New Delhi, Nov 30 : The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has announced a signature campaign, “Mai Bhi Kejriwal,” running from December 1 to 20, aimed at gauging public sentiment on whether Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal should step down if arrested under what the party claims is a “conspiracy by the BJP.” Gopal Rai, the party’s city convener, made the announcement during a press conference on Thursday, accompanied by party MP Raghav Chadha.
Rai alleged that the BJP has orchestrated a plot to have Kejriwal arrested under the guise of a “fake” liquor scam case, with the intent of undermining the Aam Aadmi Party. AAP volunteers will distribute pamphlets seeking public opinions at all 2,600 polling stations across the city under the “Mai Bhi Kejriwal” campaign starting Friday.
Rai revealed that Kejriwal had consulted with AAP MLAs and councillors on the matter, and there was a consensus that he should not resign but continue to govern from jail if necessary. From December 21 to December 24, the AAP plans to conduct ‘Jan Samvad’ in every ward of the city to discuss the alleged liquor scam and the BJP’s purported conspiracy to have Kejriwal arrested, seeking public opinions on whether he should resign as Delhi chief minister if arrested.
Earlier this month, the Enforcement Directorate had summoned Kejriwal for questioning in connection with a money laundering case linked to an alleged excise policy scam. Kejriwal, claiming the notice was “illegal and politically motivated,” skipped appearing before the ED and demanded its withdrawal.
