CHANDIGARH, May 29: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi voiced concerns over the alleged threat posed by the BJP to the Indian Constitution during a poll rally in Dakha, Punjab, on Wednesday.
Addressing the gathering in support of Congress’ Ludhiana candidate Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, Gandhi emphasized the significance of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls in safeguarding the Constitution against potential threats.
Accusing the BJP of intending to scrap the Constitution if elected to power, Gandhi stressed the need to protect the fundamental principles enshrined in it, describing the Constitution as the voice of the poor.
In addition to addressing constitutional concerns, Gandhi also raised the issue of the growing drug problem in Punjab, calling for stringent measures to combat the menace.
During the rally, Gandhi outlined his party’s poll promises, including the Mahalakshmi scheme, farmer loan waivers, and a legal guarantee on minimum support price (MSP) for farmers, if the INDIA bloc secures victory in the upcoming elections.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the current crop insurance scheme, Gandhi vowed to introduce a farmer-friendly alternative, alleging that the existing scheme only benefits a handful of insurance companies.
Criticizing the BJP’s Agnipath scheme, Gandhi pledged to scrap it if the INDIA bloc assumes power, promising to discard policies that do not serve the interests of the people.
