Vice President Dhankhar Expresses Gratitude as Leaders Across Party Lines Inquire About His Health

0

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Monday expressed his deep gratitude towards leaders across party lines who reached out to his family to inquire about his health during his recent hospitalization for cardiac-related ailments.

Resuming his duties as the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Dhankhar shared that he was “greatly touched” by the concern shown by various political figures, which he believes contributed to his speedy recovery.

“The Leader of the House (Union Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda) and the Leader of the Opposition (Mallikarjun Kharge) were among the first ones to contact my family. Sonia Gandhi reached out to my wife, and several Chief Ministers, including West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, also inquired about my health,” Dhankhar revealed in the Upper House.

Warm Wishes from Political Leaders

While narrating his experience, Dhankhar highlighted the unity across party lines during times of personal difficulty. “This has been an enlightenment for me—when such situations arise, our hearts are connected. This will serve as a source of inspiration to me,” he said.

He further mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited him at AIIMS Delhi, where he was admitted on March 9 and later discharged on March 12 with medical advice to take adequate rest. Several other leaders wished to visit but were unable to due to hospital restrictions.

Lively Exchange with Opposition Leader

Recalling a lighthearted moment, Dhankhar shared an interaction with Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Derek O’Brien. “When I called Derek O’Brien to wish him on his birthday during my recovery period, he told me, ‘Shut up and take rest,’ irrepressible as usual,” Dhankhar said with a smile.

Back in Action

Monday marked Dhankhar’s return to the Rajya Sabha following his discharge. Welcoming him back, Union Minister JP Nadda wished him a speedy recovery, good health, and a long life.

Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge also expressed his appreciation for Dhankhar’s dedication to his duties. “I thought the Rajya Sabha Chairman would take another four to six days to return. His enthusiasm and commitment to work are commendable,” Kharge remarked.

With Dhankhar back in action, the Upper House resumed its proceedings, demonstrating that political differences take a backseat in times of personal adversity.

Ayodhya: The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust has contributed approximately ₹400 crore in taxes to the government over the past five years, reflecting a surge in religious tourism, Trust Secretary Champat Rai stated on Sunday.

He detailed that the amount was paid between February 5, 2020, and February 5, 2025, with ₹270 crore paid as Goods and Services Tax (GST) and the remaining ₹130 crore under various other tax categories.

Ayodhya’s Boom in Religious Tourism

Ayodhya has witnessed an unprecedented tenfold increase in the number of devotees and tourists, transforming it into a major religious tourism hub. This growth has significantly boosted local employment and economic activity, Rai noted.

  • During the Maha Kumbh, 1.26 crore devotees visited Ayodhya.
  • In the last year alone, the city recorded 16 crore visitors, with 5 crore devotees visiting the Ram Temple.

Financial Transparency & Auditing

Rai assured that the Trust’s financial records undergo regular audits conducted by officials from the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), ensuring complete transparency in its operations.

Amit Shah Lauds ABSU’s Role in Peace and Development in Bodoland

0

Kokrajhar, Assam – Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday addressed the 57th annual conference of the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU), highlighting its crucial role in establishing peace, development, and progress in the region.

Acknowledging ABSU’s Contribution
Shah emphasized that without ABSU’s involvement, the Bodo Accord would not have been possible, nor would peace have been established in Bodoland. “ABSU is advancing education, empowerment, and development. Thanks to its efforts, students can now take their exams up to the 12th grade in the Bodo language, ensuring its recognition and preservation for generations to come,” he said.

Implementation of the BTR Peace Agreement
Criticizing the Opposition for undermining the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) peace agreement signed on January 27, 2020, Shah stated, “Today, 82% of the agreement’s conditions have been fulfilled. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the central government will ensure 100% implementation in the next two years, bringing lasting peace to the region.”

He also highlighted key developments under the agreement, including the removal of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) from the entire BTR area on April 1, 2022.

Economic Growth and Industrial Development
Shah pointed out that Bodoland’s economic potential is gaining recognition through initiatives like the ‘One District, One Product’ (ODOP) program. “The mushroom from Kokrajhar, now known as ‘Mushroom from Bodoland,’ is featured on hotel menus in Delhi, thanks to the peace established in the region,” he noted.

The Home Minister also praised Bodoland’s ability to host the prestigious Durand Cup tournament and encouraged Bodo athletes to prepare for the 2036 Olympics, which India aspires to host.

Honoring Upendra Nath Brahma
Paying tribute to Bodo leader Upendra Nath Brahma, Shah announced that a major road in Delhi would be named Bodopa Upendra Nath Brahma Marg. Additionally, in early April, a bust of Brahma will be unveiled in Delhi to honor his legacy.

Boosting Industry and Job Creation
He stated that over a dozen products from Bodoland have received the Geographical Indication (GI) tag, fostering an industrial environment across the BTR region. “Earlier, Bodoland was associated with unrest and separatism, but now, education, development, and industry are shaping its future,” he said.

The central and Assam governments have allocated ₹1,500 crore for Bodoland’s development, despite its relatively small population of 3.5 million.

Rehabilitation of Former Militants
Highlighting peace efforts, Shah revealed that ₹287 crore has been spent on rehabilitating 4,881 former members of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) in Assam, with 90% of the funds provided by the central government.

He also commended Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for recruiting 400 Bodo youths into the Assam Commando Battalion. “The government has signed agreements with nine insurgent groups in Assam, integrating over 10,000 youths into the mainstream,” Shah added.

A New Era for Bodoland
“Where bullets once flew, today Bodo youth are waving the tricolor, sending a powerful message of peace to the nation,” he said.

Emphasizing the cultural significance of the Bathou religion, Shah described it as a profound spiritual tradition rooted in the five elements—fire, air, earth, sky, and water. He assured that both the central and Assam governments are committed to the region’s holistic development.

In his concluding remarks, he urged Bodo youths to focus on education and assured them of unwavering government support in their journey toward a peaceful and prosperous future.

Private Members’ Bills Flood J&K Assembly: Key Issues in Focus

Jammu and Kashmir’s Legislative Assembly is set to witness significant discussions as legislators have submitted 33 private members’ bills during the ongoing budget session. These bills address a wide array of issues, ranging from the appointment of the first-ever Lokayukta to the implementation of the Anti-Defection Law in District Development Councils (DDCs), prohibition on liquor, regularization of daily wagers, amendments in reservations, ownership rights of Evacuee Property, block-level recruitment, and the establishment of the J&K Legislative Forum for Monitoring and Protection of Human Rights.

April 8 has been reserved as the sole day for private members’ bills in the Assembly. However, how many of these bills will be listed and taken up for consideration will only be known on the day of business.

Appointment of Lokayukta

CPM MLA M.Y. Tarigami has introduced the Jammu and Kashmir Lokayukta Bill, listed as Bill No. 3 of 2025. The five-time legislator has emphasized the necessity of bringing the entire political leadership under the purview of Lokayukta to enhance accountability and transparency.

“Corruption still exists. To ensure a cleaner political and administrative structure, we need Lokayukta,” Tarigami stated. He also pointed out that the previously established State Accountability Commission (SAC) was never revived, despite many states having an active Lokayukta institution.

Call for Prohibition on Liquor

Four legislators have submitted separate bills seeking a ban on liquor in Jammu and Kashmir. NC veteran Ali Mohammad Sagar, Ahsan Pardesi (NC), Sheikh Khursheed Ahmad (Awami Ittehad Party), and Mir Mohammad Fayaz (PDP) have all called for the implementation of prohibition laws. Sheikh Khursheed, in addition to the liquor ban, has also sought a ban on online gaming and fantasy leagues.

Regularization of Daily Wagers and Contractual Workers

PDP’s Waheed ur Rehman Para and NC’s former Law Minister Saifullah Mir have tabled bills advocating the regularization of daily wagers and contractual workers. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had earlier assured the Assembly that a high-level committee would devise a roadmap to address this issue, with solutions expected in the next budget presentation.

Protection of Religious Properties and Evacuee Property Rights

BJP MLA Balwant Singh Mankotia has introduced the Jammu and Kashmir Temples and Land Protection Bill, which aims to restore encroached lands belonging to religious places. This issue has been raised frequently, especially in Kashmir, where land belonging to religious institutions has been illegally occupied.

Another BJP legislator has tabled the Jammu and Kashmir Evacuee Property Bill, advocating property rights for the original owners. His third bill seeks to introduce skill training programs for youth in line with the National Education Policy (NEP).

Implementation of Anti-Defection Law in DDCs

BJP MLA R.S. Pathania has put forth a crucial bill seeking the implementation of the Anti-Defection Law in District Development Councils (DDCs). While this law applies to Parliament, Assemblies, and Municipalities, it is currently not enforced in DDCs. Pathania stressed that implementing this law is essential to prevent political horse-trading at the district level.

Human Rights Monitoring and Block-Level Recruitment

Congress MLA Nizam ud Din Bhat has proposed the formation of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Forum for Monitoring and Protection of Human Rights. He has also introduced another bill advocating block-level recruitment to streamline employment opportunities in rural areas.

Reservation and Social Security Reforms

NC MLA Dr. Bashir Ahmad Veeri has submitted the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, highlighting the increasing significance of reservation policies in the region. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah recently assured that a Cabinet Sub-Committee will review the reservation framework and submit a report within six months.

NC MLA Mubarak Gul has introduced two bills: one seeking social security for unemployed technocrats and professional degree holders, and another concerning salaries, allowances, and other benefits for the Chief Whip in the Assembly.

Additional Key Bills

BJP MLA Pawan Gupta has tabled two bills—one related to compassionate appointments in government services and the other seeking amendments in excise regulations.

NC MLA Aijaz Jan has submitted a bill proposing amendments to the Jammu and Kashmir Public Men and Public Servants Declaration of Assets and Other Provisions Act.

NC MLA Tanvir Sadiq has presented the Jammu and Kashmir War Against Drug Abuse and Compulsory Teaching of Ill Effects of Drug Addiction in Schools Bill. This bill aims to include mandatory lessons in school curricula to educate students about the dangers of drug addiction.

With a plethora of significant issues being brought to the floor, it remains to be seen how many of these private members’ bills will be debated and passed in the Assembly on April 8. The upcoming session is expected to be a crucial one, shaping various legislative reforms in Jammu and Kashmir.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his hopes for peaceful bilateral relations with Pakistan during an exclusive interview on the Lex Fridman Podcast. Modi recalled how his goodwill gestures, including inviting then-Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to his swearing-in ceremony in 2014, were met with hostility and betrayal.

“Yet, every noble attempt at fostering peace was met with hostility and betrayal. We sincerely hope that wisdom prevails upon them and they choose the path of peace,” the Prime Minister said. He highlighted the struggles of the people of Pakistan who long for peace amidst unrest and terrorism.

India-China Relations: Strengthening Cooperation for Global Stability

Modi addressed India-China relations, emphasizing that while differences exist, they must not escalate into disputes. Referring to his recent meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, he stated, “After my recent meeting with President Xi, we have seen a return to normalcy at the border. We are now working to restore conditions to how they were before 2020.”

He underscored that India and China, as two ancient civilizations, have a shared history of cultural and economic exchanges. “Since the 21st century is Asia’s century, we want India and China to compete in a healthy and natural way. Competition is not a bad thing, but it should never turn into conflict,” he remarked.

PM Modi on His Relationship with Donald Trump

Reflecting on his camaraderie with former US President Donald Trump, Modi lauded his courage and dedication to the US. “He has a clear roadmap in his mind with well-defined steps, each one designed to lead him toward his goals,” he stated. Modi recalled Trump’s willingness to engage with Indian communities, as demonstrated at the 2019 ‘Howdy Modi’ event in Houston.

Modi refuted allegations surrounding the 2002 Gujarat riots, calling them an attempt at misinformation. He reiterated that court investigations had cleared his name despite his political opponents in power trying to hold him accountable. “Despite their relentless efforts, the judiciary analyzed the situation meticulously twice and ultimately found us completely innocent,” he said.

RSS and Modi’s Spiritual Foundation

The Prime Minister attributed his values and dedication to the teachings of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). “I feel blessed to have got values from such a sacred organization,” Modi said, describing how the RSS instilled in him a spirit of service and nationalism.

Modi’s Humble Beginnings: Lessons from Childhood

In a heartfelt reflection, Modi shared details about his early life spent in poverty. He reminisced about polishing his white canvas shoes with chalk paste, highlighting his mother’s emphasis on cleanliness and discipline. “My early life was spent in extreme poverty, but we never really felt the burden of poverty,” he said.

Spiritual Wisdom: Modi on Swami Vivekananda’s Teachings

PM Modi credited Swami Vivekananda’s teachings for shaping his perspective on selfless service. “From Vivekananda, I learned that true fulfillment comes not from personal achievements but from selfless service to others,” he noted. He recounted his time at the Ramakrishna Paramahansa Ashram, where he found guidance from saints and spiritual leaders.

Gayatri Mantra and India’s Spiritual-Scientific Legacy

During the podcast, Lex Fridman recited the Gayatri Mantra, seeking Modi’s approval of his pronunciation. Modi, in turn, explained the mantra’s deep connection with spirituality and science. “Gayatri Mantra is deeply rooted in Surya Upasana and carries a profound spiritual essence,” he stated.

His emphasis on peace, cooperation, and selfless service resonated deeply, reinforcing his vision of India as a strong, peaceful, and spiritually rich nation.

CM Omar Abdullah Opposes Ban on Mirwaiz Umar Farooq’s AAC, Says No Intelligence Shared

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has stated that the Centre did not share any intelligence with his government that could justify the recent ban on Mirwaiz Umar Farooq’s Awami Action Committee (AAC). He further asserted that he has never been in favor of such decisions.

The Union Government had recently imposed a five-year ban on AAC, led by the influential Kashmiri cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, along with Masroor Abbas Ansari’s Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (IM), citing their alleged involvement in anti-national activities, support for terrorism, and secessionist movements.

‘No Prior Intelligence Shared with State Government’

Speaking to reporters after the conclusion of the fifth edition of the Khelo India Winter Games, Abdullah said, “I do not know the basis of the ban. This decision does not fall under the purview of the elected government in J&K, and no intelligence report justifying it has been shared with us.”

However, he reiterated his government’s stance, stating, “On principle, we have never supported such decisions.”

Mirwaiz’s Recent Statements Under Scrutiny

Abdullah also mentioned that since the Mirwaiz was released from house arrest, he had not made any controversial statements that could warrant such a ban. “We do not have any information about the reasons behind the decision. However, we will see what can be done in the future,” he added.

When asked whether the ban was linked to Mirwaiz’s criticism of a recently held fashion show in Gulmarg, he dismissed the speculation, saying, “You cannot say that.”

The fashion show, which took place during the holy month of Ramzan, was widely criticized, with Mirwaiz stating that “obscenity in the name of tourism promotion will not be tolerated.”

Clarifies BJP’s Allegations About Hotel Ownership

Responding to allegations from the BJP that the Gulmarg hotel where the fashion show was held belongs to his relatives, Abdullah confirmed the ownership but downplayed any controversy.

“Yes, the hotel belongs to one of my relatives, and I am not denying that. In Gulmarg, there are two hotels—Nedous and Highland Park—that belong to my family. However, I have already spoken about this in the Assembly, and I have nothing more to add,” he said.

On potential action against the fashion show organizers, the CM remarked, “If any violation of the law has taken place, then appropriate action will follow.”

‘J&K Must Improve in Winter Sports’

Referring to the Khelo India Winter Games, Abdullah expressed disappointment over Jammu and Kashmir’s performance, as the region failed to secure a position in the top three of the medal tally.

“I congratulate the Army, Himachal Pradesh, and Ladakh for their achievements. However, I deeply regret that despite skiing originating from Gulmarg, we could not finish among the top three. This highlights the need for better infrastructure and coaching for our athletes,” he said.

The Chief Minister assured that his administration would prioritize infrastructure upgrades to ensure a stronger performance in future competitions. “By next year’s Khelo India Games, I hope J&K secures a position in the top three,” he concluded

KULDEEP KUMAR SO KASHI NATH RO BERA BHATA KISHTWAR

In a high-level meeting chaired by Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar, preparations for Shri Amarnathji Yatra (SANJY) 2025 were extensively discussed. The meeting was attended by Commissioner JMC, Deputy Commissioners of Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Udhampur, Reasi, and Ramban, who deliberated on the necessary arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of the annual pilgrimage.

The Divisional Commissioner sought detailed reports on lodgement centers and sanitation facilities in all districts falling along the Yatra route. He emphasized the need for adequate accommodation and hygienic conditions for the devotees. District Administrations were instructed to furnish data regarding existing lodgement centers, availability of toilet facilities, and additional requirements for infrastructure development.

Officials at the meeting reviewed last year’s arrangements and explored the scope for enhancing facilities for SANJY 2025. Deputy Commissioners were directed to expedite repair and restoration works for existing amenities and plan for new constructions to further augment facilities for pilgrims.

Apart from Yatra arrangements, the Divisional Commissioner also instructed the Deputy Commissioners to ensure robust preparations for the upcoming festival of Holi in their respective districts, with a focus on maintaining law and order and providing necessary civic amenities.

With comprehensive planning and proactive measures, the administration aims to ensure a seamless and comfortable experience for devotees undertaking the sacred journey to Shri Amarnathji in 2025.

ROHIT SHARMA NOT RETIRING FROM ODIs, EYES 2027 WORLD CUP GLORY

0

Australia’s legendary cricketer Ricky Ponting believes that Rohit Sharma still has unfinished business in ODI cricket, which has driven his decision to continue playing and leading India until the 2027 ODI World Cup, set to be jointly hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.

Barring the ODI World Cup, Rohit has secured all major ICC trophies while captaining India. The closest he came to lifting the prestigious 50-over title was in 2023, when India suffered a heart-breaking loss to Australia in the final.

Speaking on The ICC Review, Ponting shed light on Rohit’s determination to keep going.

“When you reach a certain age, everyone starts speculating about your retirement. But why should you retire when you’re still performing at your best? I think Rohit wanted to put an end to all these rumors and make it clear that he still loves playing and leading this team.”

Ponting believes that Rohit’s decision to extend his career suggests a clear long-term goal — winning the 2027 World Cup.

Rohit’s Leadership and Continued Dominance

Handed the captaincy in 2021 at 34, Rohit recently added another ICC trophy to his cabinet as India defeated New Zealand by four wickets to clinch the Champions Trophy on Sunday. Rohit led from the front, scoring a vital 76 off 83 balls, setting up India’s successful chase of 252 runs.

Before the tournament, speculation was rife that Rohit might retire from ODIs after the Champions Trophy, similar to his decision to retire from T20Is after winning the T20 World Cup last year. However, he dismissed all rumors in the post-match press conference.

“Just to clear things up, I am not retiring from this format. No more rumors, please,” Rohit declared after receiving the Player of the Match award.

Ponting: ‘ODI World Cup Is the Missing Piece for Rohit’

Ponting feels that the disappointment of the 2023 World Cup final loss has fueled Rohit’s hunger for another shot at the title.

“The fact that they lost the last one with him as captain is probably playing on his mind. He wants one more crack at the big three – the T20 World Cup, the Champions Trophy, and most importantly, the ODI World Cup.”

Ponting further stated that given Rohit’s stellar form, there is no reason for him to consider retirement anytime soon.

“When you see him play like he did in the Champions Trophy final, you can’t say his time is up yet,” Ponting added.

What Lies Ahead for Rohit and Team India?

With the 2026 T20 World Cup and 2027 ODI World Cup on the horizon, Rohit Sharma will continue to play a crucial role in India’s title aspirations. As he remains committed to leading India in ODIs, the cricketing world will keenly watch whether he can add the elusive 50-over World Cup to his already illustrious career.
