Srinagar, Nov 25: Cold wave conditions returned on Saturday as the minimum temperatures plummeted to freezing points across most places, following a brief improvement in the weather in the Kashmir valley. After experiencing a slight respite on Friday, temperatures, including in Srinagar, dipped below freezing, signaling the onset of cold wave conditions. The Meteorological Centre in Srinagar predicts generally cloudy and dry weather for the next 24 hours, with continued cloudiness expected on November 27 and 28. The possibility of light rain or snow at isolated higher reaches is forecasted for November 29-30, followed by partially to generally cloudy weather from December 1 to 5. Shallow to moderate fog is likely to persist in many places of the Kashmir Division until November 28. Srinagar recorded a low of -1.0°C on Saturday, 1.1°C below the seasonal norm for the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir. Pahalgam, the coldest spot in the valley, experienced a low of -3.4°C, 1.0°C below normal. Qazigund on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway recorded a minimum of -0.8°C, while Kokerng reached 1.5°C on Saturday. Kupwara settled at -0.5°C, considered normal for the north Kashmir district. Gulmarg in north Kashmir reported a low of -1.0°C on Saturday, 1.1°C above normal for the renowned ski resort in Kashmir, as per the Meteorological office.
