Omar Abdullah’s NC Govt Exposed: Full Funds to Srinagar, Jammu Still Deprived of CAPEX Share

0

Jammu, 12 September 2025:

Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) has accused the NC-led elected government headed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah of indulging in blatant regional discrimination by depriving Jammu of its rightful share of CAPEX funds.

Addressing a joint press conference here at Party Headquarters today, BJP Spokespersons Gaurav Gupta and Zorawar Singh Jamwal in presence of party Media Incharge Dr. Pardeep Mahotra, revealed that both Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) and Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) were to receive around ₹40–50 crore each under CAPEX. However, while SMC has been granted full release of funds and is ready to begin developmental works, JMC is still awaiting nearly ₹26 crore—almost half of its allocation.

“This is a shocking example of step-motherly treatment. Despite Jammu facing devastation from cloudbursts, flash floods, and heavy rains which left roads, drains, water supply systems, and other civic infrastructure crippled, the Omar Abdullah government has not released even a single penny against JMC’s ₹60 crore proposal. The people of Jammu are being pushed to suffer while Srinagar marches ahead,” Gaurav Gupta said.

He stressed that the Housing & Urban Development Department (H&UDD), which is under the direct charge of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, has failed in its duty towards Jammu. “By releasing full funds to Srinagar while deliberately stalling Jammu’s share, the NC-led dispensation has once again exposed its anti-Jammu mindset. This biased governance is unacceptable and will be resisted at every level,” he added.

Gupta further said that if the pending ₹26 crore is released without delay, urgent works like retaining walls at vulnerable Nallahs, permanent road restoration, and strengthening of water supply systems can be immediately taken up. “Temporary repairs may give short-term relief, but without permanent solutions, Jammu will remain vulnerable during every monsoon,” he warned.

Calling for immediate corrective action, Zorawar Singh Jamwal asserted that the people of Jammu will no longer tolerate discrimination. “Our demand is crystal clear—equal treatment, timely release of funds, and accelerated development. The Omar Abdullah government must answer why it gave full funds to SMC but denied the same to JMC. This betrayal of Jammu will not be forgotten,” he maintained.

Concluding the press conference, Gaurav Gupta demanded immediate release of the pending ₹26 crore for JMC, stressing that Jammu deserves nothing less than equal treatment and justice.

Gunfire outside actress Disha Patani’s family home in Bareilly

Bollywood actress Disha Patani’s family residence in Bareilly came under attack early Friday morning when two unidentified assailants on a motorcycle opened fire outside the house.

The incident took place around 3:00 AM in the Civil Lines area, where Patani’s father, retired DSP Jagdish Patani, and other family members were present.

According to police reports, two rounds were fired before the attackers fled the scene. No injuries were reported, but the family was left shaken. Jagdish Patani immediately alerted the local police. A forensic team recovered two empty cartridges from outside the residence.

The attack has been claimed by the notorious criminal network led by gangsters Rohit Godara and Goldy Brar. In a threatening Facebook post, the gang claimed responsibility, stating that the firing was carried out in retaliation for alleged derogatory remarks made by someone associated with the Patani family against revered Hindu spiritual leaders Sant Premanand Maharaj and Aniruddhacharya Maharaj.

The post further warned that the incident was “just a trailer” and threatened that anyone disrespecting their religion or spiritual figures would face deadly consequences. The gang also extended its warning to the wider film industry, urging it to “respect Sanatan Dharma” or be prepared for similar actions.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anurag Arya confirmed that the case has been handed over to the Crime Branch, and five special teams have been formed to identify and apprehend the culprits. Additional police personnel have been deployed at the Patani residence to ensure the family’s safety.

“We are scanning nearby CCTV footage and have alerted intelligence units regarding the threat posed by Goldy Brar and his network,” said SSP Arya. He added that a formal case has been registered based on the family’s complaint and that security arrangements for high-profile individuals in the city are under review.

Pahalgam Terror Attack Crippled Tourism In Jammu And Kashmir: JKNC MLA Tanvir Sadiq

0

The Pahalgam terror attack collapsed the tourism industry in Jammu and Kashmir, causing a loss of crores of rupees in revenue, said JKNC MLA Tanvir Sadiq here on Saturday.

Talking to news agency on the sidelines of the Urban Conclave here, where he represented the Jammu and Kashmir government, Sadiq said several hundreds of hotel and ‘Shikara’ bookings got cancelled following the terror attack, causing a huge loss to the tourism industry there.

“Every booking got cancelled as tourists were scared to proceed with their travel after the terror attack. It crippled our tourism,” Sadiq, who is also the chief spokesperson and Communication Incharge of Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, said.

However, the industry has bounced back and the tourism flow to the Union Territory has been normalised, he claimed.

“Thanks to the people of this country, we are back on track and now more and more tourists are coming to Jammu and Kashmir,” he added.

Terrorists opened fire at a famed meadow near Kashmir’s Pahalgam town in April 22, 2025, killing 26 people, mostly tourists.

Sadiq said the apple farmers were also badly affected due to the political instability and terrorism in the Union Territory.

“It is normal that everyone suffers in a UT where there is no stability. We had huge issues with connectivity between Srinagar and other parts of Jammu and Kashmir and the farmers could not transport their produce,” he said.

The MLA said that the train introduced for the freight movement has helped the sector to revive slowly.

“What we demand is an increase in the frequency of train,” Sadiq said.

Congratulating the Kerala government for organising the Urban Conclave, Sadiq said Jammu and Kashmir has a lot to learn from the southern state, both on tourism and planned development.

“This conclave is a great one and we can also think about replicating such a policy in Jammu and Kashmir. We also have a lot to plan to take care of the extreme weather that causes huge damage in our state,” he added. (Agencies)

UNSC War of Words: Israel Reminds Pakistan of Bin Laden on Its Territory

0

Pakistan cannot change the fact that Al-Qaida chief Osama bin Laden was sheltered and killed on its soil, Israel has said, as it lashed out at Islamabad in the UN Security Council for its “double standards”.

“When bin Laden was eliminated in Pakistan,” Israel’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Danny Danon said, pointing his hand towards Pakistan’s UN Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, “the question asked was not ‘why target a terrorist on foreign soil’?” “No one asked that question. The question was, ‘Why was a terrorist given shelter at all?’ The same question must be asked today. There was no immunity for bin Laden, and there can be no immunity for Hamas,” Danon said.

The sharp exchange between the envoys of Israel and Pakistan came on Thursday at a Security Council meeting held to discuss the Israeli attack on Hamas leaders in the Qatari capital of Doha.

In his remarks, Ahmad strongly condemned what he called Israel’s “illegal and unprovoked aggression” against Qatar, terming it part of a “broader and consistent pattern of aggression” that undermines regional peace.

The Pakistani envoy accused Israel of repeatedly violating international law through “brutal” military actions in Gaza, and repeated cross-border strikes in Syria, Lebanon, Iran and Yemen.

The UNSC meeting took place on the 24th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks in New York City, orchestrated by bin Laden.

Danon said “that tragic day (9/11), like October 7 for Israel, was a day of fire and blood”.

He recalled that in the days following the 9/11 attacks, the Security Council had adopted a resolution, which stated that no nation may harbour terrorists, nor fund them and give them haven.

“Any government that does so breaks this Council’s binding obligations. That principle was clear then; it must be upheld today,” the Israeli envoy said.

Ahmad took the floor again to respond to Danon’s statement.

“It is unacceptable, indeed ludicrous for an aggressor, an occupier, a serial violator of the UN Charter and international law, that is Israel, to abuse this chamber and disrespect the sanctity of this Council. This is not the first time. And by pointing fingers at others, baseless assertions primarily aimed at masking its own illegal actions and violations of international law,” he said.

In a strong retort, Danon said if the Pakistani envoy wanted to read the statement, he could have done it at the beginning of the session.

“The fact is that Osama bin Laden was killed in Pakistan, and no one condemned the US. And when other countries in this Council attack terrorists, no one condemns them. And that is the issue of double standards. When you apply different standards to Israel than the standards you apply to yourselves, that is the problem of this institution.

“…you cannot change the fact that 9/11 happened… You cannot change the fact that Osama bin Laden was in Pakistan, and he was killed on your territory. But I would ask you, when you criticise us, and I’m sure it will continue in the future, think about the issue of double standards, which standards you apply to your country and which standards you apply to Israel,” Danon said.

US forces eliminated bin Laden in a special operation conducted in May 2011 at Abbottabad in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, where the Al-Qaeda leader had been hiding. (Agencies)

Kashmir Tourism Hit Hard Since April 22, But We Must Bounce Back: Farooq Abdullah

0

National Conference president Dr. Farooq Abdullah on Sunday said the April 22 incident dealt a heavy blow to Kashmir’s tourism industry, but stressed that restoring public confidence and reviving tourism remain vital for the valley’s economy.

Speaking to news agency, Dr. Farooq said, “Since the April 22 episode, tourism has suffered a severe setback. Tourism is essential for Kashmir’s economy. The poor and the well-off alike depend on it.

Winters shut us down for six “months; all the income is earned in the summer months and spent during winter. That’s why, after April 22, we have tried hard to remove fear among the people of the valley.”

The incident on (22 april) happened it was not our doing but all of Kashmir stood against it.”

Noting efforts to bring visitors back, he welcomed initiatives aimed at projecting normalcy. “It is good that our friends are promoting events they even organised the gold tournament so a message goes out at all times that conditions here are improving. Come and enjoy our hospitality,” he said.

On the long-standing demand for restoration of statehood, Dr. Farooq expressed cautious optimism. “God willing, we hope this will happen. Delhi will pay attention to it. The Prime Minister will see the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir to have their statehood restored,” he told reporters.

When asked about periodic disruptions that follow phases of calm citing controversies around waqf and the Doda incident Dr. Farooq observed that such incidents have been part of the region’s troubles for decades.

“These things will continue to occur; we have suffered since 1947. This is not a new phenomenon, but we must come out of it. Nothing is static. I hope conditions improve here. Our leaders must understand that to make things better we must also pay heed to the aspirations of our people,” he said. (KNC)

No Fresh Protests, But Security Tightened in Doda; Curbs Continue

0

Security was heightened in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, even as an uneasy calm prevailed over the mountainous region after authorities clamped prohibitory restrictions for the fourth consecutive day.Local history books

Several people have been detained in Doda following violent clashes between security forces and protestors agitating against the arrest of Aam Aadmi Party MLA Mehraj Malik under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA) earlier this week. The Doda MLA, who was arrested for disturbing the public order, was later lodged in Kathua jail. On Wednesday evening, police had held a peace committee meeting chaired by Deputy Inspector General of Police Shridhar Patil to expedite restoration of peace and normalcy in the region.

Prohibitory orders remained in force in Doda and Bhalessa towns, where mobile internet and Wi-Fi services continued to remain suspended as a precautionary measure.

“The situation remained calm overnight with no fresh protests. However, elaborate security measures are in place, with heightened security in sensitive areas,” said an official.

The security has been beefed up and patrolling intensified in Doda town in view of the Friday prayers, he said.

The deployment was strengthened around Doda town, Bhaderwah, Gandoh and Thathri amid high tensions over alleged administrative high-handedness. Concertina wires were installed near government offices to prevent untoward incidents.

Police vehicles patrolled the area, making announcements urging residents to stay indoors.

In Bhaderwah town nevertheless, a semblance of normalcy prevailed with shops and business establishments operating on Friday.

DIG Shridhar Patil assured people that the situation is almost under control. “We want to tell the people of Chenab Valley that the situation is by and large under control. Efforts are on to bring back complete normalcy. We are moving towards that,” the DIG told reporters on Thursday night.

He said around 40 citizens from Doda city and surrounding areas participated in discussions at the meeting, during which they shared valuable suggestions.

“I want to thank the people of Doda for their cooperation in ensuring peace. We had detained 60-70 people during the incident; several of them have been released on bonds. There are no casualties,” he said.

The district saw protests and violent clashes on Monday and Wednesday as protesters tried to defy restrictions, prompting the security personnel to resort to baton charges at several places. Several protesters were detained, while some of them were released later.

Eight police personnel, including a deputy superintendent of police and a station house officer, were reportedly injured during the clashes.

The chief education officer has ordered that all schools in the district will remain closed until Sunday. The business establishments would also remain shut.

Describing Malik as a government critic, the district administration said his arrest was based on “provocative speeches and abusive language” on social media, allegedly aimed at disturbing peace.

In the meantime, Malik’s father Shamas Din Malik has appealed for his son’s release, stating he no longer wished to pursue the matter in courts. “I want my son back. I met Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who said he would see what he could do,” he said.

Shamas Udin, who was briefly hospitalised after collapsing from weakness and stress following his son’s detention, apologised for the language used by his son and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to facilitate his release.

The AAP has accused the Central government of targeting the party politically. At a protest in Jammu, AAP MP Sanjay Singh on Wednesday condemned the arrest, stating the party would continue its struggle “against injustice on the streets, in Parliament, and if necessary, in the Supreme Court.”

On Thursday, high drama unfolded at Circuit House in Srinagar as former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah was prevented from meeting AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, who was detained on the premises to prevent him from protesting against Malik’s arrest.Local history books

PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday night described the situation in Doda as “deeply disturbing,” criticising the administration’s handling of the unrest.

“An internet blackout has been imposed, schools have been shut, and curfew has been enforced in Doda district. Alarming reports suggest that roads are being deliberately blocked, depriving people of their fundamental right to movement,” she said.

This is the first time a sitting MLA in Jammu and Kashmir has been taken into custody under the stringent law, which allows detention without charge or trial for up to two years in some cases.
