New Delhi, December 14: The government assured on Thursday that it has initiated a high-level inquiry into the security breach incident at the Lok Sabha and urged the opposition not to politicize the matter. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi, in a statement during the House session at 2 PM, emphasized the gravity of the incident, highlighting the safety and security concerns for MPs.
Joshi mentioned that Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla swiftly convened a meeting with floor leaders to discuss and consider suggestions for enhancing Parliament security. Some of the proposed measures from MPs have already been put into effect, and the Speaker has expressed the intention to implement further steps to bolster security.
Stressing the need for unity on the matter, Joshi stated, “This matter concerns all of us, and we have to speak in one voice.” He acknowledged previous security breaches in Parliament, including incidents of slogan shouting, paper throwing, and individuals jumping from the gallery.
The minister informed the House that the Speaker has written a letter to the Home Secretary, initiating a high-level inquiry, which is already underway. Joshi cautioned against politicizing the issue, emphasizing its national significance.
On Wednesday, two individuals breached security in the Lok Sabha chamber, shouting slogans and releasing colored smoke, causing panic and chaos. Following the breach, Speaker Birla ordered a high-level inquiry, and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) also initiated a probe in response to the Lok Sabha Secretariat’s request.
The inquiry committee, led by Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Director General Anish Dayal Singh, along with members from various security agencies and experts, will investigate the security lapse in Parliament and recommend necessary actions, as stated by an MHA spokesperson.
