Established in 2016 by the Office of Military Affairs within the Department for Peace Operations (DPO), the United Nations Military Gender Advocate of the Year Award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to integrating a gender perspective into peacekeeping activities. Candidates are nominated by Force Commanders and Heads of Mission from all peace operations, with the awardee selected based on their exemplary contributions.
India, a steadfast supporter of UN peacekeeping missions, currently ranks as the 11th largest contributor of women military peacekeepers to the United Nations, with 124 deployed personnel. India’s longstanding commitment to promoting peace and security underscores its vital role in advancing the principles of gender equality and women’s empowerment on the global stage.
