JAMMU CONNECTED: CM OMAR ABDULLAH ASSURES REGION’S GROWTH WITH NEW RAILWAY DIVISION

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today dispelled concerns regarding the direct rail service between Kashmir and the rest of the country, affirming that the project will significantly benefit the Jammu region. Speaking at the virtual inauguration of the Jammu Railway Division by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Abdullah assured residents that his government will ensure robust economic growth stemming from the long-anticipated project.

Prime Minister’s Commitment to Connectivity
Addressing the function virtually from New Delhi, Prime Minister Modi hailed the Jammu Railway Division as a historic milestone in integrating Jammu and Kashmir into India’s national railway network. “This inauguration is a testament to our commitment to ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas,’ bringing unparalleled connectivity and opportunities to the region,” Modi said.

Abdullah lauded Modi’s efforts in infrastructure development, emphasizing the role of connectivity in fostering growth. He highlighted complementary projects like the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra expressway, the four-laning of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, and the Zojila and Z-Morh tunnels, which will ensure all-weather connectivity to Ladakh.

Addressing Local Concerns
Abdullah acknowledged apprehensions among Jammu residents, drawing comparisons to Pathankot’s economic challenges when rail service extended to Jammu. He reassured, “The rail service to Kashmir will not harm Jammu. On the contrary, it will enhance trade, tourism, and regional connectivity, benefiting both areas immensely.”

Abdullah highlighted the steep costs of air travel during winters, stating, “Airfares often surge to Rs 25,000 for a Rs 5,000 ticket. The new rail service will not only benefit passengers but also boost trade and industries with cargo train facilities.”

Jammu Railway Division: A Long-Pending Dream Fulfilled
Abdullah expressed gratitude for the establishment of the Jammu Railway Division, which now oversees 742.1 kilometers of railway tracks, including sections extending to Himachal Pradesh and Punjab. “This division ensures administrative control remains in Jammu, enabling better coordination and recruitment opportunities,” he said.

The Jammu Railway Division will manage critical projects such as the Chenab Bridge—the world’s highest railway arch bridge—and the Anji Khad cable-stayed bridge, both engineering marvels located in Reasi district. These projects symbolize progress and will facilitate economic prosperity across the region.

Expanding Rail Service Across Jammu and Kashmir
Reflecting on the railway’s expansion over the decades, Abdullah outlined its trajectory: from Pathankot to Jammu, then Udhampur, Katra, and now towards Srinagar and Baramulla. “In my previous tenure as Chief Minister, I inaugurated the Katra railway station. Today, under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, we celebrate another milestone,” he said.

He also emphasized future plans for extending the railway to Poonch-Rajouri in Jammu and beyond Baramulla in Kashmir. “This expansion will further unify the region, promoting tourism, trade, and cultural exchange,” Abdullah stated.

A Bright Future for Jammu’s Railways
Congratulating the people of Jammu and Kashmir, Abdullah affirmed, “The Jammu Railway Division is not just a development milestone but a promise of progress for generations to come.” The Chief Minister extended gratitude to Prime Minister Modi and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for their dedication to the region’s development.

As Jammu embraces its role as a key hub in India’s railway network, Abdullah’s assurances offer hope for a connected and prosperous future. With enhanced connectivity and infrastructure, the region is poised for a new era of growth and development.

Historic Day for Jammu & Kashmir as PM Modi Inaugurates Jammu Railway Division

In a landmark event ahead of the launch of train services to Kashmir, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the Jammu Railway Division from New Delhi. These structures will be pivotal in fostering economic growth and regional prosperity,” he said.

The Chenab and Anji Khad bridges, located in Reasi district, are critical components of the Katra-Baramulla railway track. Modi noted that these projects epitomize India’s commitment to “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas,” underscoring the Government’s dedication to holistic development.

Nitish Kumar Reaffirms Loyalty to NDA, Recalls Fond Memories of Atal Bihari Vajpayee

0

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday firmly dismissed rumors of a potential exit from the NDA, emphasizing his long-standing association with the BJP and the legacy of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

“Atal ji’s Affectionate Guidance”
Kumar, who is also the JD(U) president, fondly recalled Vajpayee’s unwavering support during his tenure as a Union minister. “Respected Atal ji made me a Union minister and always showed great affection towards me. He ensured all my proposals were cleared smoothly,” he said during his visit to Vaishali as part of the state-wide Pragati Yatra.

The Chief Minister also highlighted Vajpayee’s pivotal role in his political journey, revealing, “It was Atal ji’s wish that I become the Chief Minister when the NDA first won the assembly polls in 2005.”

Alliance with BJP “a Natural Choice”
Addressing speculation about his commitment to the NDA, Kumar clarified that his ties with the BJP were deeply rooted. He acknowledged past alliances with the RJD-Congress combine as “mistakes” and stated, “A couple of times, people in my party pushed for an alliance with the Congress-RJD combine, but I corrected that mistake both times.”

Speculations and Amit Shah’s Stance
Political circles were abuzz after Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent comments appeared ambiguous regarding Kumar’s projection as the NDA’s chief ministerial candidate in the upcoming assembly elections.

Adding fuel to the fire, RJD chief Lalu Prasad recently expressed openness to welcoming Nitish Kumar back into the fold, stating, “My doors are always open.”

Focus on Governance
Despite the political murmurs, Nitish Kumar remains focused on the developmental goals of his Pragati Yatra. His emphasis on unity and progress underlines his dedication to ensuring Bihar’s continued growth under the NDA umbrella.

Harbhajan Singh Lauds Jasprit Bumrah’s Heroics in Border-Gavaskar Trophy

Former cricketer Harbhajan Singh has hailed star pacer Jasprit Bumrah as the savior of India’s campaign in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, asserting that without Bumrah, India would have faced a humiliating 5-0 series defeat against Australia. Instead, the spirited pacer’s exploits limited the loss to a 3-1 margin.

Over 45 days of gripping cricket, Bumrah emerged as India’s standout performer, tormenting Australian batters and etching his name in history. His fiery spells were pivotal in India’s record-breaking 295-run triumph in the series opener in Perth. Bumrah’s relentless brilliance continued across the series, culminating in his tally as the highest wicket-taker with 32 scalps.

A Record-Breaking Performance

Bumrah’s extraordinary achievements in the series included three five-wicket hauls and a career-best 6/76, with an exceptional bowling average of 12.64. These efforts propelled him past Bishan Singh Bedi’s record of 31 wickets on the 1977-78 tour, making him India’s highest wicket-taker in a Test series against Australia on their soil.

Harbhajan’s High Praise

The former off-spinner, speaking on his YouTube channel, described Bumrah as a “national treasure” and credited him with single-handedly keeping India competitive.

“If Jasprit Bumrah wasn’t in this tour, the series would have ended 5-0. Jassi saved India in Perth and continued to do so in the remaining matches. Without him, it would have been a clean sweep in favor of Australia,” Harbhajan said.

Global Recognition

Bumrah’s dominance did not go unnoticed, with accolades pouring in from around the cricketing world. Australian batter Travis Head called it the best “individual performance” he had witnessed in Test cricket.

Despite India’s series loss, Bumrah’s heroics were honored as he was named Player of the Series, cementing his status as one of the most formidable bowlers in modern cricket.

India-US Strategic Partnership: EAM Jaishankar and US NSA Sullivan Hold Talks

0

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held extensive discussions with US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan in New Delhi on Monday, marking a significant review of the India-US global strategic partnership over the last four years under the Biden administration.

Sullivan’s visit comes just two weeks ahead of Donald Trump’s inauguration as the 47th President of the United States. The discussions highlighted critical areas of collaboration, including technology, defence, and regional security.

Strengthening Bilateral Ties

In a post on social media platform X, Jaishankar expressed his appreciation for Sullivan’s efforts, stating, “Delighted to meet US NSA @JakeSullivan46 in New Delhi today morning. Continued our ongoing discussions on deepening bilateral, regional and global cooperation. Valued the openness of our conversations in the last four years. Appreciated his personal contribution to forging a closer and stronger India-US partnership.”

The India-US Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET) took center stage during the talks. Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden in May 2022, iCET aims to foster collaboration in critical technologies, including artificial intelligence, semiconductors, biotechnology, and defence innovation.

High-Level Discussions with NSA Ajit Doval

Sullivan is scheduled to meet his Indian counterpart, NSA Ajit Doval, to further review progress under iCET and bilateral defence cooperation. A Biden administration spokesperson highlighted that the talks would span a broad spectrum of issues, from space and strategic technology cooperation to shared security priorities in the Indo-Pacific and beyond.

Major Advances in Defence Collaboration

The past four years have seen a significant upswing in India-US defence ties. In October, India signed a landmark agreement to procure 31 Predator long-endurance drones from US defence major General Atomics under the foreign military sales route. The $4 billion deal will bolster India’s military capabilities, particularly along its contested borders with China.

  • Distribution of Predator Drones:
    • Navy: 15 Sea Guardian drones
    • Air Force: 8 Sky Guardian drones
    • Army: 8 Sky Guardian drones

These high-altitude, long-endurance drones can remain airborne for over 35 hours and are equipped with advanced weaponry, including Hellfire missiles and 450 kg of bombs.

Transformative Initiatives in Technology and Minerals

In addition to defence, the iCET framework unveiled several transformative initiatives last year, including:

  • Collaboration in semiconductors
  • Development of critical minerals
  • Advances in telecommunications
  • Defence space cooperation

Strengthening Indo-Pacific Security

Sullivan’s visit underscores the shared commitment to ensuring stability in the Indo-Pacific region, reflecting the growing synergy between the two democracies in addressing global challenges.

Congress Unveils ‘Pyari Didi Yojana’ with Financial Aid for Women

0

The Congress party has announced an ambitious initiative, the ‘Pyari Didi Yojana,’ promising a monthly financial assistance of Rs 2,500 to women if the party is voted to power in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections.

This scheme, modeled on the successful framework implemented by the Congress government in Karnataka, aims to provide a substantial boost to women’s financial independence and address their economic challenges.

Launch Announcement

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar unveiled the proposal during a grand event in the capital. Addressing the gathering, he outlined the party’s vision for women empowerment and pledged swift action upon assuming office.

“Today, I have come here to launch the Pyari Didi Yojana. We are confident that a Congress government will be formed in Delhi, and on the first day of the new Cabinet, we will implement the scheme to provide Rs 2,500 to every woman in the capital,” said Shivakumar.

Party Leadership Supports the Initiative

The announcement was attended by prominent Congress leaders, including Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav, the party’s Delhi in-charge Qazi Nizamuddin, and other senior officials. They highlighted the party’s commitment to addressing social and economic disparities faced by women in the region.

Devender Yadav emphasized the scheme’s transformative potential: “This initiative is not just about financial aid. It is a step towards empowering women, ensuring they have greater control over their lives and families’ futures.”

Election Context

With elections for the 70-member Delhi Assembly slated for February, the Pyari Didi Yojana emerges as a pivotal element in the Congress party’s campaign. The party’s leadership expressed optimism about its chances, citing the success of similar welfare schemes in states like Karnataka.

Key Features of Pyari Didi Yojana:

  • Financial Assistance: Rs 2,500 per month for every woman.
  • Implementation Timeline: Immediate rollout following the first Cabinet meeting of the new Congress government.
  • Objective: To uplift women’s socio-economic status and enhance their financial independence.

Women-Centric Policies in Focus

The Pyari Didi Yojana reflects Congress’ broader strategy to prioritize women-centric policies. With increasing competition from other parties, the scheme’s announcement is expected to resonate with a significant voter base, especially women.

Conclusion

As the countdown to the Delhi Assembly elections begins, the Pyari Didi Yojana stands out as a bold promise by the Congress to address financial inequities and empower women. Whether this initiative will sway voters and shape the election outcome remains to be seen.

Punjab Roadways and PRTC Contractual Employees Begin Three-Day Strike

0

Contractual employees of Punjab Roadways and Pepsu Road Transportation Corporation (PRTC) commenced a three-day strike on Monday to push for their long-pending demands, including the regularisation of their jobs and a salary hike.

The strike has caused significant disruption across the state, leaving commuters stranded at various bus stands as approximately 2,800 buses of Punjab Roadways and PRTC remained off the roads.

Resham Singh Gill, President of the Punjab Roadways, Punbus, and PRTC Contract Workers’ Union, stated that around 8,000 contractual employees are participating in the strike. Demonstrations are being organized at all 27 bus depots in Punjab as part of the protest. “Our demands include the regularisation of jobs for contractual workers and a salary hike, which have been ignored for too long,” Gill said.

A meeting between the union and Punjab Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar was held recently to discuss these demands. However, no resolution was reached, leading to the decision to escalate the protest.

The union has announced plans to march toward Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s residence on Tuesday as part of their ongoing agitation.

The strike has severely impacted public transportation, with thousands of daily commuters facing difficulties. Passengers at bus stands across the state expressed frustration over the lack of alternatives and called for an immediate resolution to the issue.

While the state government has yet to respond to the strike, the union remains steadfast in its demands. “We will not back down until our legitimate demands are met,” said a protesting worker.

This strike highlights the growing discontent among contractual employees in the state’s public transport sector, underlining the need for urgent intervention to address their grievances.

Banihal Bypass Completed: A Milestone for Jammu & Kashmir Connectivity

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari, today announced the successful completion of a 4-lane, 2.35 km Banihal Bypass on NH-44. Gradual Traffic Release
Initially, traffic will be released on 2 lanes of the bypass, with the full 4-lane capacity expected to be operational within the next 15 days after the completion of junction development near Banihal Railway Station.

Enhanced Connectivity and Security

By significantly reducing congestion and travel time, it strengthens both regional connectivity and national security logistics. Moreover, the enhanced infrastructure will boost tourism prospects in the region, contributing to its economic development.

Project Overview and Delays
The Banihal Bypass project, initiated in January 2021, was originally scheduled for completion in December 2023 but faced a year-long delay due to unforeseen challenges. Stretching from Kharpora to Navayuga Tunnel, the bypass now diverts traffic away from Banihal town, easing congestion along the old alignment of the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway.

Official Statements
Project Director of National Highway, Ramban Sector, Shri P. K. Phonsa, highlighted the importance of the bypass: “This critical infrastructure ensures unhindered traffic flow, reducing bottlenecks and easing the daily commute for locals and tourists alike. The Ramban Bypass stretch has already been completed, and with the Banihal section now operational, the entire highway is significantly improved.”

Visionary Leadership
Shri Gadkari praised the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that the project aligns with the government’s vision to foster economic growth and position Jammu & Kashmir as a premier tourist destination. The bypass not only represents a leap in infrastructure but also underscores the government’s commitment to progress and development.
