New Delhi, March 4: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has transferred the investigation of the blast at Bengaluru’s The Rameshwaram Cafe to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), which has promptly re-registered the case and initiated a thorough inquiry.
This decision came after an NIA team visited the blast site last week to assess the situation and gather initial evidence. The explosion occurred on March 1 during the bustling lunch hour at the cafe located in Bengaluru’s Whitefield area, leaving several individuals injured.
The blast, categorized as low-intensity, rattled The Rameshwaram Cafe in the Brookfield locality of Bengaluru. Initial reports from the Bengaluru Police revealed that over half a dozen people sustained injuries in the incident.
Previously, the Bengaluru Police had filed a case under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Explosives Substances Act in connection with the explosion at the cafe. Investigations indicated that the blast, occurring at 1 pm, involved an improvised explosive device (IED) with a timer, as captured by CCTV footage showing a suspect leaving a bag inside the cafe premises.
Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara assured swift action, stating, “We are continuing our investigation. 8 teams have been formed and all are working in different directions and looking at different aspects. We have collected several CCTV footages. We are examining every angle including if there is any jealousy factor.”
Echoing the sentiment, Deputy CM DK Shivakumar urged citizens not to panic, emphasizing that the blast was of low intensity and investigations were underway. “A youth came and kept a small bag which exploded after an hour. About 10 people received injuries. 7-8 teams formed to probe the incident. We are looking at all angles. I ask every resident of Bengaluru to not worry,” Shivakumar reassured.
As the NIA takes over the probe, heightened efforts are expected to unravel the circumstances surrounding the blast and bring the perpetrators to justice.
