Srinagar, June 24 : Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, has been officially recognized as a ‘World Craft City’ by the World Crafts Council, an official spokesman announced.
This prestigious recognition is expected to significantly boost the handloom and handicraft sector, benefiting tourism and infrastructure development in the region. “This honour underscores the city’s rich heritage and the exceptional skills of its artisans, whose dedication and artistry have earned global acclaim,” the spokesman stated on Sunday evening.
J-K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha lauded the recognition as a testament to the hard work and exceptional talent of the city’s artisans, highlighting the cultural richness of Srinagar. “We are committed to supporting our artisans and ensuring that this accolade translates into tangible benefits for the community,” he said.
Sinha also acknowledged Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s steadfast support for Jammu and Kashmir’s handicraft and handloom sector. The recognition as a ‘World Craft City’ is anticipated to have a transformative impact on the sector, fostering growth, sustainability, and innovation.
