Washington [US], Oct 15: In perhaps the most candid statement made against it, US President Joe Biden described Pakistan as “one of the most dangerous nations” in the world with holds “nuclear weapons without any cohesion.”
The US President made these remarks at a Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Reception in Los Angeles (California), during which he berated both China and Russia.
The remarks on Pakistan were made while Biden was talking about US foreign policy with regard to China and Vladimir Putin’s Russia. Biden concluded by saying he considered Pakistan to be the most dangerous country in the world.
“This is a guy (Xi Jinping) who understands what he wants but has an enormous, enormous array of problems. How do we handle that? How do we handle that relative to what’s going on in Russia? And what I think is maybe one of the most dangerous nations in the world: Pakistan. Nuclear weapons without any cohesion,” said Biden, as quoted in a White House press release of his remarks at the Democratic party event.
Biden’s remarks could be seen as a setback to the Shehbaz Sharif government’s bid to improve ties with the US.
At the event, Biden said there were enormous opportunities for the US to change the dynamic in the second quarter of the 21st century.
“So, folks, there’s a lot going on. A lot going on. But there’s also enormous opportunities for the United States to change the dynamic in the second quarter of the 21st century,” the US president said.
These comments come two days after the release of the US’ National Security Strategy. The 48-page document makes no reference to Pakistan.
On Wednesday, the Biden administration released the Congress mandated key policy document, underlining the threat posed to the US by both China and Russia.
The National Security Strategy states that China and Russia who earlier this year announced a “no-limits partnership” are increasingly aligned with each other but the challenges they pose are distinct.
“We will prioritize maintaining an enduring competitive edge over the PRC while constraining a still profoundly dangerous Russia,” it adds.
The policy document contends that competition with China is most pronounced in the Indo-Pacific, but it is also increasingly global.
The US Security Strategy highlighted that the next ten years will be a decisive decade of competition with China.
On the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the document says Moscow’s “imperialist foreign policy” culminated “in a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in an attempt to topple its government and bring it under Russian control.” (Agencies)

JAMMU, Oct 15: As a weak, feeble autumn sun continued to shine in Jammu and Kashmir, the Met department said on Saturday that dry, weather conditions are likely to continue for the next 24 hours.
A Department official also said that minimum temperatures are likely to drop further during the next 48 hours.
On Saturday, Srinagar recorded 6.6, Pahalgam 2.2 and Gulmarg 3.4 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature, while Drass town in Ladakh region had minus 2.2, Kargil 3 and Leh minus 0.4.
Jammu registered 17.7, Katra 15.2, Batote 9.6, Banihal 6 and Bhaderwah 7.2 as the minimum temperature. (Agencies)

Nagpur, was the worthy speaker of the session. He deliberated on the requirements for
filing a patent/copyright. He also explained what and how ideas/innovations can be
protected through patents and copyrights.Dr Borkar also highlighted how someone can look
up ideas to innovate in their day-to-day life, where we can apply our innovation. The
program was attended by 297 pan-India participants which included college freelancers,
students, research scholars and college faculties. The session ended with a vote of thanks

IED found in North Kashmir’s Bandipora, bomb disposal squad called in
Srinagar, Oct 15: Security forces on Saturday detected an improvised explosive device (IED) in Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.
The IED, weighing around 16 kg, was fitted with two gas cylinders, they said.
A joint team of police and Army detected the IED in Astango area of the north Kashmir district, they said.
A bomb disposal squad was called for disposal of the explosive device, they added. (Agencies)

Hyderabad, Oct. 15: Hyderabad has won the overall World Green City Award 2022′ and another in the category Living Green for Economic Recovery and Inclusive Growth’ at the International Association of Horticulture Producers (AIPH) 2022 World Green City Awards 2022 held in Jeju, South Korea on October 14. Hyderabad bagged the coveted World Green Cities Award beating Paris, Bogota, Mexico City, Montreal, and Fortaleza in Brazil.
According to an official release issued on Friday, Hyderabad is the only Indian City that was selected and it is a matter of pride for Telangana and India that has won not only the category award but the overall World Green City 2022′ award, the best across all 6 categories.

Former Chief Justice Shot Dead In Terrorist Attack In Pakistan’s Balochistan
Islamabad, Oct 15: A former high court chief justice of Pakistan’s Balochistan province was shot dead outside a mosque on Friday, police officials said.
Assailants opened fire at Muhammad Noor Meskanzai outside the mosque in the Kharan area, which left him gravely injured, Kharan Superintendent of Police Asif Halim told Dawn.
The former chief justice was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died of his injuries, the report said.
Expressing condolences over the death of the “fearless judge”, Balochistan chief minister Mir Abdul Qudoos Bizenjo said his services were “unforgettable”.
Bizenjo said that the “cowardly attacks of the enemies of peace cannot intimidate the nation”.
Maskanzai authored the landmark judgement that declared the Riba-based banking system against the Sharia.
Quetta Bar Association (QBA) President Ajmal Khan Kakar also condemned Muskanzai’s killing. He said every citizen of Pakistan was deeply saddened by the death of the former judge.
“We strongly condemn this incident and demand that the killers must immediately be arrest and brought to book,” Ajmal Kakar was quoted as saying by Dawn.
This comes amid the deteriorating security situation in the country.
Earlier this month, Pakistan’s State Minister for Law Shahadat Hussain conceded that terror activities had witnessed a sharp increase.
The highest number of terror incidents in Pakistan this year was recorded in September, said an Islamabad-based think tank pointed to the resumption of attacks by the outlawed Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
The number of terror attacks increased in September compared to August this year, the Dawn said in an earlier report citing the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS).
September witnessed 42 terrorist attacks with an increase of 35 per cent compared to August. The Pakistani think tank also observed an increase of 106 per cent in violence in erstwhile Fata and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
In August this year, the think tank said the militants carried out 31 attacks across Pakistan, in which 37 people were killed and 55 others injured. (Agencies)
India reports 2,430 new COVID-19 cases
New Delhi, Oct 15: With 2,430 new coronavirus infections being reported in a day, India’s tally of COVID-19 cases rose to 4,46,26,427, while the active cases have increased to 26,618, according to the Union health ministry data updated on Saturday.
The death toll due to the disease has climbed to 5,28,874 with 17 fatalities, which includes 9 deaths reconciled by Kerala, the data updated at 8 am showed.
The active cases comprises 0.06 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has increased to 98.76 per cent, the health ministry said.
An increase of 35 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.
The daily positivity rate was recorded at 1.01 per cent. The weekly positivity rate was recorded at 1.07 per cent, according to the health ministry.
The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 4,40,70,935, while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.19 per cent.
According to the ministry, 219.27 crore doses of Covid vaccines have been administered in the country so far under the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive.
India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 2020, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16.
It went past 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20 and surpassed the one-crore mark on December 19.
India crossed the grim milestone of two crore on May 4, three crore on June 23 last year and four crore on January 25 this year. (Agencies)
Twitter to soon allow users ability to control who can tag them in tweets
New Delhi, Oct 14: Twitter is working on a new feature that will allow users to control who can mention them in their tweets, not letting anyone to tag or mention your Twitter handle with their posts unless you want them to.
The feature, when it arrives, will make a fundamental shift in how people mention and tag others with their posts on the platform.
App researcher Jane Manchun Wong first spotted the test version of the feature, saying “Twitter is working on letting you control who can mention you on Twitter”.
Twitter privacy designer Dominic Camozzi confirmed that the feature is in the works but later deleted the tweet.
The feature will let you control who can mention you, like people you follow, everyone, or no one at all.
The feature will prevent Twitter users from bullying or harassment.
In August, the company launched Twitter Circle that allows people a flexibility to choose who can see and engage with their content on a Tweet-by-Tweet basis.
This makes it easier to have more intimate conversations and build closer connections with select followers.
Before you post on Twitter, you’ll now see an option to share your Tweet with either your circle or your full followers list. Circles can contain up to 150 people, and you can adjust who’s in and who’s out at any time.
“Don’t worry, no one will be notified of any changes you make to your circle,” said Twitter.
Himachal Pradesh to go to polls on November 12; counting on December 8
