0

The Indian Air Force’s “bold and precise” attacks on enemy targets during Operation Sindoor restored the rightful place of offensive air action in the national consciousness, Air Chief Marshal AP Singh said on Wednesday.

The Chief of Air Staff also said that his force has proved to the world how air power can be effectively used in shaping military outcomes in just a few days.

Air Chief Marshal Singh was addressing air warriors on the occasion of the Air Force Day at the Hindon air base.

“Our performance in Operation Sindoor fills us with professional pride. We proved to the world how air power can be effectively used in shaping military outcome in just a few days,” he said.

The Chief of Air Staff described Operation Sindoor as a shining example of what can be achieved through “meticulous planning, disciplined training and determined execution.” “India’s bold and precise attacks restored the rightful place of offensive air action in the national consciousness,” he said.

“Our robust air defence architecture and offensive employment of long-range surface to air missiles systems limited the adversary’s ability to operate and ensured safety of our vital assets,” he said.

“The outstanding performance of the indigenously developed and integrated weapons which delivered precise and devastating blows deep inside enemy territory, vindicates our faith in home-grown capabilities,” he said.

Air Chief Marshal Singh noted that the increasing pace of integration of new systems, weapons and equipment into the IAF’s operational plans has been a “significant success”.

“I can see that there is an increased culture of accountability, safety and security amongst the air warriors and this is directly reflected in our reduced incidents and accidents,” he said.

“At all levels, leaders are leading from the front, demonstrating exceptional vision and empathy. They are ensuring that every individual is empowered with the necessary training and is motivated,” he added. (Agencies)

Analysts said the rally in bullion was underpinned by a mix of safe-haven buying, falling bond yields, and rising expectations of further US interest rate cuts.

Jigar Trivedi said the ongoing US government shutdown, now in its second week, has delayed key economic data, complicating assessments of the country’s economic health. “Despite this uncertainty, traders are pricing in 25 basis point rate cuts in October and December by the Fed,” he added.

Manav Modi, Analyst – Precious Metal Research at Motilal Oswal Financial Services, said the ongoing political turmoil in France and a recent leadership change in Japan are adding further layers of uncertainty for global markets and boosting demand for the safe-haven bullion.

Meanwhile, a new report by the World Gold Council (WGC) released on Tuesday said global gold-backed ETFs recorded their largest quarterly inflows on record during the three-month period ending September.

“Inflows into gold exchange traded funds (ETFs) hit USD 64 billion year-to-date globally, with a record USD 17.3 billion in September,” the report said.

India Achieves ₹1.2 Lakh Crore in Domestic Defence procurement by the end of the financial year 2024-25, marking a major stride toward self-reliance in defence manufacturing, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said on Tuesday.

Speaking at an event in New Delhi, Singh highlighted that the government is prioritising indigenous production to strengthen India’s defence preparedness and technological independence in the face of evolving security threats.

“In 2021-22, our capital acquisition from domestic sources was around ₹74,000 crore. By the end of 2024-25, it has increased to approximately ₹1,20,000 crore,” Singh stated, adding, “This change is not just about data, but also about mindset.”

He said this growth proves that India Achieves ₹1.2 Lakh Crore in Domestic Defence through strong policy direction and the determination to build an independent and advanced defence ecosystem.

Focus on Modern and Non-Contact Warfare

The Defence Minister underlined that the nature of warfare is evolving rapidly, with non-contact and technology-driven combat — including drones, anti-drone systems, and advanced air defence technologies — becoming critical for national security.

“The Government of India is fully aware of the changing nature of modern warfare. Today’s warfare has become completely technology-oriented. We saw a clear demonstration of this in Operation Sindoor,” Singh said.

He added that India Achieves ₹1.2 Lakh Crore inhttps://himalayanexpress.in/ Defence by aligning its military capabilities with future warfare requirements through indigenous innovation and technological integration.

Boost to ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ in Defence

Singh credited the rise in domestic procurement to a series of policy reforms introduced under the Modi government, aimed at strengthening Aatmanirbhar Bharat in the defence sector.

“The highest priority is now being given to domestic sourcing in the procurement of military hardware,” he noted.

The minister said that India Achieves ₹1.2 Lakh Crore in Domestic Defence because of initiatives like the Defence Production and Export Promotion Policy, positive indigenisation lists, and enhanced public-private collaboration in defence manufacturing.

These steps, Singh said, have not only reduced India’s dependence on imports but also opened new opportunities for the private and startup ecosystem to contribute to national defence.

Vision 2047: A Developed and Self-Reliant India

Outlining his long-term vision for the defence sector, Rajnath Singh listed three key goals aligned with India’s ambition to become a developed nation by 2047:

  1. Achieve a high degree of self-reliance in critical defence technologies.
  2. Emerge as a global leader and exporter in defence manufacturing.
  3. Drive innovation in cutting-edge and niche technologies shaping the future of warfare.

He reaffirmed that India Achieves ₹1.2 Lakh Crore in Defence as part of a broader roadmap to make the nation both secure and globally competitive in military production.

“India’s growing focus on indigenous production will not only enhance national security but also make the country a major global defence exporter,” Singh concluded.https://himalayanexpress.in/

0

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Sunday announced that Bihar will go to polls in two phases on November 6 and 11, with vote Counting on November 14 setting the stage for a high-stakes battle between the ruling NDA government led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and the opposition alliance comprising the RJD, Congress, and other parties.

With this announcement, the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has come into effect across the state.

Key Election Dates

  • Phase 1: November 6 — polling in 121 constituencies
  • Phase 2: November 11 — polling in 122 constituencies
  • Counting on November 14

In the 243-member Bihar Assembly, the ruling NDA currently holds 138 seats, while the opposition alliance controls 103.

A New Political Force Emerges

This election introduces a third frontPrashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party — which is expected to make the contest more dynamic.
Adding to the pre-election buzz, the Election Commission has recently concluded a Special Intensive Review (SIR) of voter lists, which Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar described as a “shuddhikaran” (purification) process.

Voter Statistics

According to the CEC, 7.42 crore voters will be eligible to vote across 90,712 polling stations, all of which will be webcast-enabled to ensure transparent polling.
The state has 3.92 crore male and 3.5 crore female voters. Nearly 14,000 voters are aged 100 years or above, and around 14 lakh will be first-time voters.https://himalayanexpress.in/

Voter List Purification and Deletions

Kumar revealed that approximately 69 lakh names have been deleted during the SIR of electoral rolls. However, he declined to specify how many deletions were due to non-citizenship issues.

“A breakup cannot be given in a decentralised set-up. The Electoral Registration Officer prepares the voter lists, which can be appealed before the District Magistrate or Chief Electoral Officer,” Kumar explained.

He added that most deletions were due to deaths, migration, or unproven citizenship, and that this data had already been shared with political parties.

Election Reforms and Transparency Measures

In response to political demands, the CEC announced that counting of postal ballots will now be completed before the last two rounds of vote counting.
Calling the upcoming Bihar elections the “mother of all elections”, Kumar said the Commission will implement 17 new initiatives, which may later be replicated nationwide.

“Thanks to the SIR, the upcoming Bihar elections could be the most transparent in India’s electoral history. Bihar will show the way to the rest of the country on voter list purification,” Kumar stated confidently.

Clarification on Voter Identification

When asked about the identification of women voters wearing burqa or ghunghat (veil), Kumar affirmed that the Election Commission’s verification guidelines would be strictly followed inside polling booths to ensure transparency and respect for privacy.https://himalayanexpress.in/

Digital Arrest Scam: J&K Police Arrests 3 From Gujarat For Duping Jammu Trader Of Rs 4.4 Crore

The cyber wing of Jammu and Kashmir police has uncovered an online fraud involving Rs 4.4 crore with the arrest of three accused from Gujarat’s Surat who had kept a Jammu-based businessman under digital arrest, police said on Tuesday.

The fraud came to light on September 2 when the businessman lodged a written complaint at the cyber police station here, alleging that he had been defrauded of huge amounts of money by cyber criminals impersonating as law enforcement officials, Senior Superintendent of Police, Jammu, Joginder Singh said.

The SSP said the fraudsters falsely accused the complainant of being involved in money laundering using his Aadhaar and SIM credentials.

After keeping him under digital arrest, they deceitfully coerced the victim into transferring Rs 4,44,20,000 across multiple bank accounts through a series of transactions, Singh said.

The officer said an FIR under Section 66D of the Information Technology Act read with relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered and a detailed investigation was launched.

During the investigation, the cyber police team traced the money trail, examined bank transactions, scrutinised mobile communications, and analysed digital footprints linked to the fraud, he said, adding the investigation revealed that the network involved in the fraud was primarily operating from Gujarat.

Based on credible intelligence, a special investigation team was deputed to Surat and in a well-coordinated operation, three accused — Chauhan Manish Arunbhai, Ansh Vithani and Kishorbhai Karamshibhai Diyoria –- were arrested, he said.

He said the arrested individuals were subsequently brought to Jammu for sustained interrogation to identify other co-conspirators, uncover additional evidence, and trace further financial links associated with the crime.

Terming the arrest of the accused as a “major breakthrough”, the SSP said the cyber police Jammu has so far frozen Rs 55,88,256.74 across various bank accounts linked to the accused

Efforts are actively underway to reverse and refund the defrauded amounts to the complainant, out of which Rs 6 lakh has already been credited back to the victim’s account, the officer said.

On Monday, the first chargesheet in the case was filed in the court against the arrested accused, he said.
