Srinagar, Feb 19: Dismissing reports circulating in the media, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) clarified on Monday that it is firmly committed to the unity of the INDIA bloc and has no intention of severing ties. The party addressed the speculations through a post on its official handle, stating, “Disregard the fabricated news about @jkpdp considering breaking ties with the INDIA alliance. We stand firm in our commitment to unity and our alliance. Don’t be misled by this malicious misinformation!”
The response from PDP came in the wake of media reports suggesting that the party was contemplating leaving the INDIA bloc and planning to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections independently. This situation mirrors a recent controversy involving the National Conference, where Chief Farooq Abdullah initially mentioned the party’s intention to contest the polls independently. However, the party’s vice-president, Omar Abdullah, quickly convened a press conference to clarify that the National Conference remained dedicated to the INDIA bloc, although seat-sharing in Kashmir was ruled out.
Omar Abdullah did express openness to arrangement discussions for the two seats in the Jammu region and one in Ladakh currently held by the BJP. The conflicting statements and subsequent clarifications from political leaders underline the fluid dynamics within the political landscape as the elections draw nearer.
