CM Omar Abdullah Stresses on Urban Planning for Sustainable Development in Jammu & Kashmir

In a series of high-level meetings today, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah emphasized the importance of adopting comprehensive urban planning strategies to foster planned development in urban areas across Jammu and Kashmir. The discussions centered on key policies and initiatives aimed at transforming the urban landscape and ensuring sustainable growth.

Urban Planning Strategies Reviewed
During the meeting, the Chief Minister was briefed on the implementation of several urban planning policies, including Land Pooling, Transfer of Development Rights (TDR), and Transit-Oriented Development (ToD). These policies are designed to streamline urban development while ensuring that growth is managed efficiently and sustainably.

Land Pooling Policy
A significant focus of the meeting was the Land Pooling Policy, which aims to encourage collaboration between private landowners and developers. Under this policy, landowners and developers will pool their land and seek authorization for development projects. A key feature of this policy is the allocation of land for essential infrastructure such as wide roads, parks, open spaces, and public amenities, with the remaining land being returned to the landowners on a proportionate basis.

The Chief Minister highlighted the potential of this policy to optimize land use while ensuring that urban infrastructure development is aligned with the growing needs of the population.

Other Key Policies
In addition to Land Pooling, the Transfer of Development Rights (TDR) and Transit-Oriented Development (ToD) were also discussed as essential tools to manage urban expansion. These policies are aimed at promoting sustainable development and improving the quality of life in urban centers by creating well-connected, vibrant, and eco-friendly spaces.

Solid Waste Management
The meeting also reviewed the state’s efforts in Solid Waste Management to ensure cleanliness and sustainability in urban areas. The Chief Minister directed relevant authorities to implement effective waste management practices that align with global standards and contribute to a cleaner and healthier environment.

Moving Forward
The Chief Minister called for swift and efficient implementation of these policies to accelerate the transformation of Jammu and Kashmir’s urban spaces. He stressed the need for coordinated efforts among urban governance agencies to ensure that these developments are carried out in a planned and responsible manner.

“We are committed to creating urban areas that are not only well-planned but also sustainable, livable, and future-ready,” said Omar Abdullah.

77th Army Day: A Celebration of Valour and Vigilance

0

In a strong message of readiness and resolve, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi emphasized the importance of preventing incidents like the Galwan Valley clash during the 77th Army Day celebrations in Pune. Addressing the nation, he assured that the situation along the northern border remains stable but sensitive, with the Indian Army fully prepared to handle any challenges.

“Whatever was done in Galwan should not get repeated,” the Army chief asserted, highlighting the necessity of a cohesive “whole-of-nation” approach. He stressed the role of diplomatic, military, and internal security efforts to ensure no surprises emerge in the future.

Northern Border: Securing the Nation

General Dwivedi highlighted the Army’s focus on modernizing equipment and developing critical infrastructure along the northern border. He stated, “The northern borders are safe because the Indian Army is deployed with the required strength to hold the fort.”

The Eastern Ladakh standoff with China, which began in May 2020, had strained relations between the two nations. The deadly clash at Galwan Valley in June 2020 was a stark reminder of the challenges along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). However, a recent agreement on patrolling and disengagement of troops has marked a significant breakthrough in reducing tensions.

Line of Control: Vigilance Continues

Turning to the Line of Control (LoC), General Dwivedi noted that the ceasefire is being maintained, though infiltration attempts persist. He praised the sustained efforts of security forces in Jammu and Kashmir, which have significantly reduced violence in the region.

Modernizing the Force

“We will continue on the path to make the Indian Army a modern, agile, adaptable, technology-enabled, and capable force,” the Army chief stated. The parade showcased cutting-edge platforms, including a fly-past by three Su-30 aircraft, alongside innovative advancements such as marching ‘robotic mules.’

Historic Army Day in Pune

For the first time, Pune hosted the Army Day Parade at the Bombay Engineers Group (BEG) and Centre under the Army’s Southern Command. The city’s rich heritage was highlighted as the Army chief described it as a “place of valour since the Maratha rule.”

The celebrations included unique milestones:

  • An all-girl National Cadet Corps (NCC) contingent.
  • An all-woman Agniveer contingent from the Corps of Military Police (CMP).
  • The debut of robotic mules in the parade.

A Tribute to Legacy and Innovation

The 77th Army Day celebrations in Pune reflected the Army’s deep connection with the nation’s heritage and its commitment to future readiness. As India looks ahead, the unwavering vigilance and modernization efforts of its Army stand as a testament to its resolve to safeguard the nation.

Delhi Polls: Congress candidate Sushant Mishra files nomination from Rithala

Congress candidate from Rithala assembly constituency Sushant Mishra filed his nomination on Wednesday.
Mishra is in the electoral fray against incumbent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Mohinder Goyal and Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Kulwant Rana.

On January 14, Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, campaigned for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections in Rithala.
He interacted with residents of Rithala, enjoying traditional “dahi-chura” with them on the occasion of Makar Sankranti.
Rahul Gandhi took to social media platform X to launch a scathing attack on Delhi Chief Arvind Kejriwal. Sharing a video showcasing alleged shortcomings in Delhi’s infrastructure and public services, Gandhi sarcastically said, “This is Kejriwal ji’s ‘shining’ Delhi – the so-called Paris of India!”
The scathing remark comes as the battle for Delhi heats up, with political leaders ramping up their campaigns ahead of the state elections.
Rithala Assembly constituency is one of the 70 Delhi assembly constituencies, located in the North West Delhi district. This assembly covers various sectors of Rohini, Rithala village, Budh Vihar and Vijay Vihar, according to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Delhi.

AAP’s Mohinder Goyal has been the incumbent Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Rithala since 2015. Goyal preceded the office by BJP’s Kulwant Rana, who won the 2008 and 2013 Delhi assembly elections from the constituency.
Rithala is one of the key constituencies in the North West Delhi district.
It is worth noting that Delhi Police had issued a notice to the incumbent AAP MLA Mohinder Goyal and his office staff to join the investigation in a case involving fake Aadhaar card documents, in which several Bangladeshis were arrested, and fake Aadhaar cards were recovered during the investigation, according to Delhi Police sources.
Responding to the allegations, Goyal termed the allegations as “politically motivated.”
With this, the battle for Rithala gained momentum with all three parties intensifying their preparations and campaigning for the elections.

The Delhi assembly polls will be held in a single phase on February 5 and the counting of votes will take place on February 8. The last date for filing nominations is January 17. The date for scrutiny of nominations is January 18. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is January 20.

The Congress, which was in power for 15 consecutive years in Delhi, has suffered setbacks in the last two assembly elections and has failed to win any seat. In contrast, the AAP eyeing a third term will go to the public, boosting its ‘performance’ in education and the health sector.
AAP won 62 out of the 70 seats in the 2020 assembly elections and BJP secured eight seats.
