Kejriwal Appears in Delhi Court, Granted Bail in ED Summons Case

New Delhi : Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor, Arvind Kejriwal, attended the Delhi Rouse Avenue Court on Saturday concerning the Enforcement Directorate (ED) complaint filed against him regarding his non-compliance with the agency’s summons related to the Delhi liquor policy case.

This marked Kejriwal’s first physical appearance in the ED summons case, following his virtual appearance on February 17. Subsequently, the Rouse Avenue Court granted him bail, requiring him to furnish a bond of Rs 15,000 along with a surety of the same amount.

Advocate Ramesh Gupta, representing Kejriwal, informed ANI, “Both bonds were furnished, and Kejriwal was allowed to go. After that, we moved an application for the supply of copies under Sections 207 and 91 of the CrPC, for which the date is fixed for April 1.”

Earlier, on February 3, the ED lodged a complaint against Kejriwal for failing to comply with its summons after he skipped the fifth notice. In response to the ED’s complaint, the court directed Kejriwal to appear on February 17.

Appearing via video conferencing, Kejriwal sought exemption from personal appearance. The court adjourned the matter until March 16, instructing him to appear in person for the next hearing.

The ED has issued a total of eight summonses to Kejriwal, three of them following the agency’s complaint in the Delhi court. Kejriwal declined to attend, citing the matter’s pendency before the court.

Responding to the eighth summons, Kejriwal agreed to virtually appear before the probe agency after March 12. The central probe agency, facing allegations of partisanship, aims to question Kejriwal regarding a money laundering case linked to alleged irregularities in the now-defunct Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22.

Contrarily, AAP alleges that the ED plans to arrest the chief minister ahead of the Lok Sabha polls under the Modi government’s directives.

Recently, on Friday, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha was apprehended by the ED in connection with the excise policy case. The agency accused her of disbursing kickbacks to AAP leaders before formulating the excise policy.
