Jammu and Kashmir Hit by Rainfall, Meteorological Department Predicts Continued Showers Ahead

JAMMU, Apr 27: The skies over Jammu and Kashmir were drenched in rainfall, with the meteorological department forecasting further precipitation in the coming days.

A meteorological department official disclosed that in the last 24 hours until 8:30 am this morning, various regions witnessed varying degrees of rainfall. Srinagar recorded 4.5mm, Qazigund 10.2mm, Pahalgam 20.8mm, Kupwara 15.1mm, Kokernag 9.8mm, Gulmarg 8.6mm, Jammu 2.3mm, Banihal 2.3mm, Batote 22.8mm, Katra 4.6mm, and Bhadarwah 16.4mm.

The department has predicted light to moderate rain or light snow in higher reaches, accompanied by thunder, lightning, hailstorms, and gusty winds at a few places until April 29. From April 29-30, the weather is expected to be generally cloudy with scattered instances of light rain and thunder. Generally dry weather is anticipated from May 1-5.

Regarding temperatures, Srinagar recorded a minimum of 10.5°C, consistent with the previous night, and slightly above normal for this time of the year. Qazigund registered 8.4°C, Pahalgam 6.3°C, Kokernag 7.9°C, Kupwara 8.1°C, and Gulmarg 2.4°C. Jammu recorded a minimum of 19.3°C, while Banihal, Batote, and Bhaderwah recorded lows of 10.2°C, 9.7°C, and 9.8°C, respectively.

With the ongoing rainfall and forecasts of more to come, residents of Jammu and Kashmir are advised to stay prepared and cautious in the face of changing weather conditions.
