Transport Commissioner Inaugurates Free Health Check-Up Camp for Drivers and Conductors

Transport Commissioner of Jammu and Kashmir, Vishesh Mahajan, inaugurated a free health check-up camp for drivers and conductors today at Bakshi Nagar Matador Stand. The initiative was organized by the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) Jammu in collaboration with the Health Department and the Minibus Union Jammu.

The camp witnessed participation from over 270 drivers and conductors, who availed themselves of various health facilities, including eye check-ups for color blindness and vision defects, as well as tests for blood pressure, blood sugar, hemoglobin levels, and more.

Speaking on the occasion, the Transport Commissioner highlighted the importance of personal health and hygiene for ensuring road safety. “The objective of organizing such medical camps is to raise awareness among drivers about the critical role of their health in safe driving practices,” he stated.

He further added that such initiatives would be conducted regularly to ensure drivers are fit and well-informed about their health. “A healthy driver ensures safer roads for everyone. These camps will not only benefit individuals but also contribute to the broader goal of road safety,” Vishesh Mahajan remarked.

The event received positive feedback from the participants, with many appreciating the efforts of the MVD and its partners in organizing such a thoughtful initiative. The Minibus Union Jammu also pledged its support for future health camps aimed at promoting driver well-being.

This initiative underscores the Transport Department’s commitment to fostering a culture of safe and responsible driving through regular health awareness and check-up programs.

Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA), Transport, Youth Services and Sports, Information Technology, Science and Technology, ARI & Training, Shri Satish Sharma, held a detailed meeting with Union Minister for Food and Public Distribution, New and Renewable Energy, Shri Pralhad Venkatesh Joshi, in New Delhi today. The discussions centered around key initiatives for Jammu and Kashmir in the domains of renewable energy, solarisation, and public distribution.

During the meeting, Shri Satish Sharma emphasized the importance of extending the Jammu Solarisation Scheme for an additional two years. This scheme has already benefited nearly 50,000 households. He also sought necessary assistance for solarising hospitals located in border areas as a measure of national interest and the solarisation of emergency and trauma centers in accident-prone zones.

The Minister further proposed the inclusion of 20 more villages (one in each district) under the Model Village Scheme, with each selected village receiving a financial grant of Rs. 1 crore to enhance infrastructure and development.

The discussions also covered improvements to the Public Distribution System (PDS) to ensure better service delivery and address the specific needs of the region. Shri Satish Sharma highlighted the necessity of continued support from the central government to advance the overall development of Jammu and Kashmir.

J&K Chief Secretary Emphasizes Collective Efforts to Combat Drug Menace

Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, while chairing the 12th UT Level NCORD Committee meeting, underscored the importance of strict enforcement of laws, victim rehabilitation, and massive awareness campaigns to address the growing drug menace in the Union Territory.

High-Level Meeting:
The meeting was attended by key officials, including DG Police, Principal Secretary Home, ACS Jal Shakti Department, Principal Secretary School Education, senior civil and police officers, and representatives from BSF, ED, and SIA. Outstation officers joined online.

Call for Collective Action:
Dulloo stressed the need for collaboration between the civil administration and Police Department. He emphasized:

  • Strict Action: Effective deterrents against drug dealers.
  • Strong Cases: Robust investigations and prosecutions to ensure convictions.

    • 69 police personnel (out of 175 cases).
    • 9 army personnel (out of 19 cases) penalized for involvement in NDPS cases.
