  • Congress takes a dig at BJP, asking when it will appoint LoP in Karnataka

Congress takes a dig at BJP, asking when it will appoint LoP in Karnataka

Even as the Congress is expected to take a decision on chief minister in Karnataka in a day or two, AICC spokesperson Pawan Khera took a dig at the BJP wondering how many days will the party take to decide on leader of Opposition in the state after 11 of its ministers bit the dust in the recently-concluded polls.

Hitting out at the BJP, Khera pointed out that the saffron party took seven days to decide on the chief minister in Uttar Pradesh, nine days in Assam and in Maharashtra it took a month to set up a cabinet.

On being repeatedly asked as to who would be the next chief minister of Karnataka, the Congress leader reminded that the process was on and that a decision cannot be imposed from Delhi. Everyone’s view will have to be considered before deciding on the chief minister.

“We have to engage every stakeholder…. And the process is on…. The observers have gone and met the MLAs, they have given their reports. All these have gone to the Central leadership. In a day or two, you will know,” said the AICC spokesperson.

He, however, attacked the BJP for commenting on the delay in appointing a chief minister by the Congress in Karnataka. He pointed out that the role of the leader of the Opposition was no less than a chief minister and wondered why the BJP has so far failed to choose one after their disastrous performance in the sole southern state where they were in power.

“Why are they (the BJP) unable to appoint a Leader of Opposition in Karnataka, they can’t even find one. 11 of their ministers have lost. Who are they to comment,” Khera asked, adding, “How many days will you take to appoint a leader of Opposition in Karnataka?”

Khera also said that the Congress will again approach the Election Commission of India (ECI) over VVPAT and EVMs even though they won the elections in Karnataka.

  • Visva Bharati Univ tells Amartya Sen to vacate 13 decimals of land by May 6

Kolkata, Apr 20: Visva Bharati Univeristy in an eviction order has asked Nobel laureate Amartya Sen to vacate the 13 decimals of land which he has been allegedly occupying in an unauthorised manner by May 6 or within 15 days of the publication of the last order on April 19.
Contending as per government of India advisories and CAG reports the century old Central institution was in urgent need of getting control of encroachments and also submit report to the ministry, the notice said “Amartya Kumar Sen and all concerned persons are liable to be evicted from the said premises, if need be, by use of such force as may be necessary.”
“It is decided that 13 decimals of land having the dimension of 50 ft x 111 ft in the north-west corner of the scheduled premises is to be recovered from him,” the notice said.
“Thus he can lawfully occupy 1.25 acres of land only, as lesses (for the residual period of lease) in the scheduled premises. He does not have the authority to occupy 1.38 acres of land in the scheduled premises,” the notice issued by Joint Registrar Asish Mahato said.
A few days back the Central university had issued another notice to Sen, whose ancestral house ‘Pratichi’ in Santiniketan is inhabited by the Nobel laureate during his stay in Santiniketan, giving him time till April 19 to respond to the missive and vacate the “unauthorised” portion of land or face necessary action otherwise.
The varsity had maintained that Sen’s reply to earlier showcause was fallacious, factually incorrect and Visva Bharati was the rightful owner of all these lands which had been encroached upon in past years including the 13 decimal land occupied by Sen.
Sen has repeatedly trashed the charge saying while the 1.25 acres of land had been leased by Visva Bharati to his father for a certain period the contentious 13 decimals were bought by his father and he has all the necessary documents to prove that.

Kesri slams Pakistan for repeatedly infiltrating terrorists in J&K

Says swift action by security forces against terrorists prevented situation from taking ugly turn in Jammu region

Jammu: A press conference was organized today by Shiv Sena Hindustan, in which SSH J&K Chief Chief Pandit Rajesh Kesari said that Pakistan is repeatedly infiltrating terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir to create unrest here. Pakistan is continuously trying to disturb peace in Jammu and Kashmir by adopting various tactics for this including target killings and firing on unarmed people. Earlier these terrorists were limited to Kashmir but now they are spreading their base in Jammu region. He appreciated role of security forces and expressed confidence that security forces will never allow them to execute their nefarious designs. Kesri said the four terrorists who have been killed today have infiltrated from Pakistan to vitiate the peaceful atmosphere prevailing in Jammu region but alert security forces neutralized them. He urged the govt that instead of sending the dead bodies of the terrorists to Pakistan, they should be burnt here in the garbage heap so that no terrorist from there can dare to enter Jammu and Kashmir. Kesri further said that attacks on the members of minority communities and non-locals were carried out under a well-devised conspiracy to push them out of Kashmir so that 1990 like the situation is recreated but the minorities and non-locals have held their ground. They haven’t left Kashmir, nor have they got intimidated by the pressure exerted by the terrorists. The swift action by the security forces against the terrorists has prevented the situation from taking an ugly turn. Terrorists who were involved in the killings of innocents have either been eliminated or arrested. The security forces acting tough against the killers instilled confidence among the people to stay firm in their fight against terrorism and the terrorists, added Kesri. Personnel of the Jammu and Kashmir Police along with the central armed forces have rendered invaluable sacrifices to defeat the elements sponsored by Pakistan. The security forces have achieved a lot on different fronts and jawans are working hard to ensure that normalcy in Kashmir becomes a permanent feature, claimed Kesri.
