Srinagar, December 8: Jammu and Kashmir continue to grapple with severe cold as Srinagar experienced its coldest night of the season at minus 2.6°C on Thursday. According to a meteorological department official, a further decline of 1-2°C is anticipated over the next three days before a slight respite from the freezing conditions.
Until December 10, predominantly dry weather is expected across J&K. On December 11, the forecast indicates generally cloudy conditions. From December 12-15, the weather is likely to be generally cloudy with light rain/snow at isolated higher reaches.
The official noted, “A fall in minimum temperature by 1-2°C is expected during the next 3 days over all the stations, and thereafter, slight improvement till December 15.”
In terms of minimum temperatures, Srinagar recorded a low of minus 2.6°C, marking the coldest night so far this season, which is 2.0°C below the previous night and 2.0°C below the normal for this time of the year in Srinagar.
Qazigund registered a minimum of minus 2.2°C, just below the previous night’s minus 2.0°C, with the temperature being 1.4°C below normal for the gateway town of Kashmir.
Pahalgam witnessed a low of minus 4.9°C, slightly warmer than the previous night’s minus 5.1°C, and 1.7°C below normal for the famous resort in south Kashmir.
Kokernag, in south Kashmir, reported a minimum of minus 1.4°C, down from the previous night’s minus 0.5°C, with the temperature below normal by 0.7°C.
Kupwara town in north Kashmir recorded a low of minus 3.1°C, compared to the previous night’s minus 2.7°C, with the temperature being 1.3°C below normal.
Gulmarg, the renowned skiing resort in north Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 2.5°C, slightly above the previous night’s minus 2.6°C, and 1.2°C above normal.
Jammu registered a minimum of 9.6°C, slightly below the previous night’s 9.9°C, and 0.4°C below normal for the winter capital of J&K.
