Srinagar, Apr 25: Jammu and Kashmir braces for upcoming precipitation as the night temperatures continue to remain below average across the region.
According to a meteorological department official, light to moderate rain in plains and snow over higher reaches is forecasted from April 26 onwards. Meanwhile, the night temperature has witnessed a decline in most areas, persisting below normal levels in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.
The official mentioned that over the next 24 hours, generally dry weather is expected with afternoon thundershowers, along with the possibility of hailstorm activity at isolated places in South Kashmir, Budgam, Poonch, Rajouri, and Banihal areas.
From April 26-28, generally cloudy weather with light to moderate rain and snow over higher reaches is anticipated, accompanied by thunder, lightning, hailstorms, and gusty winds at few places. Heavy rain is also likely over isolated areas, particularly on April 28. Subsequently, from April 29-30, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy with light rain and thunder at scattered places.
Moving into May 1-3, generally dry weather conditions are predicted across the region.
Regarding temperatures, Srinagar recorded a minimum of 8.2°C, which is 0.7°C below normal for this time of year. Similarly, Qazigund recorded 5.8°C, Pahalgam 2.8°C, Kokernag 6.7°C, Kupwara 6.7°C, and Gulmarg 2.7°C, all below their respective normal temperatures.
In Jammu, the minimum temperature was recorded at 19.2°C, 1.8°C below normal, while Banihal recorded 7.4°C, Batote 10.0°C, and Bhaderwah 6.6°C.
The upcoming weather patterns suggest a need for residents to prepare for potential precipitation while bracing for cooler nighttime temperatures in the days ahead.
