Hemant Soren Sworn in as 14th Chief Minister of Jharkhand

0

Ranchi, Nov 29, 2024 – Hemant Soren, the leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), was sworn in as the 14th Chief Minister of Jharkhand on Thursday in a grand ceremony at Morabadi Ground in Ranchi. The 49-year-old tribal leader took the oath in the presence of a host of prominent leaders from the INDIA alliance, marking a significant moment in the state’s political landscape.

Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar administered the oath of office and secrecy to Soren. The ceremony was attended by key political figures, including Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, among others.

A Momentous Occasion for JMM and Jharkhand

Before taking the oath, Hemant Soren, dressed in a white kurta-pyjama and a Nehru jacket, met with his father and JMM President Shibu Soren. This marks Soren’s fourth term as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand, further solidifying his leadership in the state. In the recent Assembly elections, Soren retained his Barhait seat by securing a victory over BJP’s Gamliyel Hembrom with a margin of 39,791 votes.

The JMM-led alliance won a decisive victory, securing 56 out of 81 seats in the Jharkhand Assembly, while the BJP-led NDA could only secure 24 seats.

Political Leaders and Cultural Celebrations

The swearing-in ceremony was a significant political event, drawing leaders from across the country. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, CPI(ML) Liberation General Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya, Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav, and Bihar’s Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav were also present to show their support.

Adding to the grandeur of the event, tribal troupes from across the state performed traditional dances, celebrating the occasion with drums (‘dhol’) and cymbals (‘nagara’) in vibrant attire. The air was filled with energy and cultural expressions, while tight security measures ensured the smooth conduct of the event.

In honor of the momentous occasion, schools in Ranchi city remained closed for the day, allowing residents to partake in the celebration of the new government’s formation.

With the JMM-led government now in place, all eyes will be on Hemant S

Cheteshwar Pujara Backs KL Rahul to Open with Yashasvi Jaiswal in Second Test Against Australia

0

CANBERRA, Nov 29, 2024 – Even with the return of India’s skipper Rohit Sharma, veteran batter Cheteshwar Pujara has expressed his preference for K.L. Rahul to continue opening the batting alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal in the second Test against Australia. Rahul’s successful stint at the top of the order in the series opener in Perth, filling in for the absent Rohit, has led Pujara to suggest that the team should stick with the winning combination.

In a dominant 295-run victory in the first Test, Jaiswal scored a memorable century, while Rahul contributed solidly with scores of 26 and 77. Pujara, who has been a cornerstone of India’s batting in previous tours to Australia, feels that changing a winning formula could disrupt the momentum gained from such a comprehensive win.

Pujara’s Ideal Batting Order

During a chat with ESPNcricinfo, Pujara stated: “If we can carry on with the same batting order, like KL and Yashasvi opening, Rohit could come in at three, and Shubman could come in at five.” He further emphasized, “If Rohit wants to open, KL should bat at No. 3. Nothing later than that. I think he has to bat at the top of the order, because it suits his game really well. I hope we don’t tinker around with that.”

Shubman Gill’s Role in the Line-up

With Shubman Gill set to return after missing the first Test due to a thumb injury, Pujara believes the right time for Gill to come in would be at No. 5. “Ideally, No. 5 for Gill,” Pujara explained. “That allows him to play his natural game – if we lose a couple of early wickets, he can negotiate the new ball, and if he comes in later, he can play his shots freely.”

Pujara also noted that this batting order would help protect Rishabh Pant, ensuring he doesn’t have to face the new ball, which could be challenging for the left-hander. “I wouldn’t want him to walk in when the ball is hard and new,” Pujara added.

Warm-up Game Ahead of Pink-ball Test

As India prepares for the day-night Test against Australia in Adelaide, a two-day warm-up game against the Australian PM’s XI in Canberra will provide the team with a chance to test out combinations and fine-tune strategies. This match will be crucial for assessing the fitness of players like Gill and further determining the best batting order for the series.

With the team showing strong form and a well-balanced line-up, the upcoming Tests promise to be thrilling as India looks to continue their success on Australian soil.

Shubman Gill Returns to India Nets After Injury; India Set for Warm-up Match Against Australian PM’s XI

0

CANBERRA, Nov 29, 2024 – Shubman Gill was back in the nets on Friday, showing promising signs of recovery from the thumb injury that had ruled him out of India’s series opener against Australia in Perth. Gill’s return was welcomed by fans and teammates alike, especially after his stellar performances during India’s previous tour Down Under. While India’s victory by 295 runs in the first Test made his absence less impactful, the team will be eager to have him firing on all cylinders for the rest of the five-match series.

Gill, who was seen facing bowlers Yash Dayal and Akash Deep, is gearing up for the upcoming pink-ball warm-up match against the Australian Prime Minister’s XI, set to begin Saturday. His return to full fitness is a key development as India looks to strengthen their top order in the remaining matches.

What’s Next for India’s Batting Line-up?
In Gill’s absence, Devdutt Padikkal had stepped in at number three but struggled to make an impact. However, the bigger question remains: where will Gill slot into the batting order once he’s back to full fitness?

With K.L. Rahul’s impressive showing as an opener in Perth in Rohit Sharma’s absence, speculation is rife about potential changes in India’s batting line-up. Rohit Sharma is expected to open alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal, while Rahul could be pushed down to number three, potentially leaving Gill to bat at number five.

The warm-up match against the Australian PM’s XI could provide the perfect opportunity for India to experiment with their batting order, as all players will have a chance to bat, given that it’s not a first-class fixture.

Looking Ahead
As India prepares for the remainder of the series, the return of Shubman Gill adds much-needed depth and flexibility to their top order. The team management will be keen to assess his fitness in the warm-up game, and perhaps try out different combinations to ensure they hit the ground running for the next Test.

Stay tuned as the India-Australia series heats up, with plenty of action expected in the coming days!

GMC Doda OPD Slips Lacking Senior Resident Identification to See Improvements

Doda, November 28: In a recent development at Government Medical College (GMC) Doda, it was observed that OPD slips issued across various departments do not include the names of senior residents responsible for patient check-ups. This absence of identification on OPD slips has raised concerns about transparency and accountability in patient care, raising questions on both legal and ethical grounds.

When contacted by phone, GMC Doda Principal Dr. Rakesh acknowledged the issue and assured that necessary measures would be taken. Dr. Rakesh emphasized the importance of patient identification and trust, stating that future OPD slips would include the names of senior residents and other essential details. He affirmed that these changes aim to enhance patient care quality and ensure that all necessary parameters are met for improved healthcare service delivery at GMC Doda.

Importance of Including Doctors’ Names on OPD Slips
Listing the names of doctors on OPD slips is essential to ensure that patients are aware of who is treating them, thus fostering transparency and trust. This identification allows patients to easily trace their treating doctor for follow-ups and provides accountability for the medical care delivered. Such transparency is especially crucial in complex cases where continuity of care with a specific practitioner is vital for accurate diagnosis and effective treatment.

Legal Framework and Compliance Requirements:
In India, the Medical Council of India (MCI) guidelines—now governed by the National Medical Commission (NMC)—stipulate that all medical documents, including OPD slips, should carry the name and registration number of the doctor responsible. This requirement is part of the Indian Medical Council (Professional Conduct, Etiquette and Ethics) Regulations, 2002, designed to uphold accountability and prevent unauthorized medical practices. Additionally, compliance with these regulations ensures that healthcare institutions adhere to standardized practices nationwide.

By implementing these updates, GMC Doda will not only align with legal requirements but also enhance the quality of care and accountability provided to patients.

Priyanka Gandhi Takes Oath as Lok Sabha MP, Begins Political Journey

0

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra took oath as a Member of Parliament (MP) on Thursday, following her resounding victory in Kerala’s Wayanad bypoll. At 52 years old, Priyanka joins her mother Sonia Gandhi and brother Rahul Gandhi as an MP, marking a rare occasion when three members of a family are simultaneously present in Parliament. Priyanka affirmed her position in Hindi while holding a copy of the Constitution, shortly after the House convened.

Ravindra Chavan also Sworn in as MP

Ravindra Chavan, the Congress candidate who won the Nanded bypoll, also took his oath in Marathi, invoking the name of God. His victory came after the sad demise of his father, Vasantrao Chavan, which necessitated the bypoll.

Priyanka Gandhi’s Entry into Parliament

Priyanka Gandhi made her formal entry into active politics in 2019, when she was appointed Congress General Secretary. With her overwhelming win in the Wayanad by-election, where she secured more than 4.1 lakh votes, Priyanka has now taken her place as an elected representative, surpassing the tally of her brother Rahul Gandhi in the same constituency.

A Challenging Time for Congress

Priyanka’s entry into Parliament comes at a challenging time for the Congress Party, which has faced recent setbacks in Haryana and Maharashtra. Her leadership and influence could be pivotal in rejuvenating the party and steering it back onto a stronger electoral footing.

Public Perception and Political Legacy

Often compared to her grandmother, former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, for her striking resemblance and similar speaking style, Priyanka Gandhi has emerged as a prominent campaigner for the Congress party. Before entering active politics, she had already been involved in campaigning for her family members, including her mother Sonia and brother Rahul.

Victory and Best Wishes from Wayanad

On Wednesday, Congress leaders from Wayanad formally handed Priyanka Gandhi her election certificate, expressing their best wishes for her future as the elected MP. Priyanka’s victory in the Wayanad bypoll on Saturday, with a margin of over four lakh votes, has reaffirmed her political presence, as she defeated Sathyan Mokeri of the CPI(M)-led LDF.

Violence in Sambhal Triggers Political Row as UP Government Announces Strict Measures

0

The violence in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal on Sunday, which resulted in four deaths and 20 injuries, has sparked a political storm both inside and outside Parliament. On Wednesday, the Uttar Pradesh government announced stringent measures, including making the rioters pay for the damages and displaying their posters in public spaces. The announcement came as tensions remained high in the region, with a 48-hour extension of the internet ban for precautionary reasons.

Police Action and Investigation

The police have set up 30 teams to identify and arrest the suspects using CCTV footage, releasing over 100 images of alleged rioters from the Kot Garvi area. Despite the reopening of markets and schools, the internet ban remains in place. The violence erupted on Sunday when protests near a mosque turned violent after a court-ordered survey, sparked by claims that a Hindu temple once stood at the site. The clashes led to stone pelting, arson, and injuries to police personnel.

Political and Public Reactions

The incident has prompted political reactions, particularly from the opposition. In the Rajya Sabha, opposition members called for the formation of a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to investigate the violence. This led to the adjournment of both Houses of Parliament without conducting any substantial business. Samajwadi Party (SP) leaders, including MP Dimple Yadav, demanded a discussion on the issue in Parliament, accusing the police and administration of inhuman behavior. SP chief Akhilesh Yadav also alleged police misconduct, accusing officers of threatening the family of one of the victims, Naeem, and forcibly taking thumb impressions on blank papers.

FIRs and Arrests

The police have registered seven FIRs in connection with the violence, naming several individuals, including Samajwadi Party MP Zia-ur-Rehman Barq, and local MLA Iqbal Mehmood’s son Sohail Iqbal, among others. The police have arrested 25 people so far and continue their investigation. Zia-ur-Rehman, who has been named in an FIR for allegedly inciting the mob, denied the allegations, claiming he was not present during the incident and criticized the police for opening fire on citizens.

Court Orders and Claims of Misunderstanding

In the wake of the violence, the Shahi Jama Masjid management committee raised concerns about the legality of the mosque’s survey, claiming it was carried out unlawfully. Gopal Sharma, a lawyer representing the Hindu side, defended the survey, explaining that it was ordered by an advocate commissioner and was necessary for videography. He also refuted claims of excavation, clarifying that the draining of water from the ablution tank was a procedural step.

UP Government’s Response

Uttar Pradesh ministers Dharmaveer Prajapati and Narendra Kashyap emphasized that rioters would be held accountable for damages, with the government planning to display posters of the alleged “stone-pelters.” This approach, they said, was similar to measures taken during the anti-CAA protests in 2020. A magisterial probe into the violence is underway, and authorities are assessing the damage to public property.

Sambhal MLA Speaks Out

SP MLA Iqbal Mahmood, whose son has been named in the FIR, expressed concerns about the speed at which the court ordered the survey and the lack of an opportunity for clarification. He explained that the unrest started when the police gathered near the Jama Masjid, leading to misunderstandings and violence. He urged the authorities to show footage of his son’s alleged involvement in the violence.

Travel Restrictions and Tension in Sambhal

An Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) delegation, which was headed for Sambhal, was stopped in Hapur district. The police have advised the public to avoid visiting Sambhal until November 30, citing ongoing security concerns. The situation in Sambhal remains tense, with investigations and court proceedings continuing as the region grapples with the aftermath of the violence.

Lt Governor Manoj Sinha Meets with Legislators and Representatives to Address Key Issues in Jammu and Kashmir

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha held meetings today with several prominent leaders and representatives from Jammu and Kashmir, discussing pressing concerns related to the region’s growth and prosperity.

MLAs from Kishtwar and Jasrota Meet Lt Governor

Gaurav Gupta Presents Memorandum on Youth and Traders’ Concerns
Gaurav Gupta, former General Secretary of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Jammu, also met with the Lt Governor and submitted a memorandum addressing key concerns affecting the youth and traders in the region. The memorandum raised several critical issues, including:

  • Extension of Age Limit for Sub-Inspector Recruitment: Gupta demanded a one-time relaxation in the age limit for candidates applying for Sub-Inspector positions. He pointed out that the 22-month delay in the advertisement of 752 vacancies by the Home Department had led to many eligible candidates exceeding the age limit. He described this as an “injustice” and urged immediate intervention to ensure fairness in the recruitment process.
  • Continuation of Rs 28,400 Crore Industrial Package: Gupta emphasized the need for the continuation of the Central Government’s industrial package, which has played a transformative role in attracting major companies like Dabur, ITC, and Haldiram. The package has significantly contributed to employment generation and economic growth, and Gupta urged the administration to extend it to maintain the region’s industrial momentum and support local entrepreneurship.
  • Support for Existing Industries and Traders: Gupta also called for financial assistance for existing industries in Jammu that have long supported the local economy. He raised concerns over unresolved lease issues at the Narwal Fruit Mandi, where traders have faced financial instability due to the lack of lease renewal for over two years, preventing them from accessing government schemes and loans.

Through the memorandum, Gupta appealed to the Lt Governor to prioritize these issues to ensure sustained growth and prosperity for the youth and traders of Jammu and Kashmir. He expressed confidence in the administration’s commitment to addressing these challenges.

Representatives from Bharat Sevashram Sangha and Christian Sabha Meet Lt Governor
In addition, a delegation from Bharat Sevashram Sangha also called on the Lt Governor. Furthermore, a delegation from the All J&K Christian Sabha, led by its president Ashu Peter Mattoo, met with Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to discuss various community-related concerns.

These engagements reflect the ongoing efforts to address the diverse challenges and opportunities for growth within Jammu and Kashmir.
