Deputy CM Launches Free Bus Service for Women in J&K

In a significant move aimed at promoting women’s welfare and enhancing public transportation, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Chowdhary today launched a free bus service for women across the region.

The initiative includes both electric buses and Jammu and Kashmir Road Transport Corporation (JKRTC) buses, ensuring safe, accessible, and cost-free travel for women, including working professionals, students, and daily commuters.

The launch event in Jammu was attended by the Commissioner of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) and senior officials from the concerned departments. The Deputy CM flagged off the service, marking the fulfillment of another key promise by the government.

Government’s Commitment to Women’s Welfare

Speaking at the event, Deputy CM Surinder Chowdhary reaffirmed the government’s dedication to addressing public concerns and improving essential services in Jammu and Kashmir.

“Since the formation of the present government, we have worked tirelessly to fulfill our promises, including restoration of statehood, protection of jobs and land, provision of free electricity, and now this free bus service for women,” he stated.

He further emphasized that the initiative aims to alleviate travel burdens faced by women while fostering their empowerment and security in public spaces.

Simplified Process for Women Passengers

During the flag-off ceremony, the Deputy CM interacted with women passengers, highlighting the government’s continued efforts to resolve longstanding regional concerns.

To avail the free bus service, women are only required to show their Aadhaar card to the bus conductor while boarding any government-operated bus, including e-Buses. Additionally, JKRTC has introduced POS machines, allowing conductors to register passengers by entering their Aadhaar details.

A Step Towards Inclusive Mobility

This pioneering initiative is expected to set a benchmark for women-centric policies in Jammu and Kashmir, promoting greater mobility and independence for women while ensuring safe and efficient public transport services across the region.

LG Manoj Sinha: No Need for UN Office in Srinagar, Future Lies in Development and Peace

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha stated today that there is no longer a need for the United Nations office in Srinagar, citing significant improvements in the situation. However, he clarified that the decision falls under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of External Affairs.

In an interview with a national news channel, Sinha responded to a query on whether the UN office should be shut down as the focus has now shifted to Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). “This matter is not within my domain; the External Affairs Ministry is best positioned to address it,” he said, adding, “But there is no need for a UN office in Srinagar anymore.”

Governance, Development, and Investments

The Lieutenant Governor emphasized that his administration has maintained good relations with the government. “Before an elected government is in place, our agenda is peace, development, investment, and job creation. If an elected government aligns with the same objectives, there will be no issues,” he asserted.

Asked to assess Omar Abdullah’s government, Sinha remarked that four months is too short a time to form an opinion. However, he affirmed a positive working relationship with the elected administration. He highlighted that under the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, the powers of the Lieutenant Governor and the elected government are well-defined. “Both have their respective roles. Together, we can drive Jammu and Kashmir further towards progress,” he said.

Over the past five to six years, he noted, Jammu and Kashmir’s economy has shown remarkable improvement. “Since 2017, the region’s economy has doubled, and per capita income has risen. Jammu and Kashmir Bank, which was running at a loss of ₹1,200 crore, is now recording a profit of ₹1,700 crore. There has been a tremendous turnaround,” Sinha stated.

He also highlighted the upcoming inauguration of train services to Kashmir by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which he believes will significantly boost connectivity and economic growth.

Return of Kashmiri Pandits and Peace in the Valley

On the subject of Kashmiri Pandits returning to their homeland, Sinha expressed optimism. “Most of their issues have been addressed. When peace is fully restored, they will return to their homes. Hopefully, that day will come soon,” he said.

Rejecting claims from certain politicians that peace in Kashmir is being “forced,” Sinha pointed out that Bollywood and Hollywood film shoots, Muharram processions, thriving cinema halls, booming tourism, and rising industrial investments are proof of a stable and peaceful Kashmir.

“This is the Government of India’s policy—to establish permanent peace in Jammu and Kashmir. Over the past five years, we have made great strides. Stone pelting is now history, businesses are flourishing, schools and colleges are functioning normally, and the aspirations of the youth are aligned with the rest of the country,” he added.

Security Situation and Neighboring Threats

The Lieutenant Governor acknowledged that whenever peace is established in Jammu and Kashmir, the “neighbor” (a veiled reference to Pakistan) feels uneasy. He noted that both the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections were conducted peacefully and were widely appreciated, both nationally and globally.

“Currently, no top terrorist commanders are left, and local recruitment into terrorist groups is at its lowest,” Sinha said. “People are walking along the banks of the Jhelum River late at night—this is a sign of normalcy. While some politicians may have their own compulsions for making statements, the people of J&K want peace to persist. All this progress is possible due to the leadership of the Prime Minister, the Home Minister, and a unified approach by the entire government.”

Action Against Government Employees with Terror Links

On the termination of government employees linked to anti-national activities, Sinha affirmed that the process will continue. “Identification and dossier preparation against such employees are ongoing, and appropriate action will be taken,” he said.

He concluded by stating that the government has provided 40,000 jobs in a transparent and merit-based manner, ensuring fair opportunities for the youth of Jammu and Kashmir.

Arshdeep Singh Credits Self-Criticism and Steady Improvement for His Success

0

Left-arm seamer Arshdeep Singh, who has developed into a specialist in death overs since his debut, credits his success to constructive self-criticism and consistently improving his game by even the smallest margin.

The 26-year-old, representing Punjab Kings in the IPL, played a crucial role in his team’s 11-run victory over Gujarat Titans, claiming key wickets of Sai Sudharsan and Sherfane Rutherford in their opening match of the season.

Discussing his growth as a cricketer, Arshdeep told JioHotstar: “The key is to improve by 1% to 1.5% after every game, every day — whether the performance was good or bad. I’ve always believed that the biggest room in the world is the room for improvement.

“So, whenever I get the chance, I engage in constructive self-criticism and strive to enhance my skill set, even if it’s just by 1% or half a percent.”

PBKS, currently captained by stylish batter Shreyas Iyer, are looking to break their long-standing jinx of never winning an IPL title. Arshdeep is optimistic about the team’s chances this season.

Speaking about his rapport with Shreyas Iyer and the new skipper’s leadership style, Arshdeep shared: “I have played under Iyer’s captaincy before in the Duleep Trophy, and I really enjoyed it. He always backed his players and gave them the freedom to express themselves.

“What I’ve observed here is that his approach remains the same — he doesn’t impose rigid instructions but encourages players to trust their skills and play for the team.

“He promotes a selfless mindset, assuring players of his full support. I really admire this, and as players, we will do our best to help him and contribute towards winning the title.”

Arshdeep, who has taken 78 wickets in 66 IPL matches and 99 wickets in 63 T20 Internationals for India, emphasized his willingness to step up in pressure situations.

“I enjoy stepping up when the team is under pressure — whether it’s stopping runs or taking wickets. When they hand me the ball in crucial moments, it feels good to know that they trust me.

“I genuinely enjoy the added responsibility, regardless of the situation. I try not to feel the pressure and instead focus on delivering my best for the team.

“Success doesn’t come overnight, but I ensure that any setbacks don’t affect my bowling. Every time I get another opportunity, I give my all to help the team win,” Arshdeep said.

Yogi Adityanath Slams Politics Over Language, Warns of Declining States

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has criticized the politics over language, asserting that states whose leaders engage in such divisive tactics are witnessing a gradual decline.

In an exclusive interview with PTI, Adityanath highlighted that Uttar Pradesh is generating significant employment opportunities, and narrow political debates over language could adversely affect the prospects of young job seekers.

“New job opportunities are emerging in Uttar Pradesh. People who are fueling language controversies may serve their political interests, but they are ultimately harming employment prospects for the youth,” the Chief Minister stated.

When asked if he was referring to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, Adityanath responded, “Whoever is engaging in such politics, they are responsible for their states’ decline. They have no substantial issues, so they resort to inflaming emotions for political gain.”

Advocating for National Unity Through Language

Adityanath emphasized that languages such as Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Bengali, and Marathi should serve as pillars of national unity rather than sources of division.

He pointed out that the Uttar Pradesh government has taken proactive steps to teach these regional languages in its educational institutions. “Does this diminish Uttar Pradesh in any way? Does it make UP look small?” he questioned, underscoring the importance of linguistic inclusivity.

Supporting the Three-Language Formula

The Chief Minister reiterated his support for India’s three-language formula, which promotes respect for Hindi while ensuring the preservation and dignity of regional languages.

“This formula ensures that regional languages receive due recognition. Every language has its own richness, which strengthens national unity,” he remarked.

Adityanath further stated that India’s diverse linguistic traditions enrich the country’s cultural fabric. He cited the Kashi Tamil Sangamam as a prime example of this unity, as it brings together two of India’s oldest languages—Tamil and Sanskrit—highlighting their shared heritage.

With Uttar Pradesh focusing on inclusive linguistic education and employment generation, Adityanath’s remarks underscore a broader vision of national integration through cultural and linguistic harmony.

Self-Styled Pastor Bajinder Singh Sentenced to Life Imprisonment in 2018 Rape Case

A court in Punjab’s Mohali on Tuesday sentenced self-styled pastor Bajinder Singh to life imprisonment in connection with a 2018 rape case.

The verdict was pronounced by Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ) Vikrant Kumar, bringing an end to the long-pending legal proceedings against the accused.

Bajinder Singh was found guilty on March 28 under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including Section 376 (rape), Section 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), and Section 506 (criminal intimidation). The case was initially registered in 2018 based on a complaint filed by a woman at the Zirakpur police station in Mohali.

Ahead of the pronouncement of the verdict, tight security arrangements were put in place at the court complex to prevent any untoward incidents. The judgment marks a significant ruling in the case that had drawn considerable attention from both legal and Christian community circles.

Authorities confirmed that Bajinder Singh will now serve a life sentence as per the court’s directive. The case has been closely followed due to its implications within religious communities and the broader issue of legal actions against self-proclaimed religious leaders involved in criminal activities.

Further details regarding potential appeals or additional legal proceedings remain to be seen. Meanwhile, law enforcement officials have reiterated their commitment to upholding justice and ensuring the safety of victims in such cases.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to visit Jammu and Kashmir on April 7 and 8 to conduct a high-level review of the security situation in the region. During his visit, Shah is expected to assess the security framework, visit the International Border (IB), and meet the families of police personnel who recently attained martyrdom.

According to official sources, the final itinerary of the Home Minister’s visit is being worked out and is expected to be announced within the next couple of days.

The Home Minister’s visit aims to strengthen security mechanisms and review counter-terrorism measures to prevent further infiltration attempts.

Visit to International Border and Martyrs’ Families A significant part of Shah’s visit will include an on-ground assessment of the International Border (IB), where multiple infiltration attempts have been reported from Pakistan. Security measures will be evaluated to ensure zero infiltration and the neutralization of terrorists who have managed to enter Indian territory.

Additionally, the Home Minister is expected to visit the families of some of the police personnel who lost their lives in the recent encounters, paying tribute to their sacrifices and reassuring them of the government’s commitment to national security.

Shah’s visit is viewed as a continuation of these efforts, ensuring that security forces remain vigilant and well-equipped to handle emerging threats.

This will be the Home Minister’s first visit to the region after the Assembly elections and the formation of the new government under Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. Conclusion Amit Shah’s visit to Jammu and Kashmir underscores the government’s proactive approach in dealing with security challenges in the region. The discussions and on-ground assessments during his tour will play a crucial role in shaping future strategies to curb terrorism, enhance security, and support the people affected by insurgent activities.

LSG Defeat SRH by Five Wickets as Shardul Thakur, Nicholas Pooran Shine

0

Shardul Thakur’s four-wicket haul and an explosive innings from Nicholas Pooran powered Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) to a five-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in an IPL match on Thursday.

Shardul, continuing his dream comeback, registered figures of 4/34 to help LSG restrict SRH to 190/9. Later, Pooran’s blazing 70 off just 26 balls (6x4s, 6x6s) helped LSG chase down the target in just 16.1 overs.

Pooran’s Power-Hitting Leads the Chase

LSG had a shaky start, losing Aiden Markram early, but Mitchell Marsh (52 off 31) and Nicholas Pooran ensured a quick recovery. The duo added 116 runs for the second wicket, completely dominating SRH’s bowling attack.

  • Pooran displayed breathtaking 360-degree hitting, smashing Simarjeet and Abhishek Sharma for huge sixes towards the square boundary.

  • He also took on Pat Cummins, hitting him for two boundaries in his first over, pushing LSG to 77/1 in the powerplay.

  • Pooran reached his half-century in just 18 balls, making it the fastest fifty of this IPL season.

His magnificent knock ended when Cummins trapped him LBW in the ninth over.

After Pooran’s dismissal, Marsh took charge, bringing up his 50 in just 29 balls. LSG skipper Rishabh Pant (15 off 15) didn’t contribute much, but Abdul Samad’s quick cameo ensured LSG got home comfortably.

Shardul Thakur Dismantles SRH Batting Lineup

Earlier, opting to bowl first, Shardul Thakur (4/34) gave LSG a fiery start by removing Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan off consecutive balls in the third over.

  • Sharma fell to a short ball, while Ishan edged an innocuous delivery down the leg side.

  • Travis Head (47 off 28) counter-attacked, smashing Avesh Khan for two sixes and a four in the fourth over.

Head got two lifelines when Nicholas Pooran dropped a simple catch at long-on, and Ravi Bishnoi missed a return catch. However, his luck ran out when Prince Yadav bowled him for his first IPL wicket.

  • Heinrich Klaasen (26 off 17) was looking dangerous but got run out in an unfortunate manner when a Nitish Reddy straight drive ricocheted onto the stumps off Yadav’s follow-through.

  • Young Aniket Verma (36 off 13) played a blistering cameo, smashing five sixes, before falling to leg-spinner Disvesh Rathi.

  • Skipper Pat Cummins (18 off 4) finished strong, hitting three sixes in his first three balls before departing.

Match Summary

SRH: 190/9 in 20 overs (Travis Head 47; Shardul Thakur 4/34)
LSG: 193/5 in 16.1 overs (Nicholas Pooran 70; Pat Cummins 2/29)

Result: LSG won by five wickets.
