NEW DELHI, May 1: Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, renowned for his expertise in communication and electronic warfare, officially assumed the role of Vice Chief of the Naval Staff on Wednesday. He previously served as the Chief of Personnel at the naval headquarters.
Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi, who recently took charge as the 26th Chief of the Naval Staff, previously held the position of Vice Chief of the force.
Upon assuming office, Vice Admiral Swaminathan paid tribute to the fallen heroes at the National War Memorial. Throughout his distinguished career, he commanded various vessels including missile vessels INS Vidyut and INS Vinash, missile corvette INS Kulish, guided missile destroyer INS Mysore, and aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya.
Commissioned into the Indian Navy on July 1, 1987, Vice Admiral Swaminathan is a specialist in communication and electronic warfare. He is an alumnus of esteemed institutions such as the National Defence Academy, Khadakvasla, and the US Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island.
Recognized with the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and Vishisht Seva Medal, Vice Admiral Swaminathan held numerous key operational, staff, and training appointments. Notably, he played a pivotal role in establishing the Indian Naval Safety team and served in various capacities including Chief Staff Officer (training) at headquarters, Southern Naval Command, and Flag Officer Commanding, Western Fleet.
Vice Admiral Swaminathan’s academic qualifications include degrees from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, Cochin University of Science and Technology, King’s College London, and Mumbai University. He holds an MPhil in Strategic Studies and a PhD in International Studies from Mumbai University.
