter, Union Home Minister Amit Shah unveiled a statue of Munda at the entrance of Baansera Park on Ring Road in New Delhi. The event also marked the launch of a year-long celebration dedicated to the tribal community, with the period from November 15, 2023, to November 15, 2025 officially designated as “Aadiwasi Gaurav Din”.

In his address, Amit Shah reminded the gathering that in 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced that November 15 would be observed annually as “Aadiwasi Gaurav Din” to honor the memory of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, who was born on this day in Jharkhand. This year, the government is celebrating his 150th birth anniversary with a series of events to acknowledge the contributions of tribal communities.

“On the occasion of Bhagwan Birsa Munda’s 150th birth anniversary, we are announcing that the entire year, starting today until November 15, 2025, will be celebrated as Aadiwasi Gaurav Din,” Shah said.

The Home Minister further elaborated on Birsa Munda’s legacy, dividing his life into two key contributions: his tireless efforts to protect tribal culture and his supreme sacrifice in the fight for India’s independence. At the young age of 25, Munda’s leadership and courage left a lasting impact on the nation, a story that continues to resonate even after 150 years.

“Bhagwan Birsa Munda’s life can be divided into two parts: one to protect tribal culture and the other to fight for the freedom of the country. At the age of 25, he became a symbol of sacrifice and bravery that is remembered even today,” Shah added.

Birsa Munda Statue: A Symbol of Tribal Pride

The statue of Birsa Munda, which was unveiled by Amit Shah, weighs approximately 3,000 kg and is a tribute to the tribal leader’s legacy and sacrifice. The statue was crafted by two experienced sculptors from West Bengal, who meticulously designed it to reflect a sense of liveliness and vitality in its form, capturing the spirit of Birsa Munda’s heroic contributions.

The unveiling of the statue coincided with the celebration of “Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas”, a day observed across the country to honor tribal communities and their contributions to Indian society.

Sarai Kale Khan Intersection Renamed in Birsa Munda’s Honor

In a parallel move to honor the legacy of Birsa Munda, Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khattar, officially renamed the Sarai Kale Khan intersection in New Delhi as “Bhagwan Birsa Munda Chowk”. The renaming of this prominent location is a symbolic tribute to the tribal icon and further highlights the government’s commitment to celebrating tribal culture and history.

A Nationwide Tribute to Tribal Heroes

The unveiling of Birsa Munda’s statue and the announcement of the Aadiwasi Gaurav Din celebration period marks a significant step in recognizing the contributions of India’s tribal communities. It underscores the importance of preserving tribal traditions and culture while also acknowledging their sacrifices in the freedom struggle. The year-long celebration is expected to include various programs and initiatives to promote tribal pride, welfare, and social recognition.

As India moves forward, this event serves as a reminder of the importance of unity in diversity, honoring the tribal communities who have been integral to the nation’s history and identity.

Telangana Government Issues Legal Notice to Diljit Dosanjh Ahead of ‘Dil-Luminati’ Concert in Hyderabad

0

Ahead of Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh’s highly anticipated ‘Dil-Luminati’ concert in Hyderabad on Friday, the Telangana Government has issued a legal notice to the artist, directing him to refrain from performing songs that promote alcohol, drugs, or violence during the live show. The notice was served following a complaint from Panditrao Dharenavar, a Chandigarh-based professor, who raised concerns over the content of Dosanjh’s performances.

The notice, issued on November 7 by the District Welfare Officer of the Department of Welfare of Women and Children, Disabled and Senior Citizens, Rangareddy District, references a complaint and video evidence submitted by the complainant. The footage allegedly shows Dosanjh performing songs that glorify alcohol consumption, drug use, and violence during his live shows, including at a concert held at Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on October 26 and 27.

“We are issuing this notice in advance to deter promoting these harmful substances and behaviors in your live show,” the legal notice stated.

Restrictions on Children and Sound Levels at Concert

In addition to the concerns about song lyrics, the notice also included specific instructions regarding the participation of children in the concert. The Telangana authorities have directed Dosanjh to not bring children on stage during the performance, citing safety and health guidelines.

“According to the World Health Organization, adults should not be exposed to sound levels above 140 decibels, and for children, the limit is 120 decibels. Therefore, children should not be on stage in an environment where sound pressure levels exceed these limits,” the notice warned.

The notice also raised concerns about the concert guidelines, which allow children under the age of 13 to attend, despite the potential risks of loud sounds and flashing lights at the event.

Historical Context of Allegations Against Punjabi Singers

The legal action comes amid a wider debate around the content of songs by Punjabi artists, particularly those accused of promoting gun culture and violence. In 2020, the late Sidhu Moosewala was booked for promoting gun violence through his song ‘Sanju’, in which he referenced a legal case involving firearms. In 2022, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann warned artists against glorifying violence and drug use in their music.

Punjabi singers, including Dosanjh, have frequently faced criticism for the violent imagery and controversial themes in their lyrics, which some claim perpetuate harmful cultural stereotypes.

Diljit Dosanjh’s ‘Dil-Luminati’ Concert in Hyderabad

Despite the legal notice, Diljit Dosanjh’s ‘Dil-Luminati’ concert is scheduled to take place on Friday, November 10, at GMR Arena on Airport Approach Road in Hyderabad. The concert is expected to attract a crowd of over 20,000 fans, with Cyberabad police confirming traffic management, crowd control, and security measures will be in place for the event.

“We are expecting a crowd of more than 20,000 people. Police have been deployed for traffic and crowd control, and general security. There are no specific curbs from our side,” said Cyberabad Police Commissioner Avinash Mohanty.

The concert promises to be a major event for Dosanjh’s fans in Hyderabad, but it will also be under close scrutiny following the Telangana Government’s legal notice.

Conclusion

As Diljit Dosanjh prepares for his ‘Dil-Luminati’ concert, the legal notice highlights ongoing concerns about the impact of certain music lyrics, especially those that promote substance abuse and violence. The outcome of this legal notice could set a precedent for how live performances are regulated in the future, particularly for artists whose songs touch on controversial themes.

Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh Announces Exclusive Divisional Headquarters for Railways in Jammu

0

Union Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Dr. Jitendra Singh, today announced that the Railways Ministry will soon set up an exclusive Divisional Headquarters in Jammu. This development comes after a proposal was presented by the Jammu Chamber of Commerce & Industry (JCCI), which was promptly taken up with the Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for approval.

Dr. Singh revealed that the proposal was submitted by a delegation of the JCCI, led by its President Arun Gupta, during a meeting in Jammu on Wednesday. The delegation advocated for the establishment of the Railway Divisional Headquarters in the region, highlighting Jammu’s growing importance as a key railway hub. Dr. Singh acted swiftly, engaging with the Railway Minister, who accepted the proposal and initiated the process for setting up the divisional headquarters.

THE PRIME MINISTER, NARENDRA MODI, IS PERSONALLY MONITORING THE PROGRESS OF RAILWAY INFRASTRUCTURE IN JAMMU AND KASHMIR. HE IS KEEN TO ENSURE THAT JAMMU RECEIVES ITS DUE RECOGNITION AND THAT THE RAILWAY FACILITY AND ADMINISTRATIVE STRUCTURE IN THE CITY ARE REINFORCED,” DR. SINGH SAID.

He further emphasized that Jammu will soon become a critical railway junction, particularly with the upcoming rail connectivity to the Kashmir valley. The historic rail link will connect the Kashmir valley with the rest of India for the first time, marking a significant milestone in the region’s infrastructure development.

JCCI Delegation Highlights Jammu’s Growing Railway Importance

The JCCI delegation, led by President Arun Gupta and accompanied by Rajeev Gupta (Junior Vice President), Manish Gupta (Secretary General), Rajesh Gupta (Secretary), and Rajesh Gupta-II (Treasurer), met with Dr. Singh at Jammu and submitted a memorandum urging the establishment of the Railway Divisional Headquarters in the region.

The JCCI team pointed out that although Jammu Railway Station has been declared a Railway Division, little progress has been made in the establishment of a formal headquarters. They highlighted the growing importance of Jammu as a major railway hub, especially with the upcoming rail connection to Baramulla. The delegation argued that given Jammu’s expanding role in railway operations, it deserves a full-fledged Railway Division to manage the growing network.

“JAMMU HAS BEEN A PIVOTAL CENTER FOR RAILWAY OPERATIONS, AND WITH THE EXTENSION OF RAIL CONNECTIVITY UP TO BARAMULLA, THE SCOPE OF OPERATIONS HAS FURTHER INCREASED,” THE JCCI DELEGATION NOTED IN THEIR MEMORANDUM.

Dr. Jitendra Singh Endorses JCCI’s Demand

Dr. Jitendra Singh strongly endorsed the demand and assured the JCCI delegation that he would take up the matter with the Union Railway Minister as a top priority.

“I ASSURE YOU THAT I WILL PERSONALLY TAKE UP THE MATTER WITH THE UNION RAILWAY MINISTER AND ENSURE THAT THIS ISSUE IS RESOLVED AT THE EARLIEST,” DR. SINGH TOLD THE DELEGATION.

The JCCI expressed its gratitude to Dr. Singh for his prompt action in addressing the demand, commending him for his commitment to improving Jammu’s railway infrastructure and strengthening its position as a key railway hub.

A Boost to Jammu’s Infrastructure and Connectivity

The establishment of the Divisional Headquarters in Jammu will not only improve railway administration but also further boost regional connectivity and economic growth. As Jammu prepares to become a crucial junction in the expanding railway network, this move is expected to pave the way for enhanced transportation facilities, better connectivity with the rest of India, and greater opportunities for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Supreme Court Dismisses Plea to Mandate Doctors to Inform Patients of All Risks and Side Effects of Medications

SC Dismisses Plea for Mandatory Disclosure of Drug Side Effects by Doctors

New Delhi, Nov 14, 2024 — The Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed a public interest litigation (PIL) that sought a mandate for medical professionals to inform patients about all potential side effects and risks associated with the drugs they prescribe. The plea was rejected on the grounds of practicality and concerns over the feasibility of such a requirement.

Background of the Case

The petition, filed by Jacob Vadakkanchery, was an appeal against the Delhi High Court’s May 15 order, which had rejected the same request. The petition called for a direction to the Centre and National Medical Commission to enforce a rule requiring doctors to include a detailed list of side effects along with every prescription, potentially in the regional language, to enable patients to make an informed decision.

Supreme Court’s Observations

A bench of Justices B R Gavai and K V Viswanathan acknowledged that while the issue raised was significant, they did not find it practical to implement the mandate as suggested. The bench noted that it would place an undue burden on general practitioners, who may struggle to manage the increasing number of patients if they were required to explain every potential side effect for each drug prescribed.

  • Feasibility Concerns: The court remarked that if the proposal were to be implemented, doctors might only be able to treat a small number of patients, which could lead to medical negligence cases under the Consumer Protection Act.
  • Consumer Protection: Bhushan, appearing for the petitioner, argued that having a printed proforma or slip listing possible side effects would help doctors avoid negligence and empower patients to make an informed choice.

The Argument for Informed Choice

Bhushan emphasized that patients have the right to make an informed choice about the medicines they are prescribed. He pointed to the World Health Organization’s (WHO) acknowledgment of the harm that can occur from incorrect or insufficiently explained prescriptions.

However, the court reiterated that the legislature had already imposed the responsibility on drug manufacturers and pharmacists to provide necessary information on side effects through inserts that accompany medicines at the time of sale.

Delhi High Court’s Rejection and Court’s Final Ruling

In its earlier ruling, the Delhi High Court had rejected the PIL, observing that judicial legislation could not be introduced in this matter since the legislative duty to provide information already rested with the manufacturer and pharmacist. The high court noted that the petitioner had not disputed the sufficiency of the information already provided by the drug manufacturer through the product insert.

The Supreme Court upheld the High Court’s decision, stating that the duty to ensure adequate information about drug risks already lay with the manufacturer and pharmacist, and there was no need for a fresh mandate from the judiciary.

Conclusion

The Supreme Court’s ruling dismisses the plea to make it mandatory for doctors to provide a comprehensive list of potential risks and side effects of prescribed drugs. The court cited practicality concerns, the existing role of manufacturers and pharmacists in providing such information, and the potential burden on doctors in implementing such a mandate.

This ruling emphasizes the importance of clarity in the existing healthcare system and the separation of powers between the judiciary and legislature in determining responsibilities within medical practice.

Modi Accuses Congress of Plotting for Separate Kashmir Constitution, Praises BJP’s Progress in Maharashtra

PM Modi’s Strong Words on Kashmir and Maharashtra’s Progress

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Nov 14, 2024 — In a fiery speech during his rally in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar ahead of the Maharashtra assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused the Congress party and its allies of conspiring to restore Article 370 and introduce a separate Constitution for Kashmir.

Kashmir and Congress’ Alleged Scheme

Modi strongly asserted that Kashmir is an integral part of India and criticized the Congress for allegedly working towards its separation. He questioned whether the people of Maharashtra would support a party that “speaks the language of Pakistan” and emphasized that every Indian desires Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s Constitution to be followed in Kashmir. The Prime Minister reiterated that the BJP government would not allow any compromise on Kashmir’s status as a part of India.

Renaming of Aurangabad: A Victory for Marathi Pride

Modi took the opportunity to highlight the renaming of Aurangabad to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, a decision he credited to the BJP-led Mahayuti government. He mentioned that the demand to rename the city was first raised by Bal Thackeray, the founder of Shiv Sena, and claimed that the Congress-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government did not have the courage to take action due to Congress’ opposition.

Modi further claimed that the MVA government failed to act on the issue during its tenure, citing that it had lacked the resolve to rename the city under pressure from the Congress.

A Battle of Ideologies in the Maharashtra Elections

Modi framed the Maharashtra assembly elections as a battle between patriots who respect Sambhaji Maharaj and others who admire Aurangzeb, a Mughal emperor known for his persecution of Hindus. He urged the people of Maharashtra to choose the BJP and its allies, highlighting the progress brought about by the BJP-Mahayuti alliance.

Economic Progress and Marathi Pride

Modi also took credit for the BJP’s efforts to give Marathi the status of a classical language, a demand that had been pending for decades. Additionally, he pointed to the record Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Maharashtra had received under the Mahayuti government and how it had benefited the state’s economy.

“Maharashtra has attracted the maximum FDI after the formation of the Mahayuti government. The people have benefited due to the investment,” Modi stated.

Conclusion: BJP’s Vision for Maharashtra’s Future

In his closing remarks, Modi said, “BJP-Mahayuti ahe, tar gati ahe, Maharashtrachi pragati ahe”, emphasizing that with the Mahayuti alliance in power, there would be progress for Maharashtra.
