New Delhi, June 06: In a significant development, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal have confirmed their attendance at the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, reliable sources confirmed on Thursday.
Both Prime Minister Hasina and her Nepalese counterpart Dahal had earlier extended their greetings to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the remarkable performance of the NDA in the recently concluded 18th Lok Sabha elections.
PM Modi had a telephonic conversation with Dahal, also known as Prachanda, where he extended the invitation to the Nepal PM for the swearing-in ceremony. Confirming his attendance, Dahal is set to join the ceremony, with formal announcements expected soon, according to a senior official.
M Nazrul Islam, the speechwriter for Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina, informed ANI, “Prime Minister Hasina is scheduled to depart from Dhaka tomorrow to Delhi to participate in the oath-taking ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, after receiving an invitation from him.”
Sheikh Hasina’s visit comes after her recent victory in the national elections in Bangladesh. She emphasized the strong and longstanding relationship between Bangladesh and India, highlighting India as a “tested and loyal neighbor.”
The visit of both leaders underscores the robust diplomatic relations and cooperation between Bangladesh, Nepal, and India, reflecting mutual respect and collaboration, which have been key features of their partnerships.
Prime Minister Modi is expected to take the oath of office on June 8, following the BJP-led NDA’s narrow victory, securing 293 seats in the Lok Sabha elections. The main opposition, Congress, also made significant gains, winning 99 seats.
While there is no confirmation of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the ceremony, it is anticipated that the delegations accompanying the leaders will be minimal.
The swearing-in ceremony is anticipated to be a significant event, symbolizing the continued cooperation and friendship among the South Asian nations.
