Srinagar, May 15: The local meteorological department has forecasted no significant weather activity in Jammu and Kashmir until May 25, as night temperatures experienced a slight increase but remained below normal across most places in the region on Wednesday.
According to a meteorological department official, Srinagar recorded a low of 10.5°C, slightly higher than the previous night’s 9.5°C, yet still 0.1°C below the usual for this time of year in the summer capital of J&K.
Similarly, Qazigund saw a minimum temperature of 8.0°C compared to the previous night’s 7.0°C, indicating a deviation of 1.2°C below normal for the gateway town of Kashmir. Pahalgam recorded a low of 4.6°C, lower than the previous night’s 2.6°C, and below normal by 0.5°C for the renowned resort in south Kashmir.
Kokernag, situated in south Kashmir, registered a minimum temperature of 9.1°C compared to the previous night’s 6.6°C, remaining 0.2°C below normal. Kupwara town recorded a low of 7.3°C, below the previous night’s 6.5°C, with a deviation of 2.3°C below normal for the area.
In contrast, Gulmarg saw a minimum temperature of 8.4°C, higher than the previous night’s 3.8°C, marking an increase of 2.9°C above normal for the world-famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Jammu recorded a low of 21.0°C compared to the previous night’s 18.8°C, falling 2.5°C below normal for the winter capital of J&K. Other areas such as Banihal registered a low of 10.6°C, Batote at 14.3°C, and Bhaderwah at 9.8°C, as per the official.
Regarding the forecast, the official stated that mainly dry weather is anticipated until May 17. From May 18-19, generally cloudy weather with light rain/thunder is expected at isolated to scattered places in the afternoon for a brief period. From May 20-25, generally dry weather is expected. Overall, no significant weather activity is anticipated until May 25.
