Srinagar, May 3: Despite an increase in cloud cover, the night temperature continued to hover below normal in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday.
According to a meteorological department official in Srinagar, the city recorded a low of 7.8°C compared to 5.7°C on the previous night, remaining 1.9°C below the normal temperature for this time of year. Similarly, Qazigund registered a minimum temperature of 6.2°C, down from 3.6°C the previous night, with a deviation of 2.3°C below normal.
Pahalgam, a famous resort in south Kashmir, experienced a low of 1.7°C compared to 1.0°C on the previous night, indicating a deviation of 3.2°C below normal. Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded a minimum temperature of 5.9°C, which was 2.5°C below normal.
In Kupwara town, the temperature dipped to 4.8°C, reflecting a deviation of 3.6°C below normal. Gulmarg, the renowned skiing resort in north Kashmir, recorded a minimum temperature of 4.0°C, slightly below the normal by 0.3°C.
Meanwhile, Jammu recorded a low of 17.6°C compared to 15.7°C the previous night, marking a deviation of 5.0°C below normal. In Banihal, Batote, and Bhaderwah, the temperatures ranged between 6.1°C and 9.5°C.
As for the forecast, the official stated that partly to generally cloudy weather with light rain and thunder is expected at scattered places towards the evening until May 4. On May 5, generally dry weather with afternoon thundershower activity is likely at isolated places. From May 6-10, generally dry weather with afternoon thundershower activity is expected at few places across the region.
