BJP Leader Tsering Namgyal Defends Abrogation of Article 370 and 35A, Slams JKNC’s Regressive Stand

Nov 17: Senior BJP leader and former Member of Parliament, Tsering Namgyal, has asserted that the abrogation of Article 370 and 35A was not only a Constitutional milestone but also a move that resonated deeply with the people of Ladakh.

Namgyal strongly refuted the statement made by National Conference (NC) MP from Srinagar, Aga Ruhullah Mehdi, regarding the resolution passed by the J&K Legislative Assembly. He reiterated that the BJP firmly stands by the constitutionality and necessity of the abrogation of Article 370 and 35A, which he termed as essential for the integration of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh with the rest of India.

In a statement issued today, Namgyal said, “This landmark decision, passed with the approval of the Indian Parliament, was a reflection of the collective will of the nation to ensure equal rights and opportunities for all citizens, including those in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.” He added, “The claim that this decision was unconstitutional is unfounded and misleads the public. The removal of these provisions was essential to integrate these regions fully into the fabric of Bharat, fostering unity, equality, and national strength. It has paved the way for equitable development and the protection of fundamental rights for all residents.”

The former MP emphasized that the move to make Ladakh a separate Union Territory had significantly accelerated its development, preserved its unique cultural heritage, and opened new avenues for economic and infrastructural growth. “This historic change has empowered Ladakhis, who now have the autonomy to voice our aspirations directly, ensuring our development is tailored to our unique needs,” Namgyal remarked.

Referring to the statement by the JKNC leader, Namgyal said it was an attempt to impose a narrow interpretation that does not reflect the varied sentiments of the region’s people. “Such misinterpretations only serve to deepen political divides and hinder forward-looking progress,” he added.

Namgyal also criticized the INDI Alliance for supporting the JKNC’s push to reinstate Article 370 and 35A and revert to pre-1953 conditions, calling it regressive and a move that posed significant security risks. “Historically, these provisions contributed to an environment that enabled terrorism, stone-pelting, and gun culture to take root, destabilizing the erstwhile State of Jammu & Kashmir. By advocating for a return to these provisions, the JKNC risks reviving an era marked by violence and unrest, which the people of Ladakh and the peace-loving people of the broader region have no desire to revisit,” he said.

Namgyal concluded by reaffirming that the people of Ladakh are committed to progress, peace, and development, and the abrogation of Article 370 and 35A was a crucial step towards ensuring a brighter future for the region.

Shah Criticizes Congress and Defends BJP’s Promises
Madhupur (Jharkhand), Nov 16: Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a strong attack on the Congress and its leader Rahul Gandhi during a rally at Madhupur in Deoghar district on Saturday. Shah accused Gandhi of making promises to the public and then flying abroad, while asserting that only the BJP fulfills its commitments.

Jharkhand Elections Are About Shaping the Future
Addressing the gathering, Shah stated that the Jharkhand elections were not just about changing MLAs, the chief minister, or the government, but about shaping the future of the youth and the poor, and taking a stand against corruption. He emphasized that the real issues at stake were jobs, youth empowerment, and addressing corruption in the state.

Infiltrators Threatening Tribals and Youth, Says Shah
Shah also raised concerns over the issue of infiltrators, claiming that they were not only posing a threat to tribal communities but also to the youth of Jharkhand by snatching jobs and contributing to rising crime. He pointed out that while the Jharkhand High Court had ordered the identification and deportation of infiltrators, the Hemant Soren-led state government had failed to take any action, despite the Centre’s agreement.

A Historical Comparison: BJP vs Congress on National Security
In his scathing critique of the Congress, Shah reminded the crowd of the period during the UPA rule, alleging that terrorists not only attacked India but also enjoyed meals after killing people. In contrast, he praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for taking strong actions against terrorism, citing the surgical strikes and air strikes carried out by the Modi government to eliminate terrorists.

India’s Economic Ambition
Shah also made a bold claim about India’s economic future, stating that India is on track to become the third-largest economy in the world before December 2027, under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi.

India Clinch T20I Series 3-1 with Record-Breaking 135-Run Win Over South Africa

0

India registered a resounding 135-run victory over South Africa in the fourth and final T20 International to clinch the series 3-1. Batting first, India posted a mammoth 283/1, powered by centuries from Tilak Varma (120 not out off 47 balls) and Sanju Samson (109 not out off 56 balls). In reply, South Africa was bowled out for just 148 in 18.2 overs, as India’s bowlers delivered clinical performances across the board.

Record-Breaking Batting Display by Samson and Varma
This match saw two Indian batters score centuries in the same T20I innings for the first time ever. Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma made the Proteas bowlers toil as they dominated the South African attack. This partnership of 210 runs for the second wicket was also the highest-ever T20I partnership for India. Samson, who had already scored a century in the first game of the series, followed it up with another stunning knock, smashing 9 sixes in the process. Varma, who has been in sensational form, hit 10 sixes, completing his century in just 41 balls, 10 balls faster than Samson.

The Indian duo took full advantage of a true batting track with a bounce that allowed them to clear the boundary with ease. India’s total of 283/1 is not only their highest in T20Is but also the highest-ever T20I total on South African soil. The Indian batters hit 23 sixes in total, including 10 from Varma and 9 from Samson, as they toyed with the South African bowlers.

A Brutal Assault on the South African Bowlers
The South African bowlers had no answer to the onslaught. While Gerald Coetzee, South Africa’s best pacer, seemed to be carrying a niggle, Andile Simelane (0/47 in 3 overs) and Lutho Sipamla (1/58 in 4 overs) were hit for 10 sixes alone. The Indians took full advantage, smashing the medium pacers all over the ground. Even Keshav Maharaj and Tristan Stubbs were not spared as Varma and Samson punished every loose delivery.

South Africa’s bowling attack lacked variety and pace variations, and they bowled 17 wides in an attempt to stem the run flow. Samson and Varma’s aggression, combined with the South African bowlers’ inability to adjust, resulted in a brutal batting display.

South Africa’s Struggle in Response
In response, South Africa’s chase never really got going. Tristan Stubbs top-scored for the Proteas with 46 runs, while David Miller contributed 36. However, India’s bowlers, led by Arshdeep Singh, who claimed 3 wickets for 20 runs, ensured that South Africa was never in contention. Varun Chakravarthy (2/42) and Axar Patel (2/6) also played key roles with the ball, while Hardik Pandya, Ramandeep Singh, and Ravi Bishnoi picked up a wicket each.

India’s Clinical Bowling Performance
India’s bowlers, led by Arshdeep Singh‘s brilliant spell, bowled with precision and discipline, restricting South Africa to 148 all out in just 18.2 overs. The South African chase was stifled early, and despite some resistance from Stubbs and Miller, India was always in control of the game.

Brief Scores:

  • India: 283/1 in 20 overs (Sanju Samson 109* off 56 balls, Tilak Varma 120* off 47 balls; Lutho Sipamla 1/58)
  • South Africa: 148 all out in 18.2 overs (Tristan Stubbs 46, David Miller 36; Arshdeep Singh 3/20)

Jake Paul Defeats Mike Tyson in Unanimous Decision in Boxing Match

0

ARLINGTON, Texas, Nov 16: Jake Paul emerged victorious over Mike Tyson in a unanimous decision after an uneventful boxing match on Friday night (November 15, 2024) at the home of the Dallas Cowboys. The fight, which had been heavily hyped, failed to live up to expectations as the action in the ring was underwhelming.

Judges Score the Fight in Paul’s Favor
The bout wasn’t close on the judge’s cards, with one scoring it 80-72 for Paul and the other two giving him 79-73. Despite the buildup of animosity before the fight, the tension appeared to dissipate once the bell rang, with Paul even bowing to Tyson in a sign of respect before the final bell sounded.

Tyson Starts Strong but Fizzles Out
Tyson, the 58-year-old former heavyweight champion, came out strong in the opening seconds, landing a couple of quick punches. However, his momentum quickly stalled, and he seemed to struggle with the pace of the fight. The veteran boxer, in his first sanctioned pro fight in nearly 20 years, failed to generate much offense as the rounds progressed.

Paul’s Aggression Fails to Land Efficiently
Paul, who began his boxing career just over four years ago, was more aggressive following Tyson’s early burst but struggled with his accuracy. There were numerous wild swings and misses from the young YouTuber-turned-boxer, as he looked to press the action. Tyson mostly waited for Paul to come to him, with a few brief exchanges, but the fight lacked sustained excitement.

A Historic Return for Tyson
This was Tyson’s first sanctioned fight since 2005, and it was clear that the time away from the ring had taken a toll on his performance. Despite his legendary career, the 58-year-old seemed unable to keep up with Paul, a boxer with far less experience but more recent ring activity.

Co-Main Event Sees Katie Taylor Retain Championship
The undercard featured another exciting clash as Katie Taylor successfully defended her undisputed super lightweight championship with a decision win over Amanda Serrano in a thrilling co-main event, which was much more competitive than the headliner.

Fight Postponed Due to Tyson’s Health Issues
The fight, originally scheduled for July 20, had to be postponed when Tyson fell ill and required treatment for a stomach ulcer after a flight. Despite the delay and anticipation, the main event did not deliver the fireworks that many had hoped for.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla Highlights Role of Robust Audit System in Strengthening Democracy

0

New Delhi, Nov 16: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Saturday emphasized that a robust and transparent audit system plays a vital role in strengthening democracy and guiding the country towards all-round development. Addressing the ‘Audit Diwas’ event organized by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), Birla highlighted how such systems ensure fiscal discipline and monetary prudence, which are essential for the proper utilization of public funds allocated by Parliament.

Audit Brings Fiscal Discipline and Accountability
Birla asserted that a strong audit mechanism ensures that funds passed by Parliament for various welfare and development schemes are utilized appropriately. He emphasized that a transparent audit system brings in greater accountability and ensures that public resources are managed efficiently and effectively.

Role of Opposition in Ensuring Fiscal Transparency
The Lok Sabha Speaker further pointed out that to maintain fiscal discipline and transparency in the country’s democratic framework, a senior member of the principal opposition party is traditionally appointed as the head of Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC). This, he noted, is a testament to the strength of Indian democracy, where members from both the ruling and opposition sides collaborate to ensure transparency in the use of public funds.

Public Accounts Committee’s Role in Scrutinizing Audit Reports
Birla elaborated on the process wherein the CAG’s audit report on public expenditure is thoroughly scrutinized by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC). The PAC provides a platform for members from both sides of the aisle to discuss and review the audit reports in detail, ensuring that public money is spent judiciously.

Enhancing Transparency and Fiscal Discipline
Addressing the gathering, Birla stressed that increased transparency in auditing mechanisms leads to greater fiscal discipline. He concluded that a transparent audit system fosters public trust and enhances the efficiency of government spending, thereby contributing to the nation’s overall development.

Sharad Pawar Accuses Modi of Dividing Society, Rules Out Alliance with BJP After Elections

0

Pune, Nov 15: Senior opposition leader Sharad Pawar on Friday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of “dividing” society, as he fiercely criticized the PM’s campaign speeches ahead of the Maharashtra assembly elections. Pawar also ruled out any possibility of a post-poll alliance with his estranged nephew Ajit Pawar, who had joined the BJP in 2023, stating that he would not associate with anyone aligned with the BJP.

In an exclusive interview with PTI, Pawar, the leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the architect of the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) in Maharashtra, dismissed Modi’s rhetoric of social unity and accused the ruling Mahayuti alliance of using monetary power, including cash transfer schemes, to influence the electorate after their poor showing in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

“People will reject them. They can’t fool the masses with money,” Pawar remarked.

Pawar also voiced his disapproval of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, slamming his controversial “batengain to katengain” slogan, which has sparked criticism even from some BJP allies and leaders, including Ajit Pawar, the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra. Sharad Pawar referred to Adityanath and others in the BJP as individuals who promote communalism and claimed they are doing a disservice to the country.

Pawar’s Response to Modi’s Criticism of Opposition

When questioned about PM Modi’s accusations that the opposition is dividing society along caste lines, Pawar hit back, saying that it is Modi himself who is deepening societal divisions. Modi has been urging people to unite under the BJP-Shiv Sena-NCP alliance, calling for social cohesion and rejecting the alleged appeasement politics of the opposition.

“He (Modi) is the prime minister, but his actions are divisive. His speeches over the past few days are aimed at furthering his political interests,” Pawar said.

The NCP leader expressed that, during his extensive campaigning, he had sensed widespread discontent among the public, especially among farmers and the youth. According to Pawar, people will favor the MVA when they head to the polls on November 20.

No Post-Poll Alliance with Ajit Pawar

In a pointed remark about his nephew Ajit Pawar, who defected to the BJP-led government in 2023, Sharad Pawar firmly ruled out any possibility of reuniting with him after the elections.

“There is no question of any alliance with those who are associated with the BJP. We have our own party and principles, and we will not entertain such discussions,” Pawar said.

Ajit Pawar’s breakaway faction of the NCP, which joined the BJP in 2023, has raised speculation about a potential realignment in the state’s political landscape, depending on the results of the upcoming elections. However, Sharad Pawar made it clear that he considers those who sided with his nephew as “traitors” and expressed confidence that voters would serve them justice in the upcoming election.

BJP’s Welfare Schemes: A Reaction to People’s Unhappiness

Sharad Pawar also addressed the BJP’s recent welfare schemes, particularly the controversial ‘Ladki Bahin’ cash transfer program, under which Rs 1,500 is given to women. The scheme, aimed at attracting female voters, has been widely discussed, with some perceiving it as a last-minute attempt to recover lost ground after the 2024 Lok Sabha loss. Pawar suggested that the government’s decision to launch such schemes was a reaction to the “unrest” among the people, particularly in the face of discontent with the ruling government’s performance.

“They have realized they are not getting a positive response. They are now throwing money at the issue, but it won’t work. Women will vote for our alliance for peace, security, and overall welfare,” he added.

Impact of BJP’s Hindutva Campaign

As the BJP intensifies its Hindutva campaign ahead of the elections, Sharad Pawar acknowledged the ruling alliance’s emphasis on religious identity politics. However, he stressed that the true impact of these strategies could only be assessed after the election results are declared. Despite the ruling alliance’s focus on Hindutva and welfare schemes, Pawar remains confident that the opposition’s message of social harmony, security, and inclusive governance will resonate with the electorate.

MVA’s Campaign and the Road Ahead

Sharad Pawar, at 83, is spearheading the MVA campaign to reclaim ground in western Maharashtra and rebuild his party’s influence following its 2023 split. While he refrained from making any predictions regarding the number of seats the MVA may win, he expressed confidence that the people are fed up with the current government, especially due to its failure to address issues like farmer distress and youth unemployment.

“Whenever they get an opportunity to cast their votes, they will support us and our associates,” said Pawar.

The Political Landscape: Fluid and Unpredictable

Despite Pawar’s strong stand, Maharashtra’s political landscape remains fluid, with a variety of regional leaders and ideological shifts keeping the political situation volatile. Speculation about a potential post-poll realignment remains alive, but Sharad Pawar has made it clear that his alliance remains firmly opposed to any association with the BJP, emphasizing the integrity of his party’s principles.

As November 20 approaches, the political battle in Maharashtra intensifies, with Sharad Pawar and the MVA facing a crucial test in the polls. Pawar’s steadfast stance against the BJP and his determination to keep his party aligned with its core values will be key factors in the state’s future political landscape.
