SRINAGAR, May 17: In Jammu and Kashmir, night temperatures saw a rise across most regions amidst forecasts of dry weather conditions on Friday. According to a meteorological department official, Srinagar experienced a low of 13.0°C, slightly down from the previous night’s 13.6°C, marking a 1.6°C increase above the seasonal norm for this period in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir.
Similarly, Qazigund observed a minimum temperature of 11.0°C compared to the previous night’s 10.6°C, registering an 0.8°C rise above normal. Pahalgam, renowned for its scenic beauty, recorded a low of 7.5°C, surpassing the previous night’s 7.0°C and exceeding the typical temperature by 1.6°C for this time of year.
Kokernag, situated in south Kashmir, noted a minimum temperature of 10.7°C, up from the previous night’s 10.1°C, marking a 0.7°C increase above the seasonal average. Conversely, Kupwara town recorded a low of 9.8°C, slightly cooler than the previous night’s 10.1°C, yet still 0.3°C below normal temperatures.
Gulmarg, famous for its skiing slopes, recorded a minimum temperature of 8.1°C, down from the previous night’s 8.5°C, but still 1.3°C above the typical temperature for this time of year in the north Kashmir district of Baramulla.
In Jammu, the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir, the temperature settled at 24.3°C, slightly below the previous night’s 24.6°C, with a marginal increase of 0.2°C above the seasonal average. Banihal, Batote, and Bhaderwah recorded lows of 13.8°C, 17.3°C, and 13.4°C respectively.
The meteorological official stated that dry weather is anticipated over the next 24 hours, though isolated thunderstorm activity cannot be entirely ruled out. From May 18-19, generally cloudy weather with light rain or thunder is expected at isolated to scattered locations during the afternoon. However, from May 20-25, dry weather conditions are forecasted, with no significant weather activity anticipated until May 25.
