Srinagar Records Marginal Rise in Night Temperature, Registers Minus 1.5°C

Srinagar, March 6: Despite cloud cover, the night temperature in the Kashmir Valley witnessed a slight rise but remained below freezing on Wednesday.

According to a meteorological department official, Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of minus 1.5°C, a slight increase from the previous night’s minus 2.0°C. However, it remained 3.7°C below normal for this time of year in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir.

Qazigund, the gateway town of Kashmir, recorded a minimum temperature of minus 0.6°C, compared to minus 1.2°C the previous night, marking a deviation of 1.5°C below normal.

Pahalgam, the renowned resort in south Kashmir, registered a low of minus 2.9°C, down from minus 4.0°C the previous night, which was 0.6°C below the normal temperature.

Kokernag, also situated in south Kashmir, recorded a minimum temperature of minus 1.3°C, a slight decrease from the previous night’s minus 1.7°C, with a deviation of 2.2°C below normal.

In Kupwara town, the minimum temperature was recorded at minus 1.5°C, compared to minus 1.7°C the previous night, marking a deviation of 2.5°C below normal.

Gulmarg, the world-famous skiing resort in north Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 6.5°C, showing a slight increase from the previous night’s minus 9.5°C, with a deviation of 2.0°C below normal.

Meanwhile, Jammu recorded a minimum temperature of 7.6°C, which was above normal by 4.7°C for the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir.

Other areas recorded minimum temperatures as follows: Banihal at 1.6°C, Batote at 4.5°C, and Bhaderwah at 1.6°C.

The weather forecast suggests mainly dry weather in Jammu and Kashmir until March 10, with the possibility of light rain or snow at scattered places during the night of March 6-7.
