New Delhi, March 13th: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has given the green light to a proposal aimed at significantly expanding the National Cadet Corps (NCC) by adding three lakh new cadet vacancies. This move comes in response to the growing demand for NCC enrollment from educational institutions across the country.
Since its inception with just 20,000 cadets in 1948, the NCC is set to bolster its ranks to a sanctioned strength of 20 lakh cadets, solidifying its position as the largest uniformed youth organization globally. With NCC now offered as an elective subject under the National Education Policy 2020, this expansion aligns with the aspirations of youth eager to play pivotal roles as future leaders.
The expansion initiative includes the establishment of four new Group Headquarters and the addition of two new NCC units. Furthermore, it proposes the employment of ex-servicemen as NCC instructors, tapping into their expertise and vast experience to ensure quality training for cadets while also creating employment opportunities for veterans.
This expansion not only aims to meet the increasing demand for NCC enrollment but also seeks to achieve a more balanced distribution of vacancies across all States and Union Territories, thus alleviating the waiting list for institutions aspiring to join the NCC.
By nurturing discipline, leadership, and service among its cadets, the NCC remains committed to shaping future leaders who will contribute meaningfully to nation-building efforts. This initiative aims to cultivate a new generation of motivated, disciplined, and patriotic youth, furthering the goal of a developed India.
